Hey guys this was a beautiful old cemetery and I want to thank Dan again for going out of his way to meet with us and tell us about this cemetery! A couple of notes real quick... I got a handful of comments on the “Creepy and Sad Cemetery” video telling me what a disrespectful p.o.s I was for knocking the leaves off of a grave with my boot. Which I must say is the most stupid thing I have ever heard. Maybe if I was dancing on the graves that would be a different story... But not knocking leaves off the graves. But, as you all know, I have nothing but love for these old places. So that was directed at those guys, not y’all. Wanted to make that clear. Moving on, I get comments all the time telling me I need to put these places on Find A Grave. I know these comments are with nothing but care for these old places but so far everyone I have been to has been on Find A Grave. Thirdly, I am definitely aware they are on there. And as much as I appreciate people posting the Find A Grave links under the videos, I ask that you do not. I don’t reveal the locations of these places to protect them from vandalism. Someone said that, that is played out and I should post the locations. But not so. Over the past couple of weeks I have had several comments encouraging the desecration of cemeteries, etc. The majority of the time these comments are just from idiots with nothing better to do than post comments on RU-vid. But either way, I’m not going to take the risk. Lastly, while I have participated in a couple of cemetery clean ups, I am not the cemetery caretaker. I get only a few hours one day a week to shoot all the videos and unfortunately I personally do not have the time to clean every one of these cemeteries that I come across. When the day comes that I do have the proper amount of time, trust me I will - and I’ll bring you guys along! Anyway, I do make the “powers that be” aware of places that need serious attention. And usually that goes no where. Heck, I couldn’t even find someone to take responsibility for fixing a destroyed tomb leaving exposed remains. And lastly ONE of these days I’ll hopefully remember to bring some items to help me better read the old tombstones. I truly appreciate all you guys and gals suggestions! It does not go unnoticed! I hope everyone enjoys the video! This was a really cool place! -Robert PS, how cool was that arrowhead?!
Keep doing what you do and don't bend to opinions of the ignorant or blatantly trolling. You have the viewer's you do because of exactly how you have proceeded to act in your videos, if you acquiesced to those comments, your style of videos would change and your core fan base may not be as happy with the videos. I would have no issue with someone using their boot to sweep the leaves off mine or my family gravestones if the end result is an improvement. Unless you are dancing on the grave or using the headstone for a bench you would be fine in my book.
Thanks. Yeah definitely no disrespect intended on my part. I do wish I could do more, but right now the best I can is document and bring awareness to these places and people!
I don't understand removing leaves with your boot being offensive. Using your hand could get you snakebit, And it's nice that someone cares about these graves.
Reasonable people don’t expect you to fix all of the world's problems-we’re grateful that you take your time and effort to document these places and SHARE them with us! Thank you-again. You could just hike through the woods exploring for your own pleasure rather than researching locations, purchasing and lugging your gear, carefully filming, and then taking the time at home to produce the videos that you post. You’re obviously careful and respectful at sites and your decent intentions are very apparent. And I’m sure many of the complainers, quick to tell you what you *should* be doing, have never participated in any kind of public service good works-they ought to be ashamed. And yes, that arrowhead was very cool!
Next to my grandfather s house was an abandoned cemetery. The dates 1860 to 1929. Alot of children s graves. My grandfather in the spring with relatives would work to clean it up. And from his own garden would place flowers. I asked him why. He said" Because I Can, and Will. He would take a soft brush and brush the markers. Some graves only had the date and if the dead was an infant. My grandfather would stand at each grave and greet the individual. " Hello Mrs Bevavir " she died in childbirth in winter of 1888" the baby was buried with her. Some of the graves he said was sinking due to soil , the vegetation and the fact that some times the coffins deteriorated.
So sad....everyone of those graves was a whole life. A person with hopes, dreams, family. A life lived but now forgotten. How transient life is. Nothing disrespectful here.
I first got interested in visiting old cemetaries in Pensacola, FL while in college. I was shocked by a series of gravestones where one woman lost her husband & several kids, I think it was 6 or 7 ppl in 18 months she lost. It was shocking to me to see that, I never forgot it. It became important to me to record our family's history, and my parents' story. Our family is from GA & N FL. .
Very interesting cemetery! I also enjoyed hearing Dan give us clarification and knowledge of the cemetery! I love these old cemeteries! People think I’m nuts for exploring old cemeteries, but I find it fascinating! These are the very people that made this country!! RESPECT!!!
I am a Georgia native, born and raised. I still live in Georgia. I am really grateful that you go into these lost, forgotten cemeteries and show the videos on here of the names being uncovered from them. I still have some ancestors that have graves out there that I do not know where they are located, so I hope that one day you might uncover some of my ancestors and I would be able to see them.
I, too, am looking for that video in which the guys come across my great great grandmother! Best wishes on you being successful in seeing where some of your family was buried as well!
You are not being disrespectful at all trying to clean of the headstones ! You are being very respectful in trying to honnor the people buried there and to tell their story as well as you could. If not for your careing in doing this those buried they may have been completely forgotten about. As you said, someday a land development company or person will buy the property and the cematary will completely vanish and lost. I found out by chance that a section of where my parents home and other homes were built in where it was once farm land and yes they destoryed a cematary and told no one about it and they didn't even remove all the headstones but they burried alot of them. A home owner went to have an inground pool buildt and many headstones were found. By that time the company that had sold the property's were long gone and couldn't be found. Now 'that's' disrespect. My parents used to live on 7 Phillips Drive in Edison, N.J. and the stones were found to the end of that road and to the right 2 homes down.
Frances was the name on the stone that you just cleaned off.. that’s why you didn’t find dates on the slab it was on this stone... I love what you do.. never feel you are disrespectful at all.🥰
Awesome as usual. Also, I’d rather see you brush those leaves off with a rake or your boot then get bit by a rattle snake. It’s interesting to learn you are not allergic to poison ivy, I thought that was just a weird quirk in my family. My dad, brother, nephew and me. None of us get it. My kids have never had it either but my poor hubby can look at it and get it.
So many old cemeteries have not weathered storms like hurricanes. The old cemetery where my mother's ancestors are buried lost markers to trees falling upon them breaking them in two or more parts. Old iron fences around graves were removed to allow maintenance to be performed in an easier manner. This particular graveyard looks much different today than when I was a child. I have few photos to show what the grave of my ancestor looked like after WW2. Unlike the cemetery in your video "ours" is receiving good care other than broken markers being removed. Thank you for caring to show & talk about this one. from Texas, RC
YOU GUYS ARE THE MOST RESPECTFUL MEN AROUND AND ARE JUST TRYING TO TELL THE STORY'S OF THE PEOPLE BURIED IN A GRAVEYARD !!! Without out you doing this the graveyards would be completely lost to time. For one 'hater' out there you have many buds here that luv ya and know you only do the right things.
@@AdventuresIntoHistory I luv you guys!! You're up beat & real and thank you for doing what you do. I have to catch up on your videos. I've been metal detecting & found some cool Morgan Silver Dollars in a box. Been studying about coins since then but I'll catch up on your videos. Be safe & have fun🤗😙
Robert very nice video as always ! Don't worry on using your feet to clean off graves . Safety first. And at least you are doing great work letting people know of these forgotten areas. Kinda sad to see no up keep , but maybe showing videos they will start. Thank you !
Thank you, and I certainly hope so. It’s interesting, the “creepy and sad” cemetery video I did that got a lot of views, so many people commenting shocked that there was a cemetery in that condition. Which I found surprising because I see them all the time. So I do hope my videos also bring awareness to old forgotten cemetery’s, even ones I don’t film.
when Ft Gordon expanded into incorporated Richmond county, it inherited over 40 family cemeteries. I have been exploring as many as I can find. In 2007 I found a grave site of a Confederate field grade officer. I lost the pics from my phone and have been trying like crazy to find the site again so I can look him up and find a bio.
Hi Robert from the U.K.! 🙋♀️ I don’t understand the people who “thought” you disrespectful regarding scraping leaves off with your boot,, I thought you extremely sensible, as. better that, than getting bitten by a rattlesnake!! How stupid they are. Ignore them. There are many more of us who admire and enjoy your videos...such a shame more isn’t done about these old cemetery’s..they are history , and will soon be gone forever if not looked after better. One thing I would ask is, please, please can you remember to leave some tracing paper and black crayon or whatever in your truck. Love how you “read “ with your fingers, but some of the more difficult to read stones would be better with a tracing. As well as that, you would be recording history, and could perhaps pass on to the local library, or whoever you have out there who would preserve such things? Look forward to more from you...regards to you and your friends. Helen 👍🙋♀️😘
We seem to be kindred spirits. I like to imagine what places look like in the old days. In Tennessee there are many old cemeteries with landowners graves inside stone or fences. Employees and slaves were buried surrounding the landowners but outside the rocked in areas. Slaves were marked with large stones. You do a great job on these videos. Love the history!
Brian is a bit of a poet and philosopher, and a really good one at that! You are both really awesome people to keep doing this. You are so respectful and caring. How anybody could call you disrespectful is beyond me. Thank you both for your kindness and respect and for taking us along! God bless.
Robert, don't let the critics get you down .my heart has always been sadden at these old cemetaries. . I appreciate the work you do in caring for these forgotten cemetaries.Take care ,keep your chin high. God Bless.
It looks like the Brannon family from Georgia is listed in the 1850 Federal Census including Emily P. (born 1834 died 1853).She had 7 siblings. To answer the comment that was made about future generations forgetting, well that is mostly true. I have been finding my own ancestors graves in New England. It's a bittersweet thing to find these old families and that's especially true when they are your own.I have been visiting cemeteries for many years. Thought I was a rare bird until I ran across you guys and a few others here on You tube. It always makes me sad about the graves of slaves. I know not all southerners owned slaves however. Good job guys.
*I really enjoy Dan's sharing of History on these videos.* Those books are priceless History. Greater Facts ... *On Baptism,* in my History and Religion History Studies, I came across a man speaking to the subject that stated that Baptisms were originally done *"in moving water", thus those sound as if they replicated an original form of Baptism".* *"The intentions are the 🔑"*
Still catching up on videos and your deep desire to record cemetaries is wonderful along with all the historical knowledge Dan has in his head! I hope Dan is recording all he knows about the area in some format especially when he isn't on camera with you. We cannot afford to lose our history; it's the foundation which holds our future!
I love old grave yard because it is part history of the past I wish I could go to some of them I just had eye surgery 5/6/19 and I am disabled I can't walk that good anymore. Be safe out there in the woods God bless you for showing someone past life.
I am amazed that viewers would contact you about how you clear a tomb stones, amazing. There is disrespect and there is disrespect. They must be just pickers. This was another wonderful video your later visitor really filled in the missing pieces, that book looked amazing. A small banister brush & a can of compressed air would not go astray. Thanks for another in my continuing education of Georgia.
Great vid. Fascinating cemetery. I wonder if an old family bible might have the names of the others buried there? Impossible to know who may have it though without some digging. I hope you will go check out the old homes that are still standing and take us along. Thanks for sharing. God Bless.
I am so thrilled I found you and your channel! I love history and I thank you for taking us as viewers along with you as you pay homage to those who came before us. Bless you!
Thanks for showing. You all did fine uncovering and cleaning. I use my battery powered leaf blower on some trips, rake on others. Keep doing what you are doing! As far as Find a grave, I just upload new pictures. Surprisingly, the owners of one cemetery saw the shape the place was in and organized a cleanup. Keep up the good work!! BTW, that place has really gone downhill, Last time I saw that place has to be 30 years ago. Hardwoods all gone out in that field. My grandmother grew up in that area.
So sad, I love the History of America, and when I see it being lost, it's sad, it's our History, no matter how small, it's still America's History. But I know what you mean, unfortunately, Historic Preservation people are very Selective. I know.
Thanks again Mr. Robert! Love your desire to show and share with us these beautiful places are and must have shined beautifully as these ppl walked, lived, loved, cared for their home and land! Sadly, so many young women died in giving lie for her children. It was such a, difficult time in living and developing their property. Hate to see how mankind today doesn’t wish to be bothered bring these important ppl which care enough to make their home and graves to be pasted on to their children in the future! A, one birth and reared in Nouvellé Orléans, one thing about we, Acadians honored our dead loved one as man did build their graves above ground so our children can reached back in time and speak to them as we’d done when they’d lived and loved one the other! It’s such a, short blink of eye passing through this flesh Earthly life for another life waiting us which we’d come through these bodies for such a, short time! As a, small girl 21 century was eons ago! Never thought I’d see this day! Getting older I’m looking back as it was just yesterday! Life has been good Then yet, we’d do not realize till ones old as myself and my mother whom out lived all her younger siblings two children and my father hr hubby her love for so long when she’d approached 91 yrs. on Earth 🌎 I’d so wanted her to live to 100 yrs. She’d told me No, my precious daughter! I’ve lived a, wonderful life but, burying all my siblings, all I’d helped mommy raised them as I’d watched my grandmother passed away I’d not liked death! Even though we all wish to enter heaven at our time here is over as we’re just passing through, life is truly too short! I’m ready for Father God to take me home I’ll get to see my family my two children we’d buried though I’m not liking to leave you and your brothers and your families one day we, shall all be together with our LORD GOD WHICH GAVE US LIFE ETERNAL! Yes, mommy but, this flesh body is all we’ve known, We’ve no recollections of the First Earth 🌎 Age when we’d all lived here in that Dominion, YAHVEH erased our memories from that age! It’s still a, little frightening of taking this last breath. I’ve discovered our soul leaves our flesh bodies through our mouth! I’ve told my hubby the day he fines me dead to please close my lower jaw. Many ppl do not realize this and they leave without closing ones eye lid and lower jaw collapses! I’d not want to be seen this way! Sure we’re in Paradise yet, our bodies return to that dirt from whence. It comes from! I’ll get cremated for I’d hate to think of the evil maggots eat my flesh! HÀ! HÀ! Thanks again Mr. Robert for acknowledging these ppl which begun their hard life here most likely in a, beautiful home on top a, beautiful hill! What beautiful Sun sets, Sun rises as they’re on their veranda! Ppl, do not take time to bring beautiful decor onto the outside trim as the home you’ve purchased! One can just imagine the beautiful home it was! Well decorated with such beautiful edges trimmed at each cornered trimmed as my grandmeré/ grandpére house! Loved their home! As young children we’d been forbidden to go into her parlor! S an adult I’d totally understood her reasoning! Her beautiful furniture so nicely trimmed as her porcelain figurines, she’d been one. of. The few wealthy ppl living in Nouvellé Orléans! My Grandperé was the first man to own a, model-T ford! The first family to own a, TV! We’d gotten our first tv when I’d been about 7yr. old. One channel! Only Saturday per week did TV come on! First thing we’d stand to our Pledge of Alliance to our Flag. Then a, Prayer 🙏🏻 and then cartoons! Commercial once one the hour for one minute! HÀ! Went off air at 12:00PM! After lunch was outside playing all day! Now, I’m old and enjoying you’ve videos! Thanks 🙏🏻 again! God Bless and Love you brother in Christ! Same to your friends
Your reading these tomb markers are no doubt the only mention of these long dead/forgotten folks... For a brief moment they are once again appreciated... Good work... Very interesting.
Robert. Another great video. Adding in some history from Dan was an excellent addition to the piece keep up the great work. No need to apologize for being cautious I would use my boot too rather that get bit than your arm or hand Good to see Brian’s doing ok!
"OUTSTANDING work Cody, my compliments to you, Cody, the other. Robert and everyone who joins y'all on your endeavors to restore the memories of the people, the areas and history itself.Damn the naysayers and remember that those who forget or fail to know their history are doomed to repeat the same mistakes. Keep Charging!"🐢🐴🦅🇺🇸
As someone who goes into the woods looking for lost cemeteries, I understand how scary it is to post them because of the vandalism that people do. In Missouri my mom took me to several cemeteries where people have come in and destroyed some of the tombstones. Not only were some of them broken but someone shot some of the tombstones with guns. It is very disrespectful to mess with these places. They contain so much history to help people find them. So I appreciate what you do and I'm sure that everyone who gleans information from these old cemeteries appreciates you too.
I so enjoyed this video Such a shame it’s neglected You spoke of a Silas Raney grave someplace We live in Missouri and we have a Silas Raney buried in Norwood,Missouri These cemeteries like this are an education for families to know who and where they came from Please continue your finding and talking about these forgotten places Thank you
Take a broom or large handle brush with you and leave it in your vehicle so it is ready to go with you on your explorations. Love the old cemeteries. Always tell them they aren't forgotten as you leave.
God bless you guys! Its not disrespectful trying to clear & acknowledge so many long forgotten souls no matter how you have to do it. Anyone complaining can go do it themselves... but until they do... Shut ur fly trap!
I just want to say thank you for sharing these videos with me it's just a shame no one wants to preserve the history of the cemeteries and old houses I love history and the older they are the more interesting they are those were once someone's loved ones and now they are forgotten it is so sad that once we die how quickly people forget about us it's truly a shame and I thank you for sharing the videos again and I hope that someday someone would enjoy going out to these old places and cleaning them up for others to see and thank you again for
And you are not disrespecting the people who rest their you're only trying to save their if they could talk I am sure they would say thank you for caring
What a good video, sad how cemetery forgotten. Good to see your friend explaing histroy, and to see book he had with pictures.just subscribed to your channel.
That was a awesome cemetery, but honestly I was enjoying the surroundings more. What a beautiful, peaceful place. Thanks for the info as well. Went to my first beautification at one side of my family on lookout mtn this weekend in Gadsden Alabama. It's nice having small personal graveyards I think, and even had an outhouse 😁.
There will always be complainers and bellyachers! Ignore their stupidity...they wouldn't risk being bitten by a snake or stung by a scorpion either but since they are sitting safely away from that, they have to criticize. We have way too many of those folks in this world! Now I will come off my soapbox...and thank you for being so respectful and for being so interested in these people from days gone by. Its just so sad that they have been so forgotten. They were once just like us...
This is your best video ever. The old boy that showed up at the end done you good. I would love a 60 minute video on this one. Go over that hill and down to the creek. Great show guys. Superb. Beautimus.
Very cool series. We have a family cemetery in MA that's set way off the road and forgotten about. I went out there about 7yrs ago with my daughter and took some pictures. Since then a good friend of mine went out there with her son and Boy Scout troop and cleaned up the site a bit. Thanks for your videos.
Robert and company please know that I personally appreciate that you would want to do this kind of research for those that are buried there. It truly saddens me that the states where these cemeteries are located don't think it's important to maintain them on any level. While it is very sad I find it very interesting that someone like you would give these people their right to dignity and acknowledge their existence not matter how long ago they walked on this earth. This is why I don't want to be buried like they were and then to be forgotten by the living like these folks. From the dates on the makers all/most of their relatives are gone as well. Thank you for the respect that you show to those who have gone on before us. Be Blessed in all that you do.
Thank you for your work on these cemeteries! Without your interest, some of these folks buried here will never be seen again. You aren't being disrespectful, you are being informative. Don't listen to the folks that are just "too touchy".
Thank you for all you do in bringing these forgotten places to our attention. At least those people long gone have been remembered even for just a moment.
Unfortunately they do bulldozed over .. it's sad but with all the people on this Earth they say they need the space for play grounds or even for building..and one day it will be one of us in the ground forgotten...as for me I'm being cremated I personally like the ideal of blowing in the wind than placed in a dark hole and forgotten...now don't no one take this personal ... I talking about just me...but all do appreciate the hard work it takes to get back in some of these old cemetery and I have a great respect for the research you do so as to inform us about the area ....so Ty for taking us along on your adventures 🤗😁
That was awesome especially with the history. Thank you. The flower description of a cemetery is so true. Brought tears. One question maybe two (lol) why don't you carry a prepared pack with gloves etc? Just wondering. I enjoy your videos. Until next time stay safe. ❤ from Kentucky
I agree too many graves to not be plantation owners and slaves this one looks better then some you visit It breaks my heart ❤ people just forget these places
Hey Robert! I just discovered your channel and I immediately subbed. I love cemeteries, especially old ones. I'm so glad you have a channel for tapophiles (aka 'tombstone tourists'). Best wishes from north of the border in Ontario 🇨🇦, and thanks for all you do. 😊
I’m sure you could easily carry a small brush to clean off the leaves and dirt on the grave stones. You can just keep it in your vehicle so you have it when you happen upon old cemeteries. It’ll get the soil out of the lettering and make reading easier, and you’ll leave the place a little better than when you arrived. That was a really nice place. I feel like it’s fine for the graves to be taken back by nature after the people who knew and remembered them are gone.
Great video I enjoy hearing about the history. I always think you and the guys are very respectful of grave sites. We have a old calvary fort not far from us called Fort Reno and the officer had their grave site inside the walls another area outside the walls for POW's which had a small wall or fence then POW that was considered to be a traitor was buried outside the cemetery.
When those who were in that generation die off even though the have relatives who have been born later they do not know them because the older generation was never in their lives. So they are just forgotten in the past. But I’m lucky to have known my great and great great grandparents. Even a lot of my great aunts and uncles, plus a number of second and third cousins on my mom’s side as we are close.
If you do accidentally step on a grave not your FAULT, You and your team are very respectful of all the cemetery, 6ou also do alot of cleaning them also. No oñe has the right to be a troll Doñt let the hater's añd trolls bring you down 6o7 are awesome,✝️🛐💜
If it didn't bring so much attention to the head stones I'd say a bucket with soap water and sponge to better read and clean up each head stone, but I know as soon as you clean them up someone who didn't know they were there would vandalize everything. People are assholes most of the time lol great video, very peaceful thank you for being so respectful and leaving things as they lie.
Thanks Robert -- awesome old cemetery! I wonder if there was a disease epidemic around there -- maybe typhoid fever or TB -- since so many seemed to have passed around the same time.
I’m thinking that was a stone church with graves around it. I don’t think those linear walls of stone were fencing. Some VERY OLD tombstones. I was right!
You are not disrespectful at all. Dagnabbit Robert....love you....please carry a small whisk broom so you can brush the headstones to read. I love that you read them for us.
Always excellent video's! Really interesting stuff, even though I know nothing of the southern history. I am in Canada. Nice scenery. everything green and lush! We just lost the snow, pretty well all has melted! I don't think anything that you did there by cleaning off the grave stones is disrespectful in any way. If anything it is a lot of respect for these people by exposing it. Wonder if you rubbed a bit of charcoal or some silicone spray would make the engraving more legible? Might waterproof and give a bit more longevity to the engraving? I really hope you didn't get a reaction to the poison ivy! We have that miserable weed here! Have a sauna, smear some aloe Vera gel on yourself! Man that p.i. is bad news! Thanks for sharing. Your video's are fantastic!
Thank you very much. I didn’t have a reaction to it, thankfully. One of these days I’m gonna brag about not being allergic to it and it’s gonna get me. I definitely need to bring a pack with some supplies to better read those engravings.
Robert i respect and admire all you do to bring your viewers so much history from the old southern way of life and death . you and your crew are awesome. Keep up the great job you do. Be safe & God Bless you all . from you of you greatful viewers from. Michigan
I admire you guys for remembering so many forgotten people. I'm a New Yorker and your vids also show the beauty of Georgia and its history, makes me want to move there🤔 you guys are great!
I really appreciate all that you do. Keep the great videos coming. Your exploration interest is right up my alley, and I hope to soon be able to do similar exploration in my small west Texas county. So much history, so little time. God speed!
I appreciate so much the care you take when sharing cemeteries with us. It is obvious that you respect the graves, and the people who are buried there. I enjoy going on the adventures with you, it's fun to travel to places I'd never get to see. I wish these cemeteries could all be protected and "restored" - but they can't. It's nice that you share them with us. Keep on adventuring.
Brian I just loved your heartfelt sentiments. I live in Alberta and it has a lot younger history than the States. You are all so fascinating to listen to, and I appreciate your visitors who provide additional information. I think your whole crew is very respectful of the grounds you inspect.🇨🇦
I may make a suggestion that I am sure someone else would have made, gather together a grave search kit and keep one in each vehicle that you might drive on one of your searches so you will always have what you need as needed. Never know when that will happen. Any more trips to do so soon? I know you are busy with the old house but one shouldn't stop exploring the world around you and you're good at this. God bless, sir, and thanks for all your hard work in the many cemeteries lost to usandthe homes lost in time.
You spoke about finding a rattler exploring. Every Copperhead I ever found was in the leaves. Dude , bring a brush a Copperhead will put a bad hurt on you. You can smell them they smell like cucumbers , smarten up. Semper Fidelis.
The best history is found within the memories of the elderly. I'm getting as much of my family history from my father before he passes. He's 77, so anything could happen from here, but his memories of the local area are invaluable. As children wait longer and longer to have children of their own, history will take on even less importance, sadly. It could be worth leaving your contact details at these cemetaries or post an ad in the local church newsletters etc. edit: i posted before Dan appeared. He's right about listening to the elders.
