Actually, every single one of the phobias has the whote space motif in them as well, just incredibly subtly, acrophobia has it but modified slightly in heartbeat, the easiiest to hear it in is arachnophobia
not a leitmotif, but something that related to music throughout the game that made me cry when i noticed it throughout the game, the dreamworld and real world songs are always seperate songs even if they do contain hints of the other in them like the songs in the dreamworld vs real world park and treehouse so you (or at least i) just come to associate the dreamworld music with exaggerated happiness while the real world music is the more somber but more realistic counterpart but in memory lane, where all of sunnys friends are still alive, the background music are the songs featured from the dreamworld which made me realize the music that i hadn’t truly minded this whole time wasn’t an exaggeration, it was truly how sunnny viewed the world wen his friends, and mari, were around ☹️
Ok but like can we acknowledge that Hero went through the framed suicide of his platonic girlfriend, nearly got married to a donut, and became the one responsible for a casino-
Not gonna lie, when I heard Playing Forever for the first time and caught that little snippet of the main motif, I wanted to cry. Because it only plays later in the game after you choose not to answer the door and shun reality and the truth. But that song meant so much to Sunny, it kept sneaking in whenever he was happiest...
The game over music for the the split between the good and bad ending is called "try again little brother". Its The remnant of maris soul trying to give him the last little push he needs to keep moving on to finally forgive himself, he's so close and shes so proud. I'mm crying now.
@@thealmanancy9020 In Japanese, the number 4 is yon, but can also be shi. The dictionary form for “to die” is shinu, which when shortened sounds like death.
If I remember correctly, the bells in "Your Catastrophes -- Procession" has a (off-tempo and off-key) version of the Basil leitmotif in it, at least at the start. It's most noticeable if you compare the first few seconds of A Home for Flowers - Empty and the first few seconds of it. Might just be imagining things though Also, there's a similarity between the backing beat in A Single Flower Blooms and It Means Everything, although I'm not sure if it's close enough to qualify as the same leitmotif
All of “Your Catastrophes-Procession” is in the key of C half-sharp locrian. I say that because C half-sharp is used as a pedal tone through the whole piece and makes use of notes that, if raised to C sharp locrian, use a vocabulary exclusive to its relative major: D major. It’s kind of terrifying. Basil doesn’t want you to leave and the C half-sharp pedal tone doesn’t let the music move either.
I like how white space's motif shows in mostly in places where Sunny would be scared, the lake, ladder, even a keyboard (which is basically a piano), and the game over screen (dying.) not to mention the ghosts. These are all things Sunny is more than likely afraid of for various reasons but the motif of white space is there in the background taming the atmosphere so Sunny doesn't fall into an emotional spiral.
Honestly, I think the fact that the duet is a waltz is connected to My Time, which also uses the waltz low-high-high thing, but in, like... a mocking manner? Not sure if that's entirely accurate, but it sure felt like it even when I listened to My Time without knowing what Omori was.
the WHOLE entire omori soundtrack rips my heart on in a very unique way. i only ever played it once, and its so difficult to bring myself to play it again because of the sheer crushing feeling of melancholy
Got a couple more for the roster! All of the new trailers on Omocat’s yt channel have a couple of themes and Nintendo’s trailer has the main theme in it! Nintendo’s trailer: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hVJXZR5ahYA.html
Yay I found someone else who shares my love for Three Bar Logos. That song alone convinced me to buy and play Omori after hearing it so many times from other LPs. Honestly I just love the whole Otherworld area and it’s songs.
See You Tomorrow and Crossroads are both such heatbreaking songs, but in their own way: See You Tomorrow is the feeling of the day being over, while Crossroads feels like childhood nostalgia that you can’t ever experience again.
all of these are great finds! :0 i've been writing down leitmotifs myself for the past few days, so it's really cool to see all of them compiled in one video (a very high quality video, might i add). a couple you might have missed: - both of the playground themes feature the Friends motif. in Let's Get Together Now it's 58 seconds in, and in Where We Used To Play it's a minute in. - apparently i also recorded Arachnophobia and Thalassaphobia as having the White Space theme, but i can't find it right now. - sunny's violin version of the main theme is in the morse code recycling radio, for some reason (the radio you find in one of the Black Forest 2 rooms). - capt. spaceboy's mixtape was originally used in Bugspray by jami lynne (aka the same composer as the mixtape itself). seems like toby fox's legacy of stealing his own melodies is continued lol. this whole video is amazing though, fantastic job! definitely deserves more attention.
ohh i can hear white space in phobia now, nice catch! and it's good the leitmotif trend is more implemented. It makes a certaint event more meaningful and emotional!
It’s kinda a version of the ( white space’s ) main melody! Don’t know if that was what you were talking about but the way it goes “do do do do do do do do do-“ etc etc it’s that melody but remixed to be creepier and sort of feels like a subversion? It seems to be in all of them but more noticable in Arachnophobia and Thalassaphobia
You missed the radio that plays in Billy's (Recyclepath's) room and in Black Space 2! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3kZWj-sA2ag.html There's the Last Resort motif, "That Song" motif, Main Motif, and the recycling brainwash Morse Code you hear in the background of the Recycultist dungeon.
09:07 Room for 4 also contains that leitmotif. 31:51 Splintered Sweets in the Castle also has that motif. 31:06 Sinking has very similar notes, especially if speed is 125%. Wow! I didn't even imagine that there are so many motifs in this game and that most of them are little (or big) masterpieces. So, there are 4 main (most used) motifs: The Recital (Main), White Space, Friendship, and Forest. It is interesting how it literally almost describes the whole plot in 4 words. I think, my favorites are: Group #1: 37:49 - Main 26:59 - Basil 20:30 - Capt. Spaceboy Group #2: 18:07 - Special Mixtape 14:33 - Forest 6:38 - Pyrefly Forest Group #3: 06:06 - Oasis 2 14:09 - Rain 09:07 - Last Resort 12:00 - Highway I can't really decide what song or motif I like the most, so I combined them into groups. The soundtrack of this game is truly amazing.
ahh Room for 4 i should've paid more attention, can you put timestamps for Splintered Sweets? and Sinking is actually pretty similar to OMORI, nice catch!
@@00Zero In Splintered Sweets in the Castle it starts playing near 0:50 and then repeats a few times. I'm not too sure about this one, it just sounds similar.
there’s some corrupted yelling in 169 alter where you can faintly hear something that sounds like “no NO NO!” which i this is Mari yelling while falling... spooky.
Yeah (underrated comment) you can’t really tell what it is, maybe only confusing sounds in Sunny’s mind, but your theory is really good and probably the most real one. Because he will never forget the sounds he heard that day, so maybe he mix up those sounds with the corrupted music going along with the fight with himself.
"Humphrey is my favorite character along with Kel anyone with me." Oh boy do I have news for you. I'm in the process of writing two entire mods about Humphrey and Kel. The first is a 'Humphrey mod' called "My First Friend, Humphrey" Its a prequel about Sunny and the Great Creatures making the worlds that would later become Headspace. It starts out with just Humphrey and a 3 year old Sunny making Orange Oasis, and ends with Humphrey becoming a ruthless monster helping Omori maintain the Headspace cycle. The second mods working title is "KING KELSEY". Where Kel gets his own White Space equivalent called Happy Place, and a Headspace called Headgame. Kel's lonely delusional mind create a fantasy world were everyone loves and pays attention to him, and he goes on adventures with his "best friends" Jay, Cris and Maverick. Each area is based on Saturday morning cartoons like Pokemon (Petrocks), Sonic X, Transformers, GI Joe (Orange Joe) etc. It takes place during the week leading up to his confrontation with Hero. In his dreams, Hero has been turned to stone, and in real life he's not doing much better. Kel has to save his brother before he does something rash. Also, I didnt even notice Humphrey's motif was in the Slime girls song. Great video. Edit: on second inspection this kinda looks like a plug but it isn't. I just wanted to show how much I really like these two characters.
20:33 I enjoy final duet tbh, I know it's basic but there's just something abt it that make me feel nice in a comforting sort of way, especially near the end! god the ending bit is incredible listening to it just makes me feel all warm and nice
"that song" is very interesting to me since it appears in many places and we don't even know it's name. and i'm starting to think mari's piano song (also the main theme) is a motif of that song.
ghoulish cd sounds a bit like black space theme, maybe it's just because of this instrument in both of these tracks or the waltz metre, but this could also mean something. thanks for the video!
how. how dare you make me emotional by dropping DUET at the end. what have you done. i was. not emotionally prepared. for that ending. how dare. augh. i love this video. my heart. how dare you.
I always tought that all phobia fights had the exact same theme song, while the only one different what the water sounds on the last one. it's good to notice that that's not the case :^V
-Oh oh.... +No me digas, aparece By your side... -Sep +Y después le sigue Dear My Little Brother? -Más o menos +Va a doler :") English: -Oh oh... +Don't tell me, By Your Side appears. -Yep +And then Dear My Little Brother follows. -More or less +It's going to hurt :')
Great collection of leitmotifs! Something I have noticed is that there is a bit of White Space in "Sweet Paralysis" as well, specifically at about 0:30 :)
Wow, Omori is Frisk confirmed? Seriously tho, they both have resets. Wait, what if Headspace isn't a dream, but actually real? And Sunny can access Headspace by Omori while sleeping?
I wonder if I'm the only person who has noticed the heartbeat in the background of "A House for Flowers (Tulip)" and wonders if that was an intentional heartbeat or if it was just coincidence that the percussion is an almost perfect match to a steady idle heartbeat pulse? lol.
The choir at the beginning of Teehee Time sounds a lot like the part after the laugh in A Rose By Any Other Name. Also, the screechy synth part at the end is a distorted version of the flute part in A Rose By Any Other Name.
So, you missed at least 2 (maybe 3) leitmotivs in You Cannot Go Back. Trees plays at the start and the end of it. Lost Library (with its verses swapped) plays between the Trouble Never/Always part and the Three Bars Logos part. And 109 - Aquifer seems to also be a part of it from what I've heard, but I don't really hear it... Probably one of my favorite tracks in the game, btw.
Yooo I’ve been waiting for someone to make this for a while now, and you did a great job! There are a lot of motifs I just realized from this video, like the neighbors room theme being in fleur and white space being in remina :O The composers are geniuses and I can’t stress that enough And my favorite song is either the space boyfriend theme or the space ex-husband theme, I can’t decide But almost all of the songs are either straight up bangers, like underwater prom queens and other battle themes, are really vibey, like hanging with the boys, or just work *really* well, like the final duet and the entire black space ost
You didn't have to go off so hard but you did Thank you for making me cry with that ending And the Omori motif And the Mari motif And the good morning motif Bless your dedication
I find it really cool how some of the lietmotifs, like the park motif, are used in Headspace to reflect the real work areas or characters. The park in Headspace is Sunny creating it based off of his experiences in the park in Faraway Town, so of course the music would be inspired by it too!
OH MY GOSH THANK YOU FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS!!! I was so interested in the motifs in the soundtrack but I couldn't put any of my thoughts into words for a video. This is so incredibly helpful!
As someone who likes leitmotifs, I've always wanted a video like this; the way you constructed the video and the ending you gave it. It was too much; thank you.
Fun Fact: In White Space 122, beside the piano ver, there are some 4 extra notes at the end of each chord, those 4 notes are exactly the same the 4 ending notes of Title - Do You Remember ( more clear in Do You Remember if you want to hear it)
Extremelly odd that "Wolrd Ending's Valentine" dosen't contain sweatheart's First motif or even the Castle's Motif. Also dosen't the Phobia's themes contain the white space's Motif faded in the background?
So the Junkyard motif is actually longer than the clip you're showing. If you go to 0:40 on You Were Wrong, Go Back, it's the exact Melody of Stardust Diving. :) This Motif had be found in a couple other places, too.
Thanks for taking the time to put this together in a very digestible format. Omori's music plays a very important role in conveying it's central themes, so seeing where each leitmotif appeared helped me understand the game on a deeper level that much more. Good stuff
I listen to the soundtrack in the background sometimes and I realised how much the white space motif appears (some that feel like the don’t really even tie back to white space). It even appears more than the main theme
this is so well made oh my god! i didnt even notice most of these things while playing through the game or listening to the soundtrack- you’ve got a great ear for this stuff! also, the ending made me cry all over again, how dare you >:,0 but in all seriousness, absolutely amazing work
I’ll hear these in a lot of games and it’s always frustrating to me because I can’t ever seem to recall exactly where I’ve heard a bit before, it’s really nice to see it laid out like this, thanks
"Black Space Motif 1" is really the motif of the stump left behind when the tree was cut down, and "Black Space Motif 3" is really the motif of Sunny and Omori's abandonment of his friends
