In this video I take a beat-up looking Allen Edmonds belt I thrifted, and bring it back to almost new looking condition simply by treating it with leather lotions and polish.
Here are other videos I referenced:

Although this video is about Brogues, there is a good section at the end about corrected grain vs full grain leather:

I Just crossed 3000 subscribers! THANK YOU all! When I started this I had absolutely no goal for number of views or subscribers, I just had ideas in my head and a desire in my heart to share them. @@marions7423 great idea. I just shy away from it because it just doesn’t personally appeal to me as much. I’ll have to do my research to increase my knowledge first! Thanks for watching.

Robert, you are a true professional and have a channel I use when seeking quality opinions or insight in treating my shoes and now leather belts. You provide an outstanding service to us when looking to improve our individual shoe collection or update our choice of shoes, as in my case. I have been moving over to Allen Edmonds recently as the Bostonian and Johnston and Murphy companies no longer offer quality-made shoes due to moving their shoe-making out of the U.S. Thank you for supporting us gentlemen selling knowledge of shoes and now belts.

Nice video Robert! It’s amazing how you dramatically improved upon the look and appearance of the Thrift Store Allen Edmond’s leather belt. As you well know, Allen Edmonds leather belts sell for well over $100. I just purchased a couple of AE belts and your refurbished belt looks as nice as my new belts. Great job and thanks for sharing the info!

Thank you that was really helpful. I tried some Bick's leather conditioner on an Allen Edmond's belt and that made things 90% better. Followed up with the Saphir beaute du cuir which I guess is their less expensive polish. Still the results were impressive. I will have to add this to my routine maintenance.

Cool vid my man. I still need to get some Saphir. I hear it’s great. I actually use a paintbrush tipped sharpie on the AE chili belts. What you do is take the regular brown and fill in the scratches. The trick is before the sharpie ink has a chance to dry, you take your finger and rub it blending the ink into the leather. Sharpie paintbrush tipped markers are great for spot dying leather but you have to remember to blend/rub or it will just look like someone marked your leather with a sharpie. Best of luck.

Fantastic video. I'm a newer subscriber so forgive me if I missed it, but do you have any videos on suede? I'm trying to restore a pair of black suede Gucci loafers and some spots on the suede won't renap.

Nicholas Casale - thank you... no, I’m sorry really don’t have much on suede other than the “Shoe Showcase: Mezlans! Woven Oxfords shine & Suede Rovigos” video, but even that video really has nothing on restoring the suede nap. I’m sorry, it’s something I haven’t really dealt with yet.

Great results Robert! I do have a question for you though. For nourishing leather shoes, do you prefer the Tanner's Blend or Saphir Renovateur, and why? It doesn't break the bank for trying both, but I don't have enough pair of shoes to justify having 10 different leather lotions sitting around. Anyways thank you for your videos. Learned and enjoyed a lot, and I recently bought my first pair of Allen Edmonds!
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 5 лет назад
M Legend - you may want to check out my “leather talk“ videos. I struggle with that as well. I just got the Renovateur recently, and shortly after Phil from Ashland sent me Tanners Blend, so I’m using both. Sometimes one, sometimes the other, sometimes both on the same product as here. I’m experimenting and gathering data. On one hand, Saphir Renovateur is spoken very highly of by many of the best shoemakers, cobblers, and polishers in the world, but Tanners Blend is according to Phil Kalas, who owns Ashland leather company, and also WORKS at Horween Leather company, is the actual compound they use on leather they produce at the Horween tannery. The Saphir is definitely thicker viscosity than the Tanners Blend, so that is slightly more appealing to me. Although the Tanners blend feels like it might penetrate into the leather deeper, and that is attractive to me. So… I don’t know!! So I really definitively cannot say which one is better. But here is my major belief, I think you’re going to get 80% of the benefit by using SOMETHING on some REGULAR schedule. I think the last 10 or 20% of the benefit is by getting the best product. I think we honestly sometimes spend too much time effort and energy arguing about which product is best. It’s like when I was in Katate, people would argue whether Karate is a better form of self-defense, or kung fu is or boxing. Just learning to fight is probably going to save your butt more than whether you fought the attacker back with kung fu or boxing. Make sense?

You are reviving a dyeing art, one pair of shoes at a time! (It’s about time someone put up A 🖕 to throw away culture! Kudos my friend!)

I think they should use the leather they used on the inside on the out, it looks mint! I would thing the inside would have more wear as it’s directly next to the fabric rubbing all the time.

ianmedium - that’s an interesting point 🤔 although the exterior is going bump up against sharp objects and abrasion.

Just wondering I know you love Allen Edmonds shoes but you don't use Allen Edmonds stuff for shoes like shoe polish and other stuff
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 5 лет назад
Lucky Strike - I do have Allen Edmonds Oxblood shoe polish for my McAllisters... I guess the simple answer is because almost all of the high end shoemakers, polishers, and cobblers say that Saphir polishes are the best, and when I tried them I fell in love.

Would the brown cream polish “transfer” or “stain” your shirt or pants afterwards? Thanks !
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 4 года назад
I’ve never had that problem. Just make sure you don’t use too too much polish, make sure you brush the leather well, and I’d let it sit at least overnight before wearing to be sure.

Isnt saphire just expensive conditioner?
@CobblerBob
@CobblerBob 4 года назад
June R - Saphir makes a lot of different leather and shoe care products like conditioners, cream polishes (thinner than paste wax, heavy in pigment, deeper leather penetration but fuller shine) as well as paste waxes and special harder waxes for mirror shines. Check out www.hangerproject.com.

I'm not a expert but shouldn't you have gone cleaner, then color, then saphire? P.S. This channel is mostly for classic mens style. Your music should reflect that (aka. no electronic pop or latin music.) It clashes with what you are doing.
