Never thought I'd see the day when greenwashing gaslighting would be a thing! Thank you for this video and I'm glad you mentioned that luxury is not exempt from guilt. I'm tired of hearing their superiority crap from people who have been brainwashed when they are guilty of so many awful things as well.

Oh the irony of the formatting of the SHEIN ad with “Our Products/Our Planet” inadvertently which can be read is “our products are over or more valued than our planet.” Though, demand is a big problem. I do think it is pretty much our fault. Brands HAVE to focus on the consumer. That’s how businesses work. And it’s easier to ask people to buy less and save money, than to ask companies to lose money/be less profitable. Of course marketing has greatly fueled the demand, but the point of companies is to make money. As long as selling fast fashion is profitable, it will never go away. The whole reason greenwashing exists is because of consumer demand for companies to be greener (or at least appear greener). We really do hold all the power here. We have the money the companies need to survive. I do believe there are small brands that are sustainable, and that even large brands can take steps to improve that, at least to my largely business uneducated mind, don’t hit the bottom line. (Like not letting customers take hangers home so they’re re-used in the shop). At the VERY LEAST brands should respond to the demands for greener products by focusing on what they can do to make a practical difference with a minimal cost rather than greenwashing and trying to appear like they’re changing when they are not.

6:25 I once had a theatre date (I know posh) but I had no suitable handbag. So I ran into HnM one evening to get a black leather looking bag. I saw the purse of my dreams and it had a big green 💚 VEGAN 💚 label on it. As I was pressed for time I just grabbed it thinking it was cheap vegan leather. After the theatre got home and took my stuff out of the bag. All the way down at the bottom of the little credit card pocket was a tiny label that said "100% polyester, made in Bangladesh" ... Sigh
