"Paddy" is the preferred diminutive form of "Patrick" in Ireland and the UK. "Patty" is usually the shortened form of "Patricia" and is almost exclusively female.

The UK has nothing to do with it, as Padraig is a Gaelic name and has nothing to do with those assholes. Paddy is short for Padraig, and Patty is short for the English form Patrick, it’s mostly a female nickname for Patricia in the US and UK tho.
