Late night news from the desk of All Time Low 📰 What do you think will come of their lawsuit VS the (as of now) anonymous accuser?
@carlyy2
@carlyy2 Год назад
I met Alex & Jack after a show in 2015. I was hanging out with a guy who worked at the concert venue and he had me stick around to see if the band would show up so I could meet them. I was really drunk when they did come out. Both of them were respectful, took pictures with me and went on their way. I was an easy target and they were nothing but kind and professional. One of my friends was also invited to party with them after one of their shows (I sadly wasn't there that night) and they were kind, respectful, and professional then as well. I know people have different experiences, but I would be shocked if these allegations were true.

it’s so hard with situations like this. you never wanna shut down the victim or not believe them. but in this case it seems a little fishy. as soon as ATL announced they were taking legal action & pushing this to the limit last year everyone stopped talking about it. idk usually bands kick the member out and admit their guilty within months of accusations, you never see them go all in like this risking their whole career. this is gonna be a huge situation in the next few months

exactly. That's what Panic! at the Disco did a few years ago. When things came out about Kenny (the guitarist at the time) Panic fired him. I would assumed it would be the same for these guys.

@@tommygeorge2840 that's because Kenny was guilty, Jack on the other hand, when the accusations came out the accusers friend posted on twitter saying the allegations were fake but then deleted it (see an above comment) these dudes are life long friends I highly doubt they'd abandon Jack in his hour of need I agree you should never shut down the victim but at the same time there are people who make false allegations who make it so much harder for the real ones to be believed which I honestly believe happened here, I believe Jack is innocent and I believe the rest of All Time Low making themselves plaintiffs is their way of standing in solidarity with Jack

I agree - I think more bands should be more open about taking legal action because accusations can genuinely destroy bands. Panic!'s new record, post-drama, did significantly worse sales-wise, beyond a level that would be explained by just a change in style. This could easily apply to ATL if they don't take enough action.

I saw these allegations the day they came out and was crushed, but over the last year ive put a lot of thought into it and based on the fact that essentially no new info has come out, and that theyre willing to file a very serious lawsuit to defend themselves as opposed to just a twitter post and moving on, im really inclined to believe that theyre innocent. Ive watched ALOT of material from them, music and otherwise, and they all seem like really good guys. I can’t say I know what happened, because I don’t. It’s very hard for me because All Time Low is one of my favorite bands and has been for half my life. But I’m a survivor and I don’t ever want to silence victims. However, I do believe that people who make mistakes like this can grow and change. I know that’s controversial in cancel culture times, but I don’t think people necessarily go on to repeat their mistakes if they get the right support, hold themselves accountable, and are willing to grow and change. I don’t know if that’s the case for Jack, but I hope it is. And I hope any of these victims are getting support so they can heal their nervous systems from any trauma as well. I just hope everyone involved will be okay.
@MrOobling
@MrOobling Год назад
Innocent until proven guilty. I likewise don't want to silence victims but necessary for that is the assumption that the victim wouldn't intentionally lie. When dubious accusations such as this accusation against ATL are entertained and then proven false, it doesn't just hurt ATL but it damages public perception of the testimony of all victims. It's hard to assume the victim wouldn't lie when there are high-profile cases like this which prove that the victim sometimes does (very successfully) lie. This is why it is important to stamp down on people who falsely accuse others: make it clear that victims who lie are the exception and the vast majority are important voices who are victims of an all too normalized act. The fact that you're still acting like Jack's guilt is a forgone conclusion, despite some fairly strong evidence that the allegations were fabricated, is greatly problematic and is constitutive of the wider issue that the general public frequently doesn't trust victims.

This entire lawsuit thing pisses me off because firstly: all the punk bands back then literally had a trunk full of bras. It's not really their fault that women threw bras at them. They probably just found it funny and kept them - as most bands of that era of punk music. If they're going after ATL for that, then go after Blink and Sum 41 and even Simple Plan. Secondly: If this woman was serious in her accusations, she wouldnt have deleted her accounts and remained anonymous. Like, someone making a serious accusation of S/A and sh*t like that would come forward and say who they are, not beat around the bush. Thirdly: ATL was thrown into fame at a young age. They literally got signed before they graduated high school (started recording after they graduated). It doesnt excuse Jack's behavior but does anyone know of a boy at that age that didnt act like that? Cause I don't. It didn't help that girls were - quite literally - throwing themselves at them. All Time Low are super nice guys from what I've heard. I know someone who has met them and said they were the sweetest people ever. They're my favourite band. I cant really see why someone would go after them after so many years (especially anonymously) except for clickbait and trying to get fame. to me, i'm honestly not sure what to believe and i'm interested to see how it will play out. a lot of people saying that it's a good sign they're all taking it to court and being plaintiffs since they wouldn't put themselves on the line for something they know they're guilty of; however, i also wonder if this is also some sort of power dynamic thing where the anonymous person who made the comments likely would not have the same resources available to get good legal defense, so regardless of whether ATL/jack is guilty or not, they know that they have the legal power to sway it in their favor. another thing is that besides this one accusation, i have still seen a ton of different accusations against jack as well (moreso for sexual harassment than assault). stuff like him telling fans that they had nice boobs, and just generally inappropriate things to say to someone (especially when they were minors too). i love this band, but i wish they would at least acknowledge their general behavior in the past and how problematic/misogynistic some of it was. i hope the allegations turn out to be false, for the sake of actual SA survivors who shouldn't be invalidated by people making stuff up, and it's a disappointing situation overall

I made a comment in a video and deleted it because I didn't see this video until now and I just want to put back what I said out there. I feel like it was all just for attention. The fanbase was known for sexualizing Jack and Alex together. They threw bras on stage out of their own accord not being forced, at least from what live videos I've seen and shows I've been to. I know for a fact that if Jack was that bad of a person another band member of a band they toured with would of spoken up. Those are some huge allegations to not speak up about sooner. It took TikTok existing for people to spread false allegations. If it was that bad I'm sure someone would of spoken up before. I stopped listening to them just after future hearts because i had other things going on and just couldn't keep up with them. But I logged on twitter and saw this whole lawsuit thing, I had no idea what allegations they were talking about, still really don't know. I know there are people out there who won't change their mind because they're set in stone on believing "victims". Yeah they may of said some inappropriate things but literally Blink did the same shit back in the day, people are just taking what others say literally now. Jack may be a party animal and what not but for him to be that severely atrocious towards young girls would of been brought up WAY earlier. I see comments of people saying bad experiences but in reality if that was true where is the proof, actual fans seem to have had good interactions with them. Usually the ones that dislike a band already usually say they had a bad interaction. Unless the person is known for being an asshole I don't believe anyone saying they had a sour interaction.

I honestly hope that everyone involved can come to an understanding & things can be resolved peacefully because if it's a case of misunderstandings, the girl being creeped out by some things at the time & only speaking out now, or thinking back on things & thinking things weren't as great as she used to think. Hopefully it's just a case of misunderstanding or misremembering. I'll say this, though, it's not a tale of possible sexual harassment, but one of just confusion. Back in 2017, I had laid some criticisms to Alex on Twitter about Last Young Renegade (I also was kinda dickish about it, admittedly, looking back & I remember being a bit mad at the time). Alex responded not really understanding the criticisms, or thinking they weren't valid, then a BUNCH of ATL fangirls started responding to me. I asked Alex if he could get them to stop, he said everything was cool, but didn't do anything to stop them. Really left a sour taste in my mouth. He doesn't really seem to respond to criticism well unless they're self-criticisms.

I hope for the sake of everyone involved that the allegations are false. The details added on at the end seem a bit fishy, and I don't think they'd be putting all 4 of their names on it if it's true. If it is true, I hope the jane doe gets closure/restitution, but even in their old interviews, they're always so grateful for their fans. Maybe they had me fooled, but I don't think the allegations are true.

It’s never okay to call a victim a liar because you don’t have any proof they are lying, but you also shouldn’t believe them without proof. So keep your opinions up in the air and treat the victim with respect and kindness in the event that it is true. In general, hard evidence can be hard to obtain. But often when the victim makes statements with lots of details of time and location that prove to be accurate it can be a sort of anecdotal evidence. In this case, their claims were found to not be lining up correctly. Also very often friends or family of the liar will come out and expose them for lying, which also happened. Men tend to believe it’s soo hard to tell when someone is lying, but it’s really not. It’s veryy easy to find holes in a story, and the liar often gets scared of being sued. A true victim isn’t scared because they know their story will be consistent

This is a tough one for me because I've been a fan for years, I met them years ago at a show and they were complete gentlemen. I don't want to believe that it's true and honestly there are parts to this whole thing that don't make sense to me. "They got her friends phone number and pranked her for months" how would they have just randomly gotten a fans phone number? The bras seem gross in hindsight but for decades throwing a bra onstage at a rock show was pretty normal. ATL made it a gag because people kept doing it and I personally have never been bothered by it. It's not like they were going around tearing bras off teens. This whole thing seems fishy, it all came out when Dear Maria was blowing up on tiktok and the way they decided to persue legal action straight away makes me think it isn't true. I think either way this is going to do damage to people who want to come forward about these types of things
@thomasleongeorgerobertglad7560

while i’m still in the middle ground of this situation, i would like to bring up the fact that jack barakat did date actress abigail breslin when she was 17 and he was 25 back in 2013. i’m not sure for how long, but it’s something i feel people don’t talk about, regardless. from articles i’ve read, he didn’t want to “flaunt their relationship publicly” and is very telling.

they wouldn't kick their childhood friend (they were like 15 when their band was formed) over an allegation (esp if they know it's not true) just to satisfy "fans" who are telling them to do so. they (the bandmates and coworkers for years) know jack way better than us so why should they listen? i'm not the kind of person to dismiss SA claims but let's be honest here, we also had our fair share of false claims.

The lawsuits tricky though, doesn't mean they're innocent, just means that ATL don't believe there is evidence there. Having evidence which stands up in court relating to S/A is hard, especially with it being so historic. Really don't want to believe that its true, they've been such an important part of my life since I was 12/13 - but I also understand that the lawsuit realistically doesn't prove a thing, but could be dangerous for victims in the future. If they were truly innocent then they wouldn't feel the need to file a lawsuit. They would just simply ignore the allegations. This makes them look more gulity in my eyes. The fact that all 4 of them are in on this means that i think that a LOT more is gonna come out about them.

@0verjoyed_ac Год назад
I kinda feel both ways on that. MOST of me thinks they wouldn't file a lawsuit and put so much on the line unless they knew they were totally innocent. But the devil's advocate part of me thinks they would indeed file a lawsuit if they knew they were guilty because they're aware that some random person on social media probably doesn't have either a) the guts to come forward or b) the legal and financial means necessary to come forward ? A lawsuit opens the four of them up to so much more legal (and social) scrutiny, so I'm leaning more towards the first option, that they must know they're innocent. But it just seems so brash in a way... I can't be sure. I think it's ridiculous to believe that filing a lawsuit makes them look more guilty, though. That's like telling the police they have permission to search your car just for funsies when you know you have a ton of crack in it.

Does that mean that Johnyy Depp is really guilty? That they respond this way kinda shows that they know there isn't much evidence to backup these allegations, probably because they are false. Oh boy, I have some serious problems: -How do we know said TikToker was talking about ATL? "Famous pop punk band" is very general with how many famous pop punk bands have been accused of such things -Why is TWITTER being ordered to identify someone???? Under no circumstances should Twitter be in charge of that what the absolute fuck?? -Maybe I just don't know enough about ATL but I don't get how what she said implied that it was ATL, again, it sounds like stuff a myriad of other pop punk bands have done so it doesn't narrow it down Idk, I'm just gonna wait and see what happens. I feel like there's not enough evidence to pin this on ATL and again, maybe I don't know enough about them but I really feel like the TikToker was talking about someone else. I also really don't like how Twitter is being asked to identify her. Guilty or not, a social media site should not be ordered to identify someone in a court case.
