My grandfather passed away on April 29 2010. My grandfather loved this show. I lived in Long Island NY I used to visit my grandparents in Florida. I live in Florida now. I was in Florida at my grandparents house it was 8:00pm . My grandmother and I was in the kitchen I asked my grandmother did u ever watched this show. So I put on TVLand and my grandmother said to me omg that was poppy's favorite show. My cousins and I called him poppy. My grandfather was in the livingroom. My grandmother said put it on for poppy. I said let's us do it my grandmother said ok. So we rush in the livingroom so Pasquale had a show for u. She asked me what channel I think it was channel 62. She put it on. I will not forget this. My grandfather had a huge smile on his face.
You're lucky to be able to have that kind of back and forth with your dad. My dad couldn't tolerate any of us giving a different opinion so I usually said nothing. I think his dad was even worse from what I could discern. I think being able to give an opinion and back it up with some good facts and arguments is a valuable tool to give a child so they can learn how to critically think for themselves and not just agree with everything everybody says.
Archie Bunker was ignorant & a reactionary. BUT, he was honest. No hidden agendas. You know exactly who he is. Personally when it comes to guys like him who were OK with Nixon, I'll pass! :)
@@daveinstlouis I would say someone who works a real world job is still more successful than some overpaid has-been actor/director who is mostly successful because of what he was born into and not what he achieved for himself. Reiner was born into showbiz royalty and got by on his father’s name.
Actually he's a highly regarded Emmy award winning actor and director of a handful of CLASSIC American films. He's just not a white nationalist like you are so you don't like him.

Even though I was a child during the 1960's & early 1970s, and lived in a very small rural town in kansas, I was aware of their Names war, hippies, and war protestors. Dad watched Walter Cronkite TV world news, and those topics were the main ones...I remember the videos shown.We always watched All in the Family when new, each year. No way would it be allowed on TV as a new show now. Back then it wasn't shocking or surprising.
You and i are about the same age, then. I turned 57 a little over a month ago. I didn't know the full details of what was going on in society back then, but I do know the Baby Boomers (25 or so years old) and the G.I. generation (in their 50's) were at odds with one another. Speaking of Walter Cronkite, I sure do miss him, along with Howard K. Smith (ABC) and Huntley/Brinkley (NBC).
I am Polish and don’t feel insulted by the term Dumb Polloack as this was made to be funny. Nowadays it would be offensive. In fact I feel more offended that Norman Lear picked Polish American to be the Meathead’s ethnic backround as my family is very proud and respectful to our elders even in times of disagreement.
The best episode is when Michael gets an inheritance and donates to the McGovern Presidental campaign. His wife can't go to college because she's working to support him. He lives off the Bunkers who he thinks are fools, but never even get a part time job to pay his own way. But, gives money to McGovern that he should have given to his wife. I like George McGovern, but Michaeli s a selfish prick like most progressives They live off others, until the get enough money to 'oppress' others. And the best part, is they never get it,they have no common sense or humility just a big ego and a sense of entitlement and rectitude.
Yeah for all his talk I don't think Mike is much better than Archie they have different values and political alignments but I think they're still so similar though Mike could be worse.
fntime I remember one episode where two black guys broke into the house and Archie was being Archie by saying the things that made the character famous, when Mike said somethings the robers like “You have to forgive him. He doesn’t understand the struggles and racial prejudice you’ve been through.” One of the robbers responds with “And you do?”
I believe that I remember those guys who broke into their house were portrayed by Cleavon Little and Demond Wilson who would later go on to become bigger stars.

I agree with the comments.Mike never got a part time job to help Archie and Edith, and Gloria had to work full time to support him.Alot of college kids have part time jobs.What's crappy is after Mike and Gloria move to California, Mike cheats on her, and they divorce so he can have his younger chick.He looked moronic without the mustache.I watched every episode of that show when new.
I'm loving these comments and how everyone thinks this scene/show is actually lending credence to old conservative values. It's the complete opposite. Archie was endearing but his purpose was to contrast the illogical belief systems of old America with the progressive changing of the guard in the 60s. This scene was made to point out how people with Archie's values lack logic and the ability to debate people with views such as Mike. Hence, Archie drowning out Mike by singing a cliche American propaganda song = the equivalent of a child putting their fingers in their ears and singing "la, la, la." But given the belief systems, why should I expect most of you to actually know when your values are being belittled?

I disagree. The republicans are way worse with not telling the truth. If you don't say the election was stolen, which we all know is a lie, you can't run for office in the maga party. The far left which is about 20% of people on the left won't allow for discussion either. Most of them are young and will hopefully grow out of it and allow for discussion of topics. 70% of republicans think the election was stolen and still support trump. That's scary.
