@@Kijinn Because it takes time to come up with the things they want/are allowed to do, do all those things, do the paperwork for those things (like, you know, agreeing to let a stranger put needles in your body), record all those things, make cuts so the episodes are not 4 hours long, invite quests, find a time frame for those things and edit it all. In other words: A lot of stuff behind the scenes.

Pretty sad to see they gave such a charlatan a podium. What's next someone reading their aura, or tea-leaves, or star-signs, or meridian lines? These people aren't applying a skill; they're either lying or mentally ill. Sure there have been some studies that gave some merit to acupuncture in the treatment of chronic pain and depression, but how do they compare to other treatments we've got? And it sure as hell doesn't work because of 'chakras' or the 'moving of energy', if anything I'd guess it has to do with poking some nerves to 'trick' the brain in to making the chemicals it would normally only produce with more severe trauma.

@@deltav864 Exactly that. Endorphins are released under stress to provide calmness for the person, so they can hopefully survive. If the person exits the stressful situation and the endorphins are still in the body, it also acts as a reward for not having died, providing a "high" for a time. Acupuncture works by stimulating the release of endorphins, providing the high without any of the stress or danger. It does provide euphoria, calmness and relief from pain, however im not sure how it compares to other treatments.

The idea behind detoxing makes sense, I guess that's why people believe in it. I mean, you take in something that's supposed to help your body deal with stuff that's bad for you. That just sounds like medication. Problem is it's never really specified what it is that's bad for you and why your body needs help dealing with it and how the stuff you ingest helps with that. And that's why detox isn't medication, even though it sounds just like it.

The needles have a plastic guide (which he only sometimes uses apparently) and you only ever touch the coils at the top. None of the needle that goes into your skin gets touched. Not necessarily justifying acupuncture or cupping but the practice is hygienic, it’s the same in dry needling.

If it wasn't a treatment then the only things I can imagine would be torture (seems very unlikely), perhaps an elaborate sex/porn thing (also seems very unlikely, especially given the context of the conversation and her tone), I may have misheard, or it refers to something else that doesn't necessarily have any direct correlation to actual meathooks (such as a massage technique). What do you think?

A big misconception with acupuncture is that they’re jamming in the same needles they use to draw blood. Those needles are actually way bigger, because they have to be hollow to allow blood to pass through. Acupuncture needles are smaller than a sewing needle, and don’t have a sharp stabbing point either. I just goggled it, and apparently you can fit 20 acupuncture needles into one medical syringe. What you end up feeling is usually not the needle going in, but rather the needle hitting whatever nerve they are trying to stimulate. Some people feel “a dull pain” but I just felt a tingling, like a pleasant version of hitting your funny bone. If you’ve got muscle or joint pain, I’d say don’t knock it till you try it. 😁
