He guys guess what? I put the petcocks in Reserve when it runs. I was thinking I put it in Prime! So I am just low on fuel.🤣 How's that for another problem solved?! Thanks @nightster for noticing and pointing that out! 👍

Congratulations and great job ChiefPep!!! You said you have the petcock set on "PRI" (which is short for Prime) and you can get fuel to the cylinders. The prime setting is used to prime the carbs so you don't have to crank the motor to open the diaphragm in the petcock via the vacuum. Most petcocks have "pri" for prime, "on" and "res" for reserve setting, reserve for when the tank is low on fuel. When you thought you had it in prime you actually had it in reserve, if you look at the petcock lever you will see a small arrow pointing outward to indicate what position you are in. So to make a long story short, your vacuum lines should be fine and the reason why it was sputtering was because you were just too low on fuel for the "on" setting. Again CONGRATULATIONS!!!
@chiefpepdesign
@chiefpepdesign 5 лет назад
Now these are the comments that I love! Are you serious?! Strange though because I thought I had a lot of fuel in the fueltank?! Another problem solved just like that! Haha. Thanks a milion!
@stephenauty2402
@stephenauty2402 5 лет назад
Correct but don't leave it in PRIME , the carbs are not good at shutting off the fuel and it will drip into the cylinders over a couple of days and then you need to drain the engine and replace with fresh oil..ask how I know?
@chiefpepdesign
@chiefpepdesign 5 лет назад
@@stephenauty2402 I know I know! Thanks! But as you've might have read, I made a mistake. I didn't put them on Prime but on reserve! The tank is just not full enough! 😅

I'm not sure if I'm picking you up correctly but you appear confused with the fuel tap settings, 'ON' and 'RES' reserve is operated by vacuum from the intake manifolds, without vacuum the taps will not pass fuel i.e. engine running. The bike should always be run on either position. 'PRI' is for prime meaning you can prime the carbs without vacuum and fuel will run through the taps without the engine running. This position should only be used in the event of the carbs being empty. You did a great job of your bike and can't understand why you don't have more subs as building bikes like this is popular at the moment. Though your music does my head in lol.
@chiefpepdesign
@chiefpepdesign 5 лет назад
Yeah one other subscriber pointed out that the bike is running on reserve, not in prime. So it could be that it's just a matter of low fuel. I was thinking I had an issue on the vacuum lines!

Prime is for filling the carbs (doesn't use a vacuum) but don't leave it in Prime as fuel will go through the carbs and fill your crankcase, I don't know why but the Hitachi carbs don't fully shut the fuel off. I had a crankcase full of oil/petrol after leaving for a couple of days.
@chiefpepdesign
@chiefpepdesign 5 лет назад
I know. As you've might have read in all the comments below, I wasn't putting the petcocks in Prime as I thought I was, I put it on reserve... The fueltank is just a bit to empty! Nothing wrong with the vacuum hose connection! 😂

Great job Chiefpep! Congratulations on a job well done! As for your petcock problem, the 'On' position might be slightly clogged. This should be a simple fix. I would not leave it on 'Prime' position all the time as that is never advisable. I would rather you use the 'Reserve' position if that's any better until you can resolve the 'On' position on the petcock. Looking forward to dyno and test ride videos!
@chiefpepdesign
@chiefpepdesign 5 лет назад
No I did a complete revision on the petcocks offcourse. Ultrasoned them, new seals everything. They are like new. On Pri they bypass the vacuum system. This is why it works in that way. They are not clogged. And offcourse I don't leave them on Pri. Then the carbs would flood. But thanks for the thinking ahead!

It depends... I am afraid the fuel will flow constantly... The vacuum makes sure the fuel only comes out when the engine runs (and the carburators create a vacuum).
