Alison Roman never ceases to amaze me. She is showing novices and professionals alike this nuanced simplicity in her recipes that invite anyone to try new methods of cooking, or even completely new foods in general. All of her recipes I try turn out perfect on the first try, and I swear she's a goddess in the kitchen. I don't know how she does it every time, but I want her to keep doing her thing, forever.

“... To look forward to” is so true - years ago, while convalescing during a long recovery from a big surgery, I thought willfully about the different meals I was going to have after returning to health, and eventually I did, although it took 2-3 years. W/ the situation today, some people will not make it to have certain meals again; nonetheless, it is necessary for the will to survive.... So BRAVA !!!

Just spray them down with easy off and let it sit for ten minutes then attack it with a no scratch dobie pad scour pad back and forth short overlapping scrubbing motion baking soda also work s and finish with a good dish washing liquid and keep rinsing it in hot hot water

Yeah, nah. Mine get a wipe off unless there’s stuff burned on, in which case they get soaked and a quick scrub.......but no trying to keep them spotless. They’re PANS ffs........for using, not looking at.

chopped liver is a quintessential passover recipe and i strongly urge any non-believers to try it at least once. it has so many carmelized onions or shallots that get so sweet, so jammy, and the fattiness of the liver.. like truly SO delicious and creamy.

I want to thank you for your recipes. The matzo ball soup was absolutely the BEST one I've ever made. I never added chives to the matzo meal and that made all the difference. Next year when the party is ON I'm going to really go all out on all of your recipes. I made the parsley salad...OMG...game changer for those of us that love parsley. So thanks!!!

The onion thing was on another channel recently, and a scientist mentioned that chilling/freezing the shallot or onion keeps the sulpher/chemical from aeresolizing and becoming gasseous as easily. so...chill your onions/shallots and it will lower the amount of tears.

I found that running it under cold water after at least cutting it in half also slows the aerosol. (If i have to dice the onion or shallot, then i cut into strips first and then run under water while keeping the half intact in one hand.)

Best way to prevent the onion getting to you is by rubbing a lemon on the blade before you cut it. I have no idea why but it’s works every time for me.

Just put a wet paper towel next to your cutting board when chopping onions. The fumes are looking for the closest water source. If there's something closer than your eyes, it won't bother you at all. Love your videos!

Hi Alison, I’ve made your Matzoh Ball Soup 3x and it’s out of this world! I make it just as you teach in your video. No big softballs for me, only golf balls! (I’ve never golfed either!) I’m a 56 year old Catholic guy and was never really exposed to MBS. Nor the true customs, meanings and traditions of any of the Jewish holidays. That is until, I met and fell in love with my girls. I was adopted by two little old Jewish ladies named Elsa and Helen. They were neighbors that lived across from each other in a typical SoFla cul-de-sac retirement community. They were both widows and tough cookies. They had very little to no close family living around them here in SoFla. So without trying, I kinda fell into that roll of being their advocate or adopted grandson as Elsa would refer to me. I’m a sucker when it comes to helping the older ladies. I’m disabled due to a injured neck, back and coccyx. My wife always knew if I wasn’t home I was somehow involved with my other ladies. She was very understanding. Over the years I knew more about them and their lives than their own children and families. They were the grandmothers I never had. It all started out innocently by helping to carry their groceries from their car into their house. That progressed somehow through the years to being by their bedside holding their hands as they slipped away. I learned so much from these wise firecrackers. They were both 96 when they passed. My Elsala in 2012 and dear Helen in 2019. I miss them both terribly. After Elsa passed, Helen seemed to step right into Elsa’s place in my life. In total I think I shared about 7 years with Elsa and then another 7 years with Helen. Those 14 years in many ways were therapeutic to me dealing with my own recent disabilities. I wish I had come across you and your videos when they were alive. Elsa was fascinated by the internet, my phone and Facebook. She liked to snoop, just like me! I would have loved to have made your wonderful MBS and latkes for them. They would have been over the moon that their gentile “grandson” was making their prized dish! I could go on and on writing my adventures with them and maybe one day I will. Alison, Elsa prepared a breakfast dish made with eggs, onions and chopped up lox. I think that was it? She’d always make sure she bought fresh croissant from the French Bakery as an accompaniment. She said that’s the way “mama” taught her. She’d make mine without the lox because she knew they’re not my favorite. Do you have a version of this recipe? Does it have a special name? As for Helen, her favorite breakfast was matzo brei. Do you have a recipe for this? I’d love to watch you make these two dishes. I wish I could surprise my ladies with them. Thank you Alison for all the great content then and now. So much to comment on, but I love making matzo ball soup and getting some tips on doing things a bit differently (alot differently) gives me a fun recipe to look forward to among all the other dishes. this video has a crazy amount of depth and layers. Alot to dig in to for people whenever they pull it back up to make that dish that caught their eye. Only wish I had everything on hand to make something here right now. Ah well.

Alison I love ya! I schlept to three publix markets near me here in SoFla and finally found my rendered chicken fat. Lordie lordie I miss NY!!!! Made my matzo balls and they were a hit! Thank you. My family and I truly enjoyed them. I’m thinking I want to make another batch because they were eaten so fast. Yummy yummy! I added some of the pulled chicken that I poached to make the chicken stock. It was delish! My next adventure will be to make those lovely short ribs and the potato koogle. Wish me luck! Thanks for making this wonderful instalment. I throughly enjoyed it and it’s a keeper in my library. All the best to you. Happy Belated Passover! .....John

Just discovered this channel and this video as it is Passover right now and I was looking for some interesting new ideas. I am so impressed by how enjoyable it is to watch Alison cook and explain all; also going shopping with her is fun. I am most inspired by and admire her self-confidence. Subscribing!

When I was 6 I desperately wanted to convert to Judaism even though my entire family is full of Christians, both devout and non-practicing, and my mother (relatively open-minded and non-practicing) said it was insane. I can see how crazy that sounded.... but I still currently want to convert to Judaism.
