In this video you will see just how well a "CA" can handle a 3 bottom plow. The plow is a #50 series with 14" bottoms.

Great vid. Plowed my dedicated WD45 snap coupler plow I believe model Wd53 plow. I was restoring my WD45 to be done by Feb-March this year and guess what, totally blew my deadline and had no 45hp tractor for planting season, plowing, discing and planting. I wasn’t worried about harrow/discing as my disc is 8’ And even though the CA 125 ci e gone likes 6’ I’ve pulled 6’ disc and 8’ disc and harrows no issues. Late March comes and I need to have all My equipment ready and I figured I was stuck using my 1 bottom for the ca that I had for my AC b but wrong hitch and nightmare rigging job and the traction boost would be non usable but that was a non issue with a 1 bottom and a C/CA. I hooked up my 53 3 bottom plow and it went on effortlessly and looked amazing. Better than she did on the WD45. I’m in New England so rocky soil but my fields are pretty rock free after years of picking approx 20-25 acres also the soil is manure and compost amended yearly. I picked my usually spot and dropped the plow and waited as I eased my clutch in 2nd and at 3/4 then full throttle or just shy off she was ripping 2021 ground without a hiccup. I was shocked but not surprised. The governor barked a few times and it was a bumpy ride but she was trailing her furrows, had the width on the CA set right and she chugged along. I did 5 acres in around 3 hours going approximately 3.5-5 mph varying between 2nd and 3rd and headed back to refuel and check my oil, coolant and hydraulics and overall the tractor. Tractor looked fine. Fluids were intact no leaks coolant was fine and temp never went midway through green. Even checked the plugs and they were clean as heck a sure sign they were under load and working and my fuel mixture was spot on. Overall I was shocked and over the next few days I did all 25 acres including harrowing them. Don’t judge the CA because it has same motor as later Bs and all Cs. It has different Governor springs I assume a better tuned and jetted carb as well as better gearing. My CA and B almost feel like different machine engine wise.

Did your hand clutch come from the factory on the left side of the tractor or did you switch it over? Great video..thanks for posting!
@The1952caallis
@The1952caallis 4 года назад
The hand clutch was on the right side. I was fortunate to find the right part to switch it to the left. On the CA the clutch feels easier to use on the left do to the All-crops and Rotobalers having the pickups on left side.

Yes, the “CA” does have a hand clutch and the weight is around 2800-3000 lbs.

Is that a stock engine? How can that little tractor pull a three bottom plow?
@The1952caallis
@The1952caallis 3 года назад
When the engine was rebuilt 20yrs ago a 1/6” overbore kit was used. This kit raised the hp from 26 to 29 hp. So not much over stock. The 50-80 series Allis plows only require about 8-10 hp per bottom. The key is to have the tractor and plow setup correctly so draft is as low as possible. The other 3 factors are power, traction and soil type. This tractor can pull a 3 bottom in this soil type, but it may not in clay or gumbo type soils. If you’re familiar with Allis tractors, you probably know that the WC is physically bigger than the CA with less hp, and the WD only has about 5 more hp over the CA. So, the CA falls right between a 2 & 3 plow tractor. I hope this answers your questions. If not please keep asking.

@@The1952caallis Am familliar with AC just have not seen a CA rigged out for heavy tillage.
@The1952caallis
@The1952caallis 3 года назад
Glen Irwin the only thing that needs to be done for heavy tillage is adding fluid to the rear tires and make sure that the traction booster is setup and working. All the extra weights I have on the CA is just me accessorizing!

Hunter Jacobs if the plow has the standard coulters, just take the pivoting or axel bolt out. Then take out the three bolts that hold the coulter to the hub.

I just acquired my brother in law’s CA with an aftermarket 3 point. My wife has a WD45 with diamond tread tires and it spins easy pulling our 3 bottom plow. The transmission shifter is stuck from sitting. My thoughts are to fill it to the brim with old oil and let it sit for the winter (Inside for a change), then drain and refill it. I’m looking forward to getting her fired up for the first time in years and using it instead of it sitting idle!

why is a CA your tractor of choice ? You do some big work
@The1952caallis
@The1952caallis 2 года назад
The CA easily handles every task that I need done. It’s physical size is smaller than it’s bigger brother the WD, however the CA can run right along with it. It uses less fuel than the WD but does about the same amount of work. It has all the same features as the WD as well. The CA is very easy to use and handle. It’s fun to use! The cost to purchase, run and maintain these older tractors are far less than the newer ones today and the older tractors will out last their newer counterparts. I hope that I have answered your question. I hope that people watching my videos get a good understanding of just how much work smaller tractors can do.

I have a B and love it “but” with only a 3 speed and no live pto I feel it’s a little less usable. I do agree that older tractors will outlast and outperform today’s tractors. The simplicity of the older tractors is a huge part of their value. Have you done any engine work to your CA ? It seems to perform exceptionally well for its size. I think the B and CA have the same size engine just a difference in how through compression and RPM it seems. I do want to learn more about Allis Chalmers ,growing up on John Deere. I cannot get my carburetor just right. I have had it apart 6-8 times and it still likes the choke out 1/4-1/2” to run it’s best. Are there any different jets to try ? Thank you for all of your answers and I enjoy all of your videos.
