For this series I skipped one of the Byleths to avoid showing the same, or similar convo twice. But worry not I will do a full female Byleth video later to make up for it.

I came back to this video because as of June 9th 2022 Ferdinand’s voice actor Billy Kametz had lost his life to cancer at 35. RIP thank you for giving life to such a great character like Ferdinand Von Aegir.

It's crazy how supports can make you reform your opinions on characters. I thought Ferdinand to be a weaker, less interesting, and annoying version of Sylvain, but after seeing his supports with Hubert, Dorothea, and Marianne I took a total 180 on Ferdinand. Coincidentally he started to get way better as a unit after that. Man this game is something else.

Ferdie kicked ass: he was a minor rival whose goal was to surpass to guide, and also implied to keep Edelgard on her toes. He, alongside Hubert and Edelgard take their roles with gusto and aim to do the best they can.

Easily one of my favorite characters. As most people, I thought he was going to be a pompous asshole because of his noble status, but I was delighted to learn it actually gives him a sense of responsiblity and tries his best to earn the trust of his peers, coupled with his optimistic attitude and his desire of setting an example for the rest.

@@nurihighwind5871 "different kind of jerk" I agree with that first impression. If not for his sheltered lifestyle, he would've been more self-aware of his speech. On the other hand, he has very progressive views, excellent skills and discipline, and he's even socially perceptive. (remember Hilda for example?) I actually think he is very socially intelligent. The particulars of his sheltered lifestyle is solely why he might not appear that way. He's an incredibly designed character.

I really really really like how it's written because you expect it to be about how she doesn't like him because of his arrogance/poshness and then it gets turned around to be about exploring Dorothea's trauma and her fears. And he remains sweet and understanding through the whole thing....

Also... in a meta way it kind of makes sense that they wrote her to hate him at first bc otherwise there's wouldn't be any conflict in their supports. Dorothea's looking for a rich guy to take care of her but what she's really after is someone who will cherish her and love her truly seeing her not as a diva but as the scared girl she really is. Ferdie is both.... rich but also cute, sweet, caring, shares similar interests and he did MEET her as that poor girl on the streets.

I ship it too, although they missed an opportunity. If I had the opportunity to write the end cards, I would have written: “Dorothea later remarked that ‘I could not have ever imagined a life without my precious bee.’ ” Of course, this is if she and Ferdie were together.

Ferdinand & Petra's A support is slightly different depending on the route you are on Edelgard's route: Ferdinand states Edelgard wants her to inherit the throne of Brigid to ensure good relations between them Other routes: Ferdinand states that once the Empire falls both Petra & Brigid are no longer hostages & are free After that the support is the same

I think some of her supports are very mediocre and others not that great like the Sylvain and Ferdinand. She holds a grudge against Ferdinand over a misunderstanding she never tried to to confront him about and in Sylvain’s, she tries to take the moral high ground about not caring about looks or status yet the only commoners she can end up with are Byleth who becomes Archbishop and Hanneman (who is old but still) a former noble. Sylvain has a much better support with Mercedes and Ferdinand with Bernadetta.

Ferdinand really grew on me. I disliked him when I first started playing the game because I liked Edelgard at first, but once Edelgard showed her true colors I saw Ferdinand more favorably by default. Seeing his Support chains with other characters, particularly how he treats Marianne in their Support chain, caused me to completely re-evaluate his character and now he’s one of my favorites. And I like his Support chain with Lorenz because their smug, pompous behavior is hilarious.

In my current run of golden deer, I managed to recruit everyone except Ferdinand. Nothing against him, I was just too late. Needless to say, I’m pretty hyped to be playing black eagles later since I get the lad himself at default

Out of house supports with Mercedes, Marianne, and Lorenz. AKA the three students (after Lysithea, before Sylvain and Ashe) who absolutely should be recruited to Black Eagles due to agreement with Edelgard's points. ...I was not expecting Lorenz to point out the inefficacy of trickle down economics.
