This happened to me as well when the nails starting pulling away from the beds it would hurt to run my fingers through my hair. I have NEVER had this happen until I used poly gel and hard gel with tips. The tips of my fingers were swollen, red, itchy and I had hardened skin on the tips that started peeling. It was painful and gross. The first thing I did was remove all gel product, then I purchased a paraffin bath with paraffin wax and treated just my fingertips for seven days straight for at least 20 minutes every morning. After a few hours I applied a nail fungus product that is basically tea tree and oregano essential oils. I put that on my fingertips and under the nails again for seven days and let it dry on my skin for about 10 minutes before doing anything else. Then for the rest of the day I would rub an unscented cocoa butter lotion on them as much as I needed. After those seven days I switched to OPI’s Repair Mode twice a day, that stuff is a miracle! My nails started looking better and the bumpiness starting to even out after 4 days and they started to grow naturally again. I did a lot of research about how to apply tips without using gel. I found an amazing product from Dashing Diva it’s their gel adhesive glue that does not need to be cured but is thick like a gel and very easy to use. I have tried it with acrylic tips and no itchy, red, peeling or swollen fingers. I am going to try this glue with gel tips next since I have so many now and see what happens. I feel like you definitely had a gel reaction. Be careful and good luck.
This sounds so painful and hopefully you’ll get answers soon. Contact dermatitis is basically a guarantee when gel isn’t fully cured. Its not an if you’ll have an allergic reaction but a when. Maybe this is part of it? UV lights should also have reflective bottoms (foil will work if your lamp doesn’t) to make sure the nails fully cure. There’s a trend of girls using gel under press ons and this is going to be much more common so I’d research if anyone else has had similar issues.
Surprising enough, the nail portion lifting isn't painful at all it just feels super tight and try like I dipped my fingers in glue-- It's a strange feeling. I just read this about gel not fully curing, I had no idea. I always do a little tap tap before going to the next step but now I see why it seems that every gel brand have their own light... to assure cured. My light does have a reflective bottom I'M SCREAMING CAUSE I JUST NOTICED THE BLUE PLASTIC COVERING THE REFLECTOR and I just peeled it off......literally after years *cryinggggggggg* I get it now... @@brosiaaa omg! I threw mine away because I thought it was a “spare piece” of packaging. Luckily I’m lazy and inconsistent when it comes to doing my nails. I recently found out about the foil and dermatitis so I’m committing to doing more research about chemicals I’m putting on my body 🙄 like duh
This was happening to me! Turns out I’m allergic to gel polish. I has have itchy hands the tips of my fingers would be really hard cracking and some oozing.
I tried young nails and it wasn’t as bad, but found out the protein bond had hema…so no go. Tired of irritate cuticles areas…I started using dip…omg…love it so far….easy and no discomfort whatsoever and holds up great for me. On two weeks now. …pretty easy to remove…no worse than gel or acrylic…probably easier in my opinion.
I've had a similar issue since this spring. Every time I use gel polish or nail glue, my cuticles get super inflamed and itchy. It's my fingernails and toenails. My nails also lifted, almost completely. They'll start itching within 24 hours of application. If I don't remove it immediately, my cuticles bleed and continue to itch and sometimes pus. I can only use adhesive stickers now. I've also tried going to urgent care, my pcp, and an allergist. Still no diagnosis! Good luck to you!
With so many nasty chemicals in gel and acrylic products combined with use of led/uv lamps, it's little wonder that so many of us have had allergic reactions (some very severe). The itching above my cuticles along with the clear fluid blisters brought me to tears at one point. Tried 3 times to let my nails rest in between and each time I applied the nails with gel products, the same result happened. Now I use the sticky tabs combined with glue. Are they as good? of course not but they are a viable alternative and bring me back some self confidence when I see my nails polished and looking good. I use my vast supply of gel polishes on the blank nails, cure them and then apply to my natural nails. So far, so good. Hope you figure out your issue and can find an alternative. Girls need to feel good about themselves and nails are part of that.
I’m happy you’re getting checked out I would also suggest niaouli oil as it has similar medicinal benefits to tree tree oil. It truly helps to purify the skin. I hope you heal better sis❤
Its contact dermatitis. You are allergic to the gel and the dust from the gel. I have the same thing. My nails are lifting up from the nail bed. I have to stop doing nails for a while. (Licensed nail technician of 12 years)
I have the same problem. My dermatologist said it's Eczema. I'm allergic to the gel and powder. I used to get my nails done all the time. Now I can't wear acrylic or gel. Even things like hand sanitizer triggers mine. I just use soap and water along with CeraVe lotions for the dryness. My feet does the same thing as well. I hope it gets better for you.
I’m having a mild contact dermatitis, my cuticles are inflamed after gel nails, no itchiness. how did you determine yours was a fungal infection versus a gel allergy?
I use to get my nails done every two weeks for years and years and never had a problem. Now i do my nails for the last three years which I love doing and invested a lot of money into it. The last three times I’ve done my nails My fingers have started itching now they’re swollen and they hurt so bad. I took my nails off immediately and I’m so frustrated!
Same exact thing here. I’m in so much pain it’s ridiculous and the skin around “opened up” in painful cracks and some nails are little lifting (as in my actual nails) on the bottom near the tip. What did you use for yours and how long did it take to get better? 😣 Edit: spelling

I am allergic to ALL nail adhesives besides gel polish. It’s so interesting that you’re allergic to gel. What’s really in these products? 🤔 my nails would get horribly itchy and painful. They’d crack and blister and my nail would lift off the nail bed. They’d be all oozy and crusty it was so bad but I dealt with it for the beauty aspect of having cute nails. I have eczema so I thought it was just a reaction but once I took a break from getting dip nails, my reaction went away. And that’s when I realized it was the dip nails. The same things happens with acrylic and even just regular nail glue. I can’t wear any nail extension unless I attach it with gel and a uv lamp. But that’s too much work lol I wish I could just glue and go 😢
Omggggggggg. I’ve found my ppl. I’ve dealt with eczema my whole life. And now that I am approaching 30, my skin is now having more issues. I just developed a gel allergy. My symptoms are similar to a burn on all of my finger. Itchy, discoloration, skin cracking and me bleeding from the rips. Being unable to button my clothes, putting on shapewear, etc. I was prescribed a cream but…it does nothing. What helped was hot acv finger baths, honey and aloe Vera. I’m going to try alternatives. I miss my nails lol
This is so interesting! I’m dealing with this now on my nails (2 nails specifically) and feet. Never experienced this before. But like you mentioned, it’s something that has come u recently. I’ve been trying everything to help it and wondered if I need to go to a dermatologist.
Its definitely worth visiting a dermatologists to be on the safe side. I've started applying tea tree oil and taking pictures of the nails daily to document progress.
@@brosiaaa It's a Hema allergy. Been there done that. I'm finally on the very rounding edge of growing out the rest of my nails.. haven't had tips on for almost a year. You need a steroid cream. To calm everything down. Light elegance. Excellent company. The husband is a chemist. Their products are Hema and 9 or a total of nine allergenic things that can be in nails. Such as formaldehyde. You have to let your nails heal. Oil them everyday. Take care of them and just grow them out. Too bad they don't sell this nail oil anymore. IBD reconstrucx My goodness this stuff is awesome. Makes you grow back your nails super fast. Super nice. Super healthy.. I would not apply anything. Not even regular nail polish. Thing is is that you're in, ""an active allergy"" any products that you put on at this time. Can cause more allergenic reaction. So it is best not to put anything on. I am fighting myself. Trust me. I have the non-allergenic stuff to do my nails. I am ready and waiting. I could have Christmas nails done. But, my dermatologist states let it grow. Let that grow out. Completely keep doing what you're doing. I only used the steroid cream for a week to create the flare and itchiness of my fingers to calm down. Did not peel off the dry skin. She warned me just like a burn. That's exactly what happened. If you look you may have little bumps and bubbles around the edges of your cuticles. And underneath your finger that dryness. It's like a chemical burn. Do not peel back that very dry skin until it starts going on its own. Just like you wouldn't pop the skin on a burn... Hydrate hydrate take care of those nails. And allow that whole nail from the very base all the way to the top grow out.. and just like my derma said. It's going to take probably a full year for your nails to heal. I will probably be doing them around February March and March is whenever I quit. And that's probably whenever they're going to be completely and fully grown up. Cuz I don't have very far to go.. There are so many chemicals within gel products. We are screwed. We have a deal with China and we get in tons of Chinese products. As a matter of fact China rules over our nail industry. I can't even go out and get a license with a gel product that I have no physical reactions to. And I know that if I were to invest in this this would be something much safer on my clients. I can't even get a license with non-allergenic product. It's all Chinese crap. It infuriates me. Severely. And they tell you just wear gloves. I don't think so. Nope. Having a drill and using your gloves can be a dangerous thing. No.. And if I were to do nails that's all I would do I'm sorry I'm not doing people's feet. No thanks no how. Would never want to. But I can do nails... After my allergy. I figured it out. Could totally do it. But was still having, peeling. Dryness. And my derma was like, let it all grow out. Take that off before you start getting an allergy to it. And I can do so long quality beautiful nails. Shame my nail tech let go of me. I'm a Virgo. I'm very meticulous. I gave her the option to learn with the new product. To frightened I was like if you get me to learn how to do this you're going to lose me. Oh she lost me. My first set, was so easy. I was like wow. Did not get reactive at all to light elegance but I like that my derma said take them off before you start developing an allergy allow all of that to grow out. I'm telling you one year. Take them off. I did and well my nails are beautiful. My fingers are beautiful. You would never know except for if you look up closer like hey wait. You got some pitting on the end of your nails.. yep that's where I had my psoriasis. My derma looked right at it and was like yep that's psoriasis nail allergy. She started explaining how terrible the market is for our nails and how dangerous it is here in America. Light elegance is a wonderful product. And they have a few different styles of gel and applications but I had no severe allergy with it. My derma was like your nails need to rest. I know you love them and they make your fingers look pretty but since you developed an allergy. Let it grow let it relieve itself and work its way out of your system. Also detox. Folate and B12 is detoxing. Some of us can't methylate properly. Hi I'm not individual I have MTHFR SNP gene mutations. Anyone with a deeper melanin has a higher chance of having these gene mutations... My grandmother is North African. Never judge a book on its cover. Especially today. The world has become a melting pot for a lot of us.. The best folate and B12 does not come from a vegan sauce. Absolutely not. If you don't like beef liver and you're not going to eat it all the time. Luckily we have it freeze dried and capsuled. That is your best B12 and folate. As well as CoQ10 which is food for your muscles. The one muscle that never stops your heart. Zinc. The proper copper. Cooper's copper. It actually has one extra electron. It's called copper1. Bioavailable. From beef liver. It will help you methylate and pull those toxins out of your system. Key when having an allergic reaction. That's because the toxin is building up in your cells. 40 to 60% of the population globally can't methylate properly. SNP gene mutation is real. Check out MTHFR methylation.. I agreed with my derma because, I actually have to take things for methylation. And I don't always do. Haha 😆 I was like Oh my gosh that makes so much sense duh, serious facepalm. Keep away from products keep oiling those nails and let them grow out. My hands and my cuticles are night and day. Helping remove those toxins. So that if I do put something on. I found out I have contact dermatitis (to gel, Methyl acrylate) when I was in nail school! Itching, cracking, bleeding skin. My thumb was so swollen , it looked like a toe. I haven’t attempted to use it again since it cleared up, it took months! 😢
I recently switched to all gel products because I had a baby and my son has allergies so I had to stop using monomer. That stuff stinks and it’s hard to filter it out of my nail room and not get it all through the house. I’ve read that it’s the HEMA in the products that causes the problem. I’d do my research and seek help from a dermatologist. You can find HEMA free products though.
A dermatologist can do a patch test on chemicals that are common in products that make us women pretty and colorful. I'm happy that now there are more vegan and clean products available to choose from.
Not a matter of if you will developer an allergy, but when. I got one to both acrylic then Gel after only a few months. Even though my tech seemed to be being careful you still don’t know what is I’m their products or if they change them…can’t use any of it…be careful girls. You will develop this. It just a matter of how bad. Mine took a full year to get my nails and cuticle area to look normal.
I had had to go to a dermatologist some time ago due to that lifting of my nail, after using acrylic nail glue. I was diagnosed with dyshidrotic eczema. It causes severe itching small blisters that itch really bad until i would pop them, and dryness. It comes from moisture being trapped around the nails and nail beds. I had to use a steroidal topical ointment. Recently i got into gel nails and some of the products caused this again. It sounds like that may be what yoy may have experienced, when u took the gel off firsr thing i thought was looks like moisture being trapped around the nail bed. I did have this on my toes/feet once.
