The 4L60E has 11 checkballs, this video shows the location of them. There's 8 loose and 3 encapsulated. There's 7 on the valve body side of the separator plate, and 3 on the case side. Plus there's one more at the tip of the input shaft. Video ends with some info about what each checkball does.
