Man, I ADORED Alisa!! God, the controls, the aesthetic, the music, the voice acting, the dresses!!! they were all fantastic! i might be a bit biased because i love old survival horror games like these, but like cmon man this is just so good!! Mother made such an impression on me the first time I saw her, as I was heading over to the save place in the Fun House, and the hallway to it has the fixed camera on you and the door, so when i didn’t notice the utter lack of music, i ended up just running straight into her arms and being lifted away. I got so worried about her killing me again, i didn’t head over there at all😭 only figured out in my second play through that her appearance is completely randomized whenever you enter a room 😢 this game really should’ve been even more popular than it is right now, the story is just so charming and SO ambiguous man you don’t learn shit! and the stuff you do learn leads to 10 more questions 😭 11/10 game imo, you should really invest in the officer sword since you can get it early on in the Dollhouse and learn how to effectively kite your enemies, trust me, learning this is CRUCIAL and a very easy way to get toothwheels without wasting ammo. I was able to take out some of the late game enemies, like the ones in the garden, using the officer sword alone. For a little tutorial, the best way to utilize this is to bait an enemy into making an attack by going near them while running. once they try to strike and miss, preferably, run around them and strike them in the back. you’ve got about 2-3 strikes before you have to repeat the process all over. works on all of the enemies, with small variety to account for the differences. also also, if you’re aiming for the achievement “Cat Fight” you MUST use the officers sword for this one. I found out the hard way that you do not get the achievement if you use Flora’s sword and shield 💀 again, super cool game! i love it so much!!!!🥰🥰🥰
Heya! Jean voice actor here (the toothpick gentleman). Loved your review, you get the game and what it's striving to convey 😁 stay tuned for an Alisa DLC soon...
I'm sensing the DLC will be mid Spring. You chaps really made an addicting game; I discovered it and bought it all in one day, today, and I've got a lot of the layout memorised already. Great enemy variety, puzzles, the voices fit the tone perfectly! Everything feels right. Very good buy! 👍
The movie this is supposedly inspired by is on youtube btw. Alice 1988. Not sure if that is the right one but it is a Czechoslovakia film based on Alice in Wonderland with Clockwork Renditions of characters. Edit: Just watched the film. Simultaneously fascinating and made me feel like I was in a odd place reminiscent of hell but not quite hell. Very Surreal Film.10/10.
I feel like pointing out that since it's the czech rendition the emphasis in Alisa should be on the "i" A-lee-sa But glad to see this getting coverage nonetheless, it's a pretty neat game
2:29 "Who is pursuing someone who stole some very special "brew-prints". in the name of her nations emperor." I've been high, but not special brew-prints high.🤣
Alisa is an easy indie to go for proving Survival Horror are still objectively good to Triple As; as well as all the other that are worth a buy too. Signalis, Them and Us, Tormented Souls and many others. Fans of that genre are well served.
The sniper in ending B had a toothpick in his mouth and you didn't show her partner but was it the same guy? You said he faked choking on a toothpick at the start of the game.
I loved this game! I actually got pretty good with the saber and manage to clean out most rooms with it. Though I do cheat with bosses and bring some real firepower!
I just had been going through some license exams with a lot of studies and what helped me was a timed lock screen app , you cant use the phone except camera and calls and honestly it was a very focused period.
Halloween, maybe the weekend after since I don't wanna crowd out the last weekend of October but it's definitely coming. I spent way too much on capture software to not do it.
Don't know if this is the right place to ask you this, but I don't know where else I can contact you, as I don't have twitter. I became part of your discord server yesterday, to talk to people, share recipes, shitpost, and to have fun overall. Suddenly, I can not access the server anymore and think I got banned. If so, I'm not asking to be reinstated or anything, as I'm sure I was banned for a reason, but I would like to know the reason as to why I was banned, as other members didn't seem to dislike me or anything and I don't believe I have explicitly broken any rules to my knowledge. I was Ganjaman by the way, if that helps.
THE JAN ŠVANKMAJER "Něco z Alenky" ADAPTATION OF ALICE IN WONDERLAND? SERIOUSLY? God I love when shit like that is used as inspiration, like that movie opens with "You will see a movie. For children. Maybe." And that really shows the Czech spirit, like the movie looks horrific but it isn't a horror movie to the average Czech, just a fucked up fairytale. And while mechanically Alisa does play like a survival horror game, from what you're showing and from the story it just feels like a Fairytale for me as a Czech woman.
This video IS NOT in my notifications even though I am subscribed with the bell activated, just so you know. I think youtube hates you. Like, more than other creators.
Game prices have kept up with inflation. you could buy 70 games at MSRP in 2000 with your average gross monthly income. Games were 50$. Now you can buy 70 games at 90$ MSRP with the average monthly income. But it is incredibly easy to make games
Solving puzzles. Experience bodyhorror via handpuppet. Murdering some clowns. This game really has everything you need. The recent minor theme in games of focusing on uncanny puppets and marionettes is not so totally unwelcome if we see more quality artstyles like this or Lies of P
I think the game implies that the Dollmaster was one of the original patients from the Saint Johannes Institute the Manor of Tides was built on. There's a note in the red room that describes hearing something much bigger than a rat crawling behind the walls, and it mentions all the patients having touched the stone, that being the Finger of God, but also stating that whoever wrote the note thinks all the patients died. We know the Dollmaster is in the walls because of course that's how we interract with Pol. So it seems after the Manor of Tides was built, he stowed away, and gained power and control over the dolls the Doctor Edmiston built, possibly also being found and further experimented in by Edmiston.
If it is the game I think it is and it involves a lot of scares and lack of food, then I am so glad to see you cover those games, I liked them before they blew up in popularity out of morbid curiosity and became enamored with how many small details and exploits the games have. I am excited and hope you enjoyed all the little details as much as many players who managed to stomach through it did!
Finally, a PS1-style game that includes uncanny valley FMV cutscenes! I understand that not everyone can do that, but I appreciate it’s inclusion here. I would love to see a full game that has the PS1/2 FMV style throughout someday.
The dollhouse setting reminds me of that episode of Are You Afraid Of The Dark? Where the girl's friend starts turning into a doll as time passes with her trapped in the dollhouse. I don't think the creator took inspiration from that, but the setting and theming is cool still.
Considering you have a later costume at the start, does this game do the Metroid Prime thing where it lets you sample the upgrades before losing them all?
This game is great, I 100%'d it and it was worth it. For the price it goes by, it gave me around 27-30 hours of playtime to complete it, so it's a great deal. If you love 5th gen survival horrors, you will absolutely love Alisa, the game even constantly homages games from that gen.
Great vid...even though I have all notifications active, all your recent vids(and only yours) are not showing up in my notifications..I only found this video by checking on your channel. Weird.
