I didn't know about the Gray Fox(Ninja) one and in my first playthrough i didn't pay attention to the ketchup part. I was like “wtf do i do with this?" So i just hid under the bed and thank god Johnny (the sh'tting soldier) was an idiot

*Alternate timeline* Snake: *hides under the bed* "Now he will panic and open the cell door, then I will jump him." Johnny: "He's gone! I'd better go tell Ocelot!" *Runs out of the torture room* Snake: "Well shit."

I remember figuring the ketchup one out for my uncles while watching them play when I was like 8 and feeling so proud of myself. They couldnt believe it worked.

I actually had a glitched copy where once I got to this portion, the guard frozen, never moved, ketchup wasn't there, and the ninja never shows up

I remember playing this game for the first time as a kid. It was amazing in its time

I actually didn't miss those details, the first time I played the game hiding under the bed is how I got out the first time. second time I played the game I actually wanted to see how many methods I could use to get out and the moment I heard the creepy ambience I immediately knew it was Grey fox breaking me out.

If the ninja helps you escape and then you call Otacon, Snake will scold him for not helping him earlier.

I messed this up several times I had a chance so I had to do the button mashing 3 times. Luckily I was on an emulator so I used my mouse.

Love to see this game providing so much fresh content even today. Easily one of the greatest games of all time, not just in game mechanics, but also in quality of storytelling and core political commentary. Kojima somehow made his anti-nuclear sentiments so expressive and sincere in his work.

Millions have said it before and I’m going to say it again, the MGS series was ahead of it’s time. They were able to combine a serious story about espionage and mercenaries and also simultaneously fit in so many fun gameplay factors that were a far cry from the seriousness of the story itself.

Or wait till Otacon come to unlock the door. Guess that depends on which ending you chose. So Meryl’s ending is the ninja and Otacons ending is well Otacon

I remember learning the ketchup trick from my brother. Where he heard it from, I have no idea. Or maybe there's a codec call that tells you to use the ketchup that way and I just didn't ever hear it.

After you beat wolf, save the game because if you die from torture you gotta start over from your last save point!

If you use the ketchup without Johnny seeing you using it, he will open the cell and you must quickly stand up and hit him a few times to knock him out.

Huh, I didn't know about the 3rd one. I figured I could hide under the bed after a bit, and then only realized the Ketchup trick after Otacon was disappointed I didn't do it.

For me it only needed one failed attempt, then the ninja was already there the next time around.

I totally forgot about gray fox freeing you lmaooo.I was always an idiot and didnt save after the sniper wolf fight so while doing the torture segment i would accidently press the give up button due to all the button mashing so the ketchup was always my go to

I like how this game has some really good details l ike this. I love games where you can have multiple strategies to do something rather than being limited to one thing.

I've always used the Ketchup to get out.
