Seconded. Obviously it would require more work on their end to come in and record every day, but having 5 pods per week at one hour and fifteen minutes each I think would be superior to 3 pods at 2 hours each. (In terms of keeping up with daily content, previewing and reviewing weekday Leafs games instead of one or the other, having new quality content out each day, not having some pods feel a bit drawn out)
It’s genuinely annoying to see him becoming apart of this show. He just says BS to create “outrage” and everyone thinks he’s just good at trolling, he’s just irritating
If Matthews puts up 75 this year and like 100 points that wont be as good as McDavid getting 64 with 153 points last year. 11 goals isnt better than 53 assists. Assists absolutely are worth less 1 for 1 than goals but they absolutely matter. Adam just hasnt seen a player dominate with assists. Sedins would give people empty nets all game long. They took over games with passing and theres nothing less impressive to that than a sniper picking his spot.
Adam : you are wrong Hockey isn't the only sport with assists, Basketball has assists stats and and Football the QB get gets assists for passing reception by the receiver it is just all counted as total years
Embelishment is exactly what the word mean , making it look worse than what it is , pretty straight forward , that's why there is always 2 penalties Jesse and Adam want hockey to turn into Soccer
Guys the rule book is like a writing from Nostradamus. Basically a bunch of nonsense that anyone can interpret to fit the situation they are looking to fill
Adam and Jesse are insane. Of course diving to make something worse is a penalty. Doesn't matter if it's also a penalty, it's still a disgrace to the sport.
Watch that Saros thing again, he hits the puck looks at the player and then kicks out to trip him. He did it on purpose 100% no doubt in my mind because it never gets called.
No he doesn't kick it twice. Saros extends his legs for full spread and his body towards the forward involuntarily because of the push with the skate. Then again you need to get eyeglasses.
Nobody knows what is going to be called as a penalty anymore, with game management out of control. You get a bunch of clear infractions not called and then one soft call out of nowhere gets called. Then the broadcasters rebuke the player in the penalty box for being undisciplined and hurting their team, because he was the random body pulled over by the random on-ice police. It's like being pulled over by the police for going 11kmh over the speed limit on the highway and most people were going faster. Officiating really goes off the rails when the refs want to catch the last flight out of town and not get stuck at a hotel that night, so everything short of manslaughter gets a pass. I also despise diving in hockey. It's one of the things I like most about lacrosse. If you dive in lacrosse, they'll just hit you while you're on the ground.
Simulation and embellishment should be two different penalties, yes. The one creates something out of nothing; the other tries to exaggerate the impact of what happened. If I'm hooked, it's a penalty but if I dive when I could have carried on, that's embellishment. If I grab a stick under my arm and go down, that's simulation, creating a penalty out of nothing.
Adam shouldn't be so rude to assists. I've heard assists help players donate money to charity and that assists are good people. Can't believe he would just go off on assists without noting that they're good people. 😳
Not all that much to talk about right now for Leafs, they have like ten days off and they’ve been both good and bad recently, games have been addressed on other pods 🤷♂️ but yes should be mostly Leafs which I’d say it is when they are playing
With the Stutzle call the key to me is "accidental". Sarros threw his pad into the feet of the player intentionally and there was no other possibility other than he was going to knock down the player. The trip was not accidental and in fact was intentional regardless what happened to the puck.
Why do you all act like just he the refs in the nhl suck have you ever heard any other fan talk about the refs. Every sports refs apparently make bad calls. So whats more like that every ref sucks in every sport or that its are hard job with subjective moments. the second one so stop talking about it so much
Adam only thinks goals matter so much more because Matthews doesnt get enough assists to be in the Art Ross race. If he had Mackinnon stats right now, Adams entire take would be the opposite. He just wants to pump his guy's tires thats all it is.
Embellishment vs. Diving Diving is when no infraction happened and you acted like you were shot with a gun. Embellishment is when someone hooked you and you acted like you were shot with a gun. Both are poor sportsmanship, which is why both calls exist in Hockey since we don't want to become soccer.
there is no "diving" rule in the NHL rulebook. but yes, the literal definition of embellishment is "a decorative detail or feature added to something to make it more attractive." if there is no original penalty, theres nothing to add detail to.
@@mp40submachinegun81 Ya, though diving is actually called despite not existing as a rule as 'Unsportsmanlike Conduct', and is defined as 'diving' in the rulebook, just assessed not as a named penalty in and of itself. I just disagreed with Adam/Jesse's takes, since there's a fine line between selling a call and embellishing a call, and why I think you have to call embellishment is you end up going the same route as soccer, those guys don't think they're diving, they think they're at worst embellishing, and we only see its a dive in slow motion. If you don't punish embellishment, you end up with alot of diving in the long run.
I'm a life long NHL fan and i have no idea how to explain certain rules to new watchers. What's goalie interference? Well, would you like the explanation from last month, or the one they made up on the spot yesterday? Cuz other than that.... iono
So many goals arent scored without there being an amazing set up or assist. Like unless the goal was unassisted or the pass was super easy assists do matter adam.
Whether he's just kidding or not, Adam's line of thinking is definitely one of the reasons people are more easily dismissive of playmakers and why in a supposedly team game you have an obsession with the player who finishes above all else.
@@i.hold.vertigo2329That’s nice and all but I’ve seen leaches like Suzuki have no goal scoring finishing and it affects his teammates like Caufield. Playmakers are important but they’ve got to at least be able to get 20-25 goals with a consistent shot volume so that teams have to respect their shot in order to make plays
Zach Hyman is making his way to best Oiler of 23-24 off the back of other people's passes. That's not a knock on Hyman either, it's a team sport, what his skill set allows him do is amazing but so is the pile of A's from 97/29/93. Those assists are also an essential part of what lets him play like that.
@@PoolNoodleGundam I’m not sure if you’re a fan of the Leafs but I always think to myself “Why couldn’t Hyman work in Toronto if playmakers are making him so good”. Something is up in Toronto with these non star players not working well with the stars
Now Steve, I think you've stated on at least that the last two episodes that if you get hit in the head (the Gallaugher/Pellech incident being the catalyst), then act like you're dead or knocked out. Isn't that embellishment? Hmmm...nuts!😂
@dayneroman9162 Embellishment implies a penalty occurred, and both players go to the box when it's called. Diving implies no penalty actually occurred, and a player faked the entire thing for a call.
Exactly 😂 one of my favourite parts of the show, just slips in little nonsense here and there. Sometimes it’s caught sometimes not. Little Easter eggs. Steve drops them from time to time too, idk how the “pizza not being from Italy” take has never been addressed smh. I’ll keep bringing it up until it is redacted 😅
16:20 dumb argument from adam and jesse. the definition of embellishment is "a decorative detail or feature added to something to make it more attractive." if the original penalty isnt a penalty, what is the player adding detail to? you cant add detail to something that doesnt exist.
37:00 possession of the puck matters. Matheson didn't have possession when contact was made, didn't alter his course to prevent contact and didn't attempt to slow down. Stutzel had possession, as Drew said, didn't enter the blue paint and was prevented from getting a legitimate scoring chance. Those are the differences. Saros's penalty is a grey area and I personally think it was a make-up call for the Grieg one.
You guys should Hire Brendan Gallagher for your advertising department as he's amazing at false advertising, does no one remember Tim Stutzle got injured on that "diving" play where he took Knee on Knee and had to sit for a few games after. Like sure he goes down easy but on the play he got labeled a "Diver" he didn't even dive like ffs.
As a facility attendant (aka zamboni driver + toilet cleaner). I've heard as recent this weekend, the nhl and co-ordinators are still trying to figure out the proper ice depths and maintenance for the outdoor rink they're installing. Sources are 2nd hand, but from other more seasoned attendees recieving calls asking if they can show the all star staff how to run equipment, as late as this past Friday and making plans to provide trainingfor them.
You guys are thinking about the tripping thing backwards. The completed play that rule 57.1 is referring to in this instance is Stutzle dangling Saros, not Saros kicking the puck away. For example, if the d is breaking the puck out of the zone and as they make their breakout pass the forechecker trips him up. If the pass to the winger is completed then the play has been completed. However, if the player doesn’t get the pass off well and the puck gets turned as a direct result of the d being tripped, the play was not completed and it is a penalty. The same principle and logic applies to Stutzle not being able to complete his deke as a direct consequence of Saros’ leg tripping him. Based on the 2023/2024 NHL rule book’s definition of tripping this was the correct call.
Goalies always have different rules applied to them. (Covering the puck in the crease, playing the puck in the corner, playing the puck in the offensive zone) terrible tripping call DREW
It's the secondary assist that is the most ridiculous statistic in all of sport and its not only ridiculous its weighted evenly with a goal. A few games ago, Nylander got a secondary assist and it went like this...88 to 16 to 34 back to 16 back to 34 then goal and 88 got a secondary assist!!!! Just stupid!!!

I actually agree with Steve but in the fact that embellishment and diving, or whatever you wanna call it, should be separate. 2 mins for embellishing a call to the point of unnecessary, and maybe a double minor for diving and trying to make something out of nothing. I have no idea how you would distinguish the 2 but it's a decent idea.
5 and a game is obviously a little too insane of a call for diving, but I absolutely agree with Steve's sentiment. We don't want simulation in the game. How about a 2 minute minor and a 10 minute unsportsmanlike misconduct?
22:00 ... The head flick I don't mind, as long as the stick is close to hitting you. It's a stick... right near your eyes... the human response is to flinch.
Why is Rasmus Dahlin draftable when the other 3 D-men are assigned? Either draft all 4 or assign all 4. Also.. Steve shouldn't have been able to draft Dahlin if he already has a D. NHL totally messed this up.
The thing is who can this guy pass to? There’s no dmen that’s gets goals often, Marner doesn’t get goals often, Nylander has quit after his contract extension, Tavares might be aging hard and there’s no bunting or Hyman. Plz get Matthews out of Toronto
