I have the 50mm 1.2 RF mount and honestly I wish I had gotten the EF for my R5. The EF lenses are AMAZING on the new canon mirrorless, the focus is light years ahead but you keep those classic lens designs. The RF lenses are technically perfect but also don’t have some of those interesting quirks like the older EF lenses.

Interesting. That's good to know. I definitely love the characteristics of the classic 50 1.2 that I currently use. I'd also just be really sad not to be able to shoot it with my film cameras. I think I'll be getting an R5 or R6 soon, but just keeping with the adapter and EF lenses for now.

I'm at a very similar stage. I've been a Canon user since the film days and have some nice lenses I don't want to part with. The thought of entering a new system seems like cutting an arm off! But they are tools and its a case of finding the tools that are the right fit for you and what you shoot. My plan is to just keep going with them for now and see what the future brings (and hope the prices of new tech comes down.... hahahahha).

Yea. It's a tough space to be in. I know this is nearing the end of the road for what I know, but I don't know yet what the future will bring. I'm with you about just keeping on for now. I'm hoping that my 2 workhorse cameras will make it through this wedding season and then I can regroup for next year.

i love my 5d m3 and my Elan (Eos 50, in my case), even though i don't shoot with the elan very often (i will). The 5d is still my main camera, it has probably more than a million shots, it never failed me and it's still going strong. If i found a camera exactly like the 5D M3 with better focusing and better iso performance, i would consider to use that as my main camera. I guess that would be a M4, i guess, but as you said, it's not exactly the same

Yeah. I now use a pair of R6 and love them. I like the color so much more than the 5D4 and the autofocus is insane. But there is nothing like the sound of the 5D3 shutter.

The Canon 5D Mark 3 was also my first real digital camera. I've considered many times changing systems/upgrading but I've always loved the images from the MK 3. I've also dabbled in Fujifilm and lusted for an X-Pro. Recently I picked up an EOS 1N as I mainly shoot film for fun and I already have those L lenses. I'm also undecided but when I do paid work (events) I use the 5D so unless I switch over to Fuji or something else I'm in the same boat. So, I feel your frustration. But oh those 5D 3 skin tones!...Let us know how this shakes out for you...

I'm glad others are in the same boat. For now, I'm just holding and hoping nothing breaks. Then when I book more weddings for '22, get an R6/adapter. 🤞🤞

Okay so I have 48 cameras keep your good cameras the 7e and up to the 5D Mark IV I absolutely love my 5D Mark 4 and my Elan 7e I have two of them also have an Elan 7 NE it is a awesome camera you don't have to sell any of your cameras you don't have very many there. if I was you I would just keep collecting cameras that's simpler than collecting cars LOL and take up less room I also love working on them that's fun also I also shoot medium format with a Pentax 645 I have two of those cameras I keep one loaded with color film and the other loaded with black and white so you do not have too many cameras

Haha. That is a good collection. The 5D4 is long gone, replaced by a few R6, but definitely still have the 7e and lots of MF film too. It is fun to have options.

I'm sure it would. But, I don't want to completely change systems. So I ended up buying a Canon R6. The whole Z line looks solid though!

What problem do you have with the EOS 3 and EF 50mm f/1.2 combo? It should work just fine....

It should. But it missed focus for an unacceptable amount of images. And as is obviously film, di wouldn't know for a long time. I've sold the EOS3 and now use an ELAN7e and it works great with the 50 1.2.
