She has one of the coolest voices. One thing I've noticed throughout the years is that she pronounces EVERY SINGLE SYLLABLE of every word. There's no slurring, no blending of words, etc. and it makes her so naturally articulate, crystal clear, and easy to listen to.
Angela Bassett does the same thing! Angela Bassett actually gets criticized for "over enunciation". I believe they studied drama at the same school? Yale school of drama?
yes; she is all those things. yet many men would treat her as chattel, to be dismissed, mocked, abused, anyway; that is the evil of misogyny, and of societies based on misogyny.
Sigourney Weaver was 74 years old just a few days ago. She’s 36 years old in this interview, more than half her lifetime ago and yet the vid, her gorgeous fresh faced makeup, the outfit looks timeless and as fresh as the day I saw it in the mid ‘80s. She looked so stunning here, Sean Young (Bladerunner) was being seriously challenged for the title of most gorgeous Sci-fi actress as far as my raging hormones were concerned 😂 it’s bizarre how we perceive time as we get older, so near yet so far gone.
The character Ellen Ripley which Sigourney Weaver played will stay in the history of movie-making as one of the most prominent iconic role ever performed by an American actress. Sigourney Weaver have achieved something greater than her life in the ALIEN & ALIENS. I love this woman so much.
Matlin was really good, but Weaver nailed Aliens. I mean the role, haha. She was even better in the sequel than in the first movie. It was a layered, emotional performance and badass at the same time. And she should have won for Working Girl as well.
Simply one of the most underrated screen beauties in Hollywood history, not just in the 1980s when she was an all conquering screen actor. And the legendary film critic Bobbie Wygant is still alive and an incredible 96 years old and turning 97 this November 22nd (2023). Wish her a Happy Birthday. Two legends from my 1980s childhood.
Look for the word Class in the dictionary and you'll see her photo. What a classy, gorgeous, intelligent, elegant, well spoke lady. Not to mention a great actress.
Aliens is one of the greatest films ever made as far as I'm concerned. From a writer's standpoint, the character/ world building in the first half hour is almost completely without peer. To inform the viewer on the personalities of that many characters in such a short time is REALLY hard to pull off.
Yes, the 2nd film is the best. I also really like 3, although the very ending never really felt right. It’s very stark and brutal, and an interesting contrast to the superior 2nd film.
I saw Alien at a North Miami beach theater when it first came out. I had no knowledge of the movie before viewing it for the first time. The audience stood and applauded and cheered at the end. Never experienced such a response before. One movie and she became a major star.
What a wonderful little interview! It's always so shocking how thoroughly Sigourney is NOT Ripley when she is herself, but her insights into the character are legendary and it just makes you appreciate all the more what a fantastic actor she is.
She reminds me of Jamie Lee Curtis. They both have deep voices for a woman, and they both have elongated faces. Plus, they both belong to successful horror franchises. This is a really good interview.
Still stunning strong Sigourney Weaver all these years later. Thank you for the blast from the past. Intelligence/grace/magnetic beauty in a raidiant yellow dress. Stole my heart/first crush in Alien and again in Aliens 86(was 17). Let's Rock!!!!! man.....!!!!
My favorite actress by far. I love her in all the Alien movies, Galaxy Quest, Ghostbusters, Gorillas in the Mist, as well as her numerous smaller roles in movies like Avatar, Cabin in the Woods, and Paul.
I didn't realize she looked very beautiful indeed. I always remember her look in Aliens and she basically didn't wear makeup in that movie. Without the makeup, she looked raw and convincing as a heroine.
Of course you have. We don't just see beauty in her. She's 1 of those women with character, class and charisma. A unique rarity in Hollywood and in the world in general. As an actress, simply magistral.
According to the talentless franchise wrecker Kathleen Kennedy (LucasFilm) there haven't been any strong kick ass female lead characters in Blockbuster movies.Something she is proud of correcting? Kennedy needs to wind her leather neck in an go and watch the Alien films, Terminator 1and 2.Halloween.Even way back to Doris Day in Calamity Jane to name a few.Nobody even questioned the plausibility of a female lead in an action movie back then because it felt natural and not forced like modern efforts that try to ram an agenda down people's throats in a clumsy manner.SW is pure class.
A good insight in to why Ripley was so very cool because Sigourney depicted her not only as unwilling but having to dig very, very deep to do what she did and even though I was a boy who loved Arnie and Sly, she helped me relate to the seeming impossibility of fighting such incredible horror. Ripley was a very immersive character. Super-immersive for an action hero.
@@shaz2761 35 when she did Aliens, wasn't she? action isn't easy even for men at that age. also in the interview she says she doesn't like to do violence in movies. I definitely agree she should have done more SF tho', even if she wasn't kicking @$$. She kicks @$$ just by being herself on screen.
@@zimriel that's good. Own up to your ignorance, and honestly make an apology. That makes her a better person, and I'm sure a lot of folks appreciated the gesture. Too many times, these celebrities don't take accountability for what bs they say
She was the perfect choice to play the first female badass I'd ever seen on film. A mix of beautiful feminity mixed with an underlying masculine, authoritative energy that commanded respect when she spoke. Still couldn't believe the studio did not want to pay her 1 million dollars for Aliens considering how much they knew they would make off this sequel simply off the back of the original which did HUGE business but that was the 80's. People like to wax lyrical on how great the 80's was but the reality for many was that it was not quite as amazing as people say, particularly if you were a woman or a minority
@@Celisar1 I meant more in the voice. It's harder for women to sound authorative as their voice tends to be on the higher side of the octave scale and it's harder to command respect Famously Margaret Thatcher learned to speak more slowly and at a lower octave. I find it funnier when someone loves to label someone as prejudiced immediately without thinking it through. It's a trait that seems very prevalent today in today's "trial by social media" society
@Celisar1 Given than for millenia of history males took the most authoritative decisions, it's not "sexist", it's just real. "But women were suppressed all that time!", you say? Well, you're making my point then. It's those with authority who get to supress, and it's the less authoritative that are suppressed.
I think the point here is that the ACTORS were in danger from the guns, even fake guns. Cameron knew it and ran a tight set. Look at "The Crow" to see what happens when gun safety is not respected on-set. Cameron ensured that mess didn't happen on "Aliens". PS. I hope Alec Baldwin lives a long and unhappy life in prison.
Cool, besides a cool footage of a great actor, also a bit of an inside look into the workings of TV. You see how they film the interviewer's pickups at the end? And she repeats the questions as she said them during the interview, with little mannerisms and all.
Shannon Suo By the way she has a very strong pungent feet smell(i smelled them in the past lol) besides her dominating personality, such an adorable combination for any woman, iam one of her cousins i know what iam talking about ;))
