Andrew, your comments regarding the inherent gaps in the DTS-Play system appear to indicate that your listening involves little classical or jazz works. I can see where those who listen to playlists or even CD’s comprised of distinct songs would not be bothered by the now smaller gaps introduced by the DTS-Play system. However I find them quite annoying when they interrupt a work that’s designed to be continuous. Would I fault AudioLab, Quad and others who use this in their systems? Yes I would….not for the technical reason but due to the fact that they chose a third-party’s streaming system that adversely impacts the otherwise excellent experience they provide their customer. Given all the effort they have invested in the rest, the choice of DTS-Play doesn’t make sense IMHO. Please continue to deliver such excellent videos.

@@BrentLeVasseur While the act of handing (or receiving) someone a physical object with songs has sentimental value, especially to those of us who had those experiences, I think if someone cared enough to craft a playlist for you, even one sent electronically, that playlist would still hold meaning. It’s the thought put behind the act itself more than the delivery process - at least for me anyway.

Great video. The Audiolab Omnia is great for a person who wants an all-in one setup and not complicate their setup. The mere fact that a person is getting two great products rolled into one package is a plus and that Audiolab didn’t skimp out on the quality of sound, in my book is great. If a person want gapless playback, get a turntable, hook it up to the Omnia, sit down and enjoy the records that you have that play with no gaps between tracks. Or put the CD in and also enjoy gapless playback. Thanks Andrew and Kristi for my Sunday video fix. 👍🏾

At my age I’ve been through vinyl,8 track, cassette, VHS, laserdisc, DVD, HD DVD, Blu Ray, and 4KDVD, and now streaming. After all the money spent on physical media and the various machines to play said media a all in one solution now makes sense. Give me a 600Play, set of Klipsch Forte’s , Spotify or Amazon music, a movie streaming service or two and I’m done. Great review.

I bought an all-in-one that was introduced 14 years ago. It's a Pioneer Elite X-Z9. One of the best purchases I ever made. When done right, these can last for decades and replace several components. I/O deficiencies can be an issue, but overall - it's great for a secondary system. Thanks for your review.
@starbase218
@starbase218 2 года назад
I think it's a bit too easy to argue that Audiolab isn't responsible for the Play-Fi app. It isn't, but it's the app that they chose to use, which I think can be a valid criticism of Audiolab in general and maybe the Omnia as well. I mean, your point sounds a bit... academic, to me at least. The fact that you can stream via an Apple TV or use bluetooth is a bit moot in my opinion. If you use an Apple TV, you're essentially not using the streaming part of this system anymore. And Bluetooth probably isn't the best quality. I was considering a Bluesound Node or Powernode, or maybe an NAD C700. I like the look of the 6000A Play and this Omnia. But as it is, I'm not swayed to this device, even if it sounds better, and that's because of DTS Play-Fi.

Another top shelf review! Always look forward to a notification from you guys! An upscale lifestyle product or a second system for an audio enthusiast at best… then it’s true calling, a luxury paperweight. What gives me the hibby jibbies with these all in one boxes (at this asking price) are the list of potential fails such as but not limited to the screen, transport, laser or electronics crapping out all closed in with a substantial heat source. Not to mention the dac and/or software connectivity becoming obsolete. It’s not if but when. Most likely just when the warranty expires, then comes the sinking feeling because you donated your old system to your nephew for his first stereo and realizing your listening ti your phone speaker for months until it’s repaired if you can stomach the bill.

The older I get, the appeal of an all-in-one becomes more and more attractive: components will likely be synergistic with way FEWER wires, giving a much neater living room. Andrew, how about a review of a Hegel? H95? H120? One of the many reasons I LOVE your reviews is that you address natural tonalities. I not only attend live orchestra concerts with some frequency (or did so before COVID), as an amateur musician, I play in rehearsals (or did so before COVID) with acoustic instruments at least once a week for over 50 years. I know what musical instruments actually sound like. Keep up the good work!

I loved Kristi’s take on this one. I chose the Powernode 2021, paired with the Q Acoustics 320is, based on your review and never looked back. It works perfectly for my lifestyle and space. When I listen to CDs, I use my Technics transport, which is connected to the PN. Do I want other Hi-Fi products? Sure. But, for now this setup solves my listening needs/wants at a very accessible price.

I recently sold my M5si (which I bought after watching your review) and my Node 2. I went for the Atoll SDA 200. It’s a French made kickass amp plus the accompanying streamer in 1 housing. It has a nice display, a real remote(!), great native app and Tidal/Spotify build in. And a DAC. I didn’t like the design of the amp when compared to the MuFi in 2020 but I dig the all in one. Only caveat: it has no phono stage. Check it out!

Really enjoying the channel, Andrew. I took the plunge and bought the Omnia a few weeks ago as part of a major overhaul. Space was a major factor in my decision and I'm really happy with the result. Play-fi app was a little tricky at first. I'm now looking ahead to upgrading my speakers because I don't think my Q Acoustics 2010is are doing the Omnia justice. The speakers you used in the video are just a bit pricey for me. What would you recommend for around 500 euros?

Hi Andrew I like the fact that I provides the option for CDs as I still do have a large collection. I still prefer the the sound of CDs to streeming as I have not paid for the premium package on any of the streeming platforms. I heard clear differences when I first listened to modonas erotica on a streaming platform and was waiting to get that sonic spaciousness and the little cues and changes that happens in the music it fell a little flat and killed my excitement. Therefore I may not need all my music to be high Res but the ones I love to hear I do purchase on CDs I do like the added flexibility given with the add cd player. So that product would probably be for me.

Hello Andrew, thank you for an interesting review of such a device. I want to know your opinion regarding Omnia. 1. Will it pull Monitor Audio Silver 6G speakers? Swing them at a low volume. 2. I watched your review of the best amplifiers of 2021. You noted that the Audiolab 6000 was the absolute best in its price category. Omnia is the same as the Audiolab 6000 amplifier. And he plays great and many praise him. How do you compare Omnia with other similar systems all in it? For example Cambridge EVO 75 &150 or NAD C 700? What is your choice? I want to get away from interblockers. Maybe you have other recommendations. Thank you in advance. Best regards, Sergey

I have a soft spot for the Cambridge Audio Evo 150 all-in-one but I haven't been able to listen to it yet. But on paper it should do anything I want. The only thing I will have to figure out is if it has enough inputs for me with some of the vintage stuff I want to hook up. That being said, I'm 34 and have recently started buying CDs again. Some albums sound great on a good CD transport + modern DAC combo and I find myself not jumping around as much as I would with streaming or FLAC files. And some CDs just sound better to me as a disc over the FLAC rip of the same CD so I'm not sure what is going on there. But gapless playback is important to me since I listen to quite a bit of Ambient music and DJ mixes. I bought my first SACD just to see what the fuss is all about but with most of the music on that format not being to my taste I will probably be fine with a regular CD transport by the time my current player dies.

You know you should have mentioned that gap-less playback issue...lol!! That said, this why you check multiple reviews before making a purchase decision(I'm messing with you). I love and appreciate the work that you and Kristi do, and my wife finds your demeanor personable and calming 🤔 as strange as that may sound. As for the QOTD, I have all-in-one so to speak, more like 2 and half. 1. NAD M33 - I know you killed it, but to these ears the amps sound great, they drive any speakers I put on them, and the functionality is pretty much unparalleled. 2. HiFi Rose 150. It sounds good and even streams video...why you haven't reviewed it yet is beyond me. 3. The Hegel 395...it's a beast. Lastly, I'd like I have to give props to the component, that in my audio/videophile journey was one of the best all round products ever made and that's my beloved Oppo BDP 105D, Blu-ray player, streaming device, it even plays my SACDs 🤔😜and backed up movie files...A TRUE Universal all-in-one media player with BALANCED XLR OUTPUTS. For the time, what could it NOT do? OK, the OPPO is my # 1. Keep up the great work GOD Bless 🙌🏿 and be safe.

I actually like the concept of all-in-one. The problem is, if something falls short, the product as a whole is compromised from my perspective. In this case, I understand the option of leaving out the volume knob (it would ruin the clean looks, and you use the remote most of the time, anyway). I even understand why they left SACD out (though I'm one of the 4 people...) . Not having HDMI/ARC and a sub-woofer out however, makes it feel somehow outdated, and, dare I say, limited, for an equipment that should be doing it all.

@Sai-cx5ib
@Sai-cx5ib 2 года назад
I owned a Hegel h95 for several months. For the price I was disappointed. The amplifier itself did not feel like it was worth it’s price. The buttons, knobs and remote felt surprisingly cheap and flimsy. The sound quality of the built in DAC and number of digital inputs was its best feature but I don’t think it’s hard to find a good external DAC nowadays. The overall sound of the amp was not anything special in my opinion. I was able to sell the h95 and get a used Yamaha AS2100 for less than the retail of h95 and I’m much happier with it. If you’re interested in an integrated with digital inputs look at Yamahas integrated amps for under $1000. They will be a better deal and sound as good or better.

@banjospacecart
@banjospacecart 2 года назад
@@erics.4113 No worries lol. You're correct about pure wattage being higher on the Peachtree, but, to regurgitate stuff that I've heard, it's not just about watts (amps * voltage) but about current (amps) specifically. I'm no electrical engineer so that's about as much as I understand, but it's enough to make me curious. I've also only ever owned class D amps, so the A/AB topologies of products from Hegel, Naim, Parasound, etc. intrigue me even more. Also, for context, I have the smallest maggies they make in the LRSs, so they aren't quite as hungry as some of their other speakers
@erics.4113
@erics.4113 2 года назад
@@banjospacecart true about current. The Hegel's are known for incredibly high damping factors which indicate that their actual current availability is greater than their modest wattage figures would imply. On the topic of Hegel and AB, I would also like to try kinki studio exm1, musical fidelity m5 or m6si as well. I have two class ab but in a more modest tier than those offerings. Best I have done so far is Cambridge cxa61. I love it, because, well, that's the one I have haha. Curiosity is an expensive trait in this habit, I mean hobby

Largely on the basis of Andrew’s previous review I’m currently auditioning a Black Friday refurbished 6000a Play which was cheaper than the non-Play 6000. I don’t mind the addition of PlayFi as a back up streaming option but would NOT want to have paid full price for this streaming unit. Hoping to integrate an integrated 2 channel amp such as this into my Denon 6500 AVR based home theater (playing thru Mirage OMD 15 floorstanders) via the pre-outs for HT bypass mode. As decent as that Denon has been for 2 channel listening I’m pleased at the significant upgrade in SQ this Audiolab has offered so far. I also picked up a repackaged 6000 cdt based on rave reviews but so far unlike most other reviewers have not been able to distinguish an audible difference whether playing a cd on this transport or streaming the lossless rip from my iMac via iTunes as streamer thru optical out, nor even via the Node 2i which I’m also auditioning into the 6000a Play. Bad ears, cheap coax from the transport, and Node to blame? I don’t know but all music regardless of the source still sounds wonderful coming from that 6000 so far so that’s a win! Having said that, I want the option to pick and choose which components work best for me and have also in the past experienced the frustration of having a partially crippled all in one unit when just one aspect goes faulty. I appreciate the concept of simplicity but prolly not in my future. And biggest issue I’m experiencing with both the PlayFi and especially Node unit is the tendency for them to be losing connection with my large library of ripped files, located on external USB HD and Synology NAS respectively. Frustrating lack of product support for this! My old Mac-based server, while low tech and prolly jittery as hell is still the most reliable, stable and rich in features inc established playlists and cover art which I can easily access remotely through Apple’s standard Remote app. Still wondering if it’s worth trying to troubleshoot the other streaming apps and what SQ I should supposedly gain in the process. Any insights welcome 🙏

Great review. I have the Bluesound Node, so I’m curious if the streaming advantages are worth the jump. I listen to a lot of vinyl. I too have a large cd collection that I play via the NAD C538. I am toying with the Audiolab 6000A (non Play version) and keeping the Node. I would probably use an Aux input for phono since I am using an old Conrad Johnson as a phono pre. I too,would love an hdmi in. I am currently running hdmi through an Outlaw 975, but would probably decide to forego any surround processing by sending the Rec Out from the 975 to one of the RCA inputs on the Audiolab. I would use the Audiolab 6000 in Pre only since I would send the signal to an old school Kenergetics Research Chiro C 300. Does this sound reasonable? Is there a better way to navigate the balance between HDMI and Analog? If there was an all in one that did the above, I’d say yes. I haven’t found an AV receiver or pre/pro with a strong emphasis on two channel musical fidelity that keeps the analog signal path truly analog. I’d rather have outstanding 2 channel stereo with surround processing as almost an afterthought. Is there one?

And too, while I agree that this is not Audiolab's fault, Play-Fi MUST step up and improve upon this; and Audiolab and other hifi manufacturers are in the responsibility to push them.

It is Audiolab’s fault as they choose to use a system that’s been regarded as poor for several years. Your car has crap sat nav. Who do you blame? The car dealer/manufacturer. Admittedly it’s probably a licensing issue by their parent company, but they should switch to a better alternative.
