The will was there, but the speed & power wasn't, & Alistair was sorta respectul, against one of his icons from a decade, almost 2 decades before. Go out against one of the best I suppose. Peter voor altijd een held.
I remember seeing this when it happened and it was quite painful to watch because Peter is such a legend of the sport. Though he fought quite well, Alistair was in his prime, just too fresh and strong (and very much on his special ‘horse meat’ diet no doubt). Still, Peter is definitely one of the all time greats of heavyweight kickboxing and Muay Thai.
Great fight, very steady and technical. It's amazing to see Peter lasting all three rounds against the Reem, who was scary at that time. Huge respect to both fighters.
And that's after Aerts fought a war with Semmy Schilt. Overeem had a much much easier path to the finals that night and took little to no damage. Aerts prob would've pieced him up if they faced each other in the first fight of the night.
@@NewEnglandOutdoorsman I think that overeem was fighting safe and being too respectful. I dont think Aerts would have fared any better in an earlier stage of the tourney
@@NewEnglandOutdoorsman Get you facts straight. This was final 16 elimination round (quarter final). All the fighters participating had one fight this evening so they where both fresh. The final tournament was in december.
@@mfss123 Yeah no shit. You’re a little late to this convo buddy. I realized that after posting almost a year ago already. I thought it was the 2010 fight against Alistair when Aerts had already fought Semmy Schilt and Mighty Mo that same night before facing Overeem.
@@noidontthinksolol no it’s not old ,but when you been fighting that long . You almost have to loose some of the fire or desire’s that sparked the animal instinct ,to won’t to destroy someone! This guy started fighting when he was still a pre teen That’s over twenty years before this match ! Reflexes ,will, desires, life’s Challenges has got to weigh on a fighter . It’s not like just getting started and the fire and need to prove something! Just saying
@@noidontthinksolol Yea You probably right ,I’m not a fighter just a couch potato observer . I shouldn’t even comment ,on a sport I know little about ! But I can’t help myself 😂 The analysis of my observation, works it’s way from my mind ,to my fingers every time ! I do love watching the sport since I retired e few years ago . You tube is great for an idol mind .👏👏👏👏👏
Aerts prob still would've beat him if he had faced him first that night nevermind being in his prime. Aerts had fought a war with Semmy Schilt in the match before this one on that same night.
@@NewEnglandOutdoorsman This was in 2009, not 2010. So before of this he hasn t fought in a month an a half... Maybe you should pay more atention before you write something?
Easier to see in the later rounds. Reem checked a few openings he could of let rip on, especially once Peter slowed his output. Twice he had him up against the ropes and passed on a possible violent knockdown.
When the announcer asked if the second round was a draw I thought, “that’s a terrible joke, the reems been manhandling the poor guy the whole fight don’t make fun of him ”. Then I realized he wasn’t joking lol
I mean the most success he had was post usada honestly. People forget who he beat on his title run to stipe miocic. Frank mir, roy nelson, arlovski, stefan struve, junior dos santos, then he lost to stipe, then beat mark hunt, fabricio werdum. Peak of his ufc career was post usada despite the difference in physique
Commentary says he earned this win! It should have been Peters! I’d like to see this same fight after the juice ran dry and there was about 80pounds of muscle gone .
@@19.0guyswithgolfputters3 seriously, this is K-1, not UFC. Everyone's juicing. Overeem just happened to be taking more or had the genes to respond to the roids even better.
@@93Beefcake The 97-99 and 05-07 version of Aerts would beat that version of Alistair 7 out of 10 times. The 90's version was super mobile, fast, and agile, while the 05-07 version was strong and durable as an ox, with insane power in its kicks and punches. After 2008 and that knee injury he had vs Schilt in 2007 K-1 final, he kinda lost a step and in 2009 he started loosing weight to get more ripped, but vs a fighter like Alistair you either need to match his weight and strength or be light on your feet and outpace him i.e. like Saki in the 2010 WGP semi final, except that Saki had a broken arm going into that fight.
Due leoni di questa disciplina , il vecchio e il nuovo , chi vincera' ? Chiaramente il nuovo , avendo piu' energie . Anche se Aerts si e' difeso molto bene .
