(From a Greek guy) Frappe is made with instant coffee. 2-3 fingers of water in a tall glass (not very thick not very slim), 2 table spoons of instant coffee (nescafe works best), the sugar you like if you like (no sugar is the best) in the mixer till the sugar melts (if you put) or when you are happy with how the foam looks (it must be thick) 2-4 ice cubes (depends on the glass) and fill the rest of the glass with cold water. THE easiest coffee you can make.
@JM-lh8rl

But without sugar you won’t have as much foam and it won’t last that long. It gives the foam “structure” once it dissolves in the water along with the coffee

I'm sorry but from an Italian... I don't wanna offend you Greek bros but the few times I tried instant coffee like nescafé it was disgusting. I would recommend to do this with a moka or maybe a home coffee machine like nespresso or others and just shake it with ice to make a shakerato. You don't really need sugar to make a thick foam, 4-5 ice cubes is usually enough. Or maybe try espresso tonic, I made it today for the first time and it's actually not bad

(Greek guy here). In our country, we make freddo espresso, freddo capuccino and frape. These 3 types of coffee are made differently in comparison on what was shown in this video. Freddo espresso/Freddo capuccino: -Make a 2ble shot of espresso -Put it in a shaker with 3 ice cubes(it is advised that if you want sugar inside, first put the sugar in the shaker and use the mixing machine to disolve the sugar and afterwards put the ice to cool down the mixture) -Pour and strain the cold espresso into a glass with 3-4 ice cubes and enjoy. (If you want to make freddo capuccino, do the excact same procedure but put cold milk foam on top. Frapee: -Put 2 spoons of instant coffe into a glass and pour a little bit of water on the coffe. -Mix the coffe in the frappe machine and let it foam to the middle of the glass. -Put 3/4 ice cubes -Pour tap water untill the glass fills up. -Add milk if you want.

In Canada, asking for an "Iced Cappuccino" will get you basically a coffee slushy that you can drink. It is a sweet expresso mixed with crushed ice that you drink with a straw. So I think there might be some cultural differences with these drink names.
@matthiasschaus5112
@matthiasschaus5112 Год назад
I agree there are cultural differences because if you ask for an "Iced Cappucino" in the U.S. you will be laughed at. In America, a "Cappuccino" implies the milk is steamed so it has to be a hot drink.

It’s like that in Poland too, another thing is that “ice (cubes)” and “ice cream” is the same word in polish so it takes a lot longer to ask for plane iced coffee and not pretty much liquid dessert with whipped cream on top. But it’s getting better with cold brews getting more popular

As a Greek i can say that Frappe is made with instant coffe. If you make it with espresso, in Greece we call it Freddo (cold in Italian) Espresso and a successful Freddo Espresso should have a layer of foam. However if you want to drink coffe like a Greek, you should brink your friends and have a relaxed conversation with each other. PS Ok, we have a lot of Greeks down here😁

About Frappe: For a country like Greece with tradition in coffee culture, it's a bit shameful we drunk so much instant coffee, having zero regards about the quality of the coffee we used. If you use the frappe mixer and put 3x ice cubes and espresso you have the iced espresso AKA freddo espresso. And FYI frappe is being made using NESCAFE. You put 2x coffee spoons of coffe in the frappe mixer with 2x ice or 20ml water and mix it together, then pour it in a glass with ice and 30 mli water, stir and enjoy. You dont mix it with milk. Milk and sugar is completely optional at this coffe.

I understand why tampering with a traditional (and long lasting for a reason) recipe would make people from a certain culture angry, but we should normalise calling it "authentic pizza" or "authentic frappé" when we want to refer to them. The planet is big, people from other cultures have their preferences and it's normal for us humans to make things the way we think will be better. It doesn't change the origin of the dish (a pineapple pizza is still pretty much a pizza) and while traditional recipes do have a greater cultural importance, variations should be considered as valid as.

@@sebaba001 Probably, it's a little fuzzy to dial in (up the dose, consider the weight of the ice, finner grind size, etc.) But I don't really know if that's the case, I've never been a barista so I don't know how it gets into the workflow
@TronKyLam
@TronKyLam 3 года назад
I have never tried to make it, but I guess not so many places want to do it, considering the amount of the other drinks they have. They already have cold brew, nitro, espresso tonic, and I think the ice filter is not that different to the extent they need to create extra work for that. I used to work in a specialty coffee shop in Australia for a short time, and I can say that every time we had an order for one manual filter (or pour over), somebody had to do only that cup. It's nearly impossible to multi-task with that drink, and normally costs about 3-4 minutes at least for it, and not so many people can actually say the significant difference between it and the batch brew which is completely prepared by the machine.
@matiaschacana5768
@matiaschacana5768 3 года назад
@@TronKyLam Interesting. Every specialty coffee shop that I've visited here in Chile offers more than one manual brewing method (Chemex, Aeropress, V60, etc.) The thing is that it's crazy slow sometimes. Last time I asked for a syphon and had to wait for 2 hours.
@TronKyLam
@TronKyLam 3 года назад
@@matiaschacana5768 I have not tried a syphon, so I don't know whether it is worth it or not. People in Sydney here is not patient at all, so if somebody orders a takeaway, they only wait for a maximum time of 5-10 mins. If they sit down, make it around 15. Normal cafes do around 300 cups a day, busy ones do between 6-700 to around 1000 or even more, mostly espresso-based coffee. With that being said, not many places are interested in doing these fancy methods just to sell 4-5 cups a day. Probably practical in Melbourne, as people there are more chill and willing to wait, but not in Sydney where I live xD

That's not frappé. I'm sure its good - but Frappé must use freeze-dried coffee to create a stable foam. Stable as in - it remains for hours.

As a Greek guy, who has worked in several cafés, I feel a little bit offended! (Just joking) Frappé is made with instant coffee. You pour in a big glass about 50ml water (one finger as we say), add one or two teaspoons of instant coffee (I prefer 1½), sugar if you want and then you mix it in a drink mixer for about 10 seconds, enough to make a rich foam. Add some ice cubes (4 in the summer and 3 in the winter 😂), some milk if you want and poor water to fill the entire glass. And that's all! You say 'Στην υγεία μας ('Stin igeia mas') and you drink it! Also a tip for our travelers. In Greece we don't drink coffee and we leave the place. Typically, it takes more than an hour to drink and leave! I say that because some tourists say that the glass of coffee has only ice cubes. Yes if you drink it in 5-10mins of course it's only ice cubes. But, if it takes you an hour to drink it you need these ice cubes to maintain your drink cold. I'm sorry for this long comment, but there are some things you need to know about Greeks and coffee. Thank you!

Tip: use coffee ice cubes, so your cold coffee drinks never lose the great coffee flavor. Just like a chef rarely uses water in cooking for the best sauces, as water has no flavor, but beef, chicken, or clam juice/ stock etc., does.

You are missing out on the lovely German "Eiskaffee" (ice-coffee), which is cold coffee over vanilla ice (or hazelnut or chocolate, whichever you like), topped with whipped cream and cocoa powder and sprinkled with roasted hazelnut (pieces), served in a large glass. More or less a very large affogato 😉

you NEVER put one dose of espresso on ice coffees. it disolves and loses all of it's strenght and flavor. Always 2 doses when you make ice coffee.
