Well it proved to be worth it. Had they stuck with the original design, it would've been critically panned. The fact that they listened and kept the classic design instead of going to a realistic and gritty route made them have the opportunity to make lots of great money at the box office, have great reviews and also a trilogy. If the original design had stuck, there would be no sequel or trilogy for the love action Sonic movie franchise.

And it was the best decision they ve ever made. Just imagine how proud and content the workers are feeling now with this design and its success

K&K Animation Studios I find it funny that they actually DID fix it. Like, when you look at it from a business standpoint, completely redoing the animation had to cost INSANE $$$$$$. However, I think it was still the right call, since we all knew the old design would have put the movie in the history books as one of the biggest movie flops since Disney’s “John Carter”

@veracsthane funnily enough, this is taking money *from* animators as they indubitably didn't get paid overtime for a complete overhaul of this asset with the same deadline.

The animators don't have a say in what they create, the director and producers do and the animators just do what they're told, they don't make their own decisions. They only do as the higher-ups say.

I still think his hands could have been slightly smaller, the fur could have been worked on more and his shoes could still be better.

Even as a furry myself I thought the first design was godawful and I am so glad they changed it. The old design honestly just looks like whoever made it had no prior knowledge of Sonic's real design and was just told to draw an anthropomorphic Hedgehog with red tennis shoes. Whoever did the redesign needs to be praised in one way or another for their magnificent work

I prefer the first one. Has more personality & distinctiveness. The updated one just looks more like the video game version but still not 100% faithful. At least the first version went in a unique direction. But the update is neither completely faithful to the video game or completely unique & in a new direction. I I have to ask what’s the point? It’s just a boring predictable compromise of the two.

They did a good balance between realistic and cartoon in the new version. The fur was a good take.

It definitely errs on the cartoony side, but I'd rather have a lovable cartoon than an uncanny freak show.

Jovanna Flores the old model tried to do realistic and it looked horrible. The new one is a good balance. He technically looks realistic but certain elements (like his eyes and gloves) make him look cartoony. I love it

J Turner SW will always kinda be weird when it comes to the fans. Look at the prequels - that wasn’t well liked but the Clone Wars saved it. And time heal old wounds (tho Episode 1 and 2 are what I considered fascinating unwatchable movies). That being said, Disney take on SW has been messy, and the best thing to come out of it was the Mandalorian, in which is the unofficial start of cleaning it up and listening.

J Turner also I think SW really needed a Kevin Feige type. If Jon Fav and Dave Filoni are going to run the ship from this point on, then that’s good news. They’re good with fans, smart and intuitive.

It’s almost funny in a way. So many big Hollywood studios these days reshoot their films and essentially make whole new films in like the last year of production, meanwhile Paramount delays it half a year off JUST to make the design of Sonic correct. That’s quite the commitment.
