Y O U W O N !! Please celebrate that. It is so easy for everyone else to judge your experience from a couch or from home. You out lasted everyone else that made choices that were differently than yours. You knew the prize, the goal, the game. And yes, it was a game with a prize. You just out smarted everyone with each and every calculated decision that you made. BE PROUD!!! Many of us are for you. Everyone else who hunted more, build a larger or different shelter, ended up using that radio each of you were provided to tap out. People need to learn to be kind and simply celebrate you. Prayers for you and your family. FELICIDADES🎉
It was a brilliant victory, I have to say, because it maximized his physical abilities-- and perhaps his youth?-- relative to the other contestants. My question is about fasting-- is it better to straight-up fast than get little bits of food every couple days? Does it condition the body to need less somehow? It sounds like the water compensates for a lot of needs...
I have been really critical about alone winners that have been far and solely won the show because they outlasted everyone else because they came in 60-80 pounds over weight. What Juan did was totally different and I actually was rooting for him to win. He put in alot of effort to fish and hunt and when he saw that it was wasting more calories and energy then it was giving he made a decision to not waste time and effort. His ability to hold out after that was amazing and he should be proud of his accomplishments.
You were our favorite. Some people are upset because you decided to fast. But the truth is that you were thinking outside of the box. Instead of hunting bear, you became the bear. That’s very smart. 😊
He's right- "passive" is also survival. Proven by nature the dormancy of plants and trees during winter, the hibernation of bears etc. bravo Juan Pablo!
GREAT JOB JUAN PABLO!! Just finished watching and your approach was extremely smart. Ignore all those stupid negative comments. You are an inspiration to everyone watching especially your mindset and metal strength. Congratulations on winning and your engagement!!!
Juan was amazing. I thought he was a genius deciding to fast. He deserved to win, so glad he did. Much respect. He outsmarted everyone! So humble too. The mean comments aren't even worth answering. He won! By smarts and skill, and toughness. Yay Juan! From New Zealand
He’s win was definitely different than other winners that solely survived on extra fat. He put in effort fishing and hunting and when he saw it wasn’t worth it he made a decision to not waste energy on something that wasn’t giving him anything in return. His ability to stay mentally strong and also his ability to survive is impressive. Who cares what people say he was a worthy winner.
Just finished the finale of season 9 & just wanted to say we were rooting for you the whole time!! So proud of you! Wishing you and your partner a beautiful life! Lots of love and blessings from NM!!
People writing in to tell the man who outlasted nine survival experts in an arctic environment that "you did it all wrong"...massive facepalm. We just finished watching season 9, I thought for sure Juan Pablo was doomed when he decided not to boil his water; thought so again when he decided 'who needs a fire anyway?'; and AGAIN when he chose to give up on the whole food thing and just fast. I was wrong every time. Amazing performance! Well done!
Many who watch these shows are gear obsessed, having gorged on RU-vid survival videos from the comfort of their sofas. Your minimalist approach, rooted in deep thinking and an understanding of the challenge, as well as a willingness to take a calculated risk, leave the gearheads bereft. They would shop their way to success, you did it through intellect and focus. Really inspiring.
I just wanted to take a second to say thank you very much for your book. I was recently in a situation that could have possibly turned out very bad, I took a "rest day" and started reading your book. I got to the chapter on "Mindset" .. and let me tell you, after reading that and really taking it in I realized that I put myself there, no one is coming to help and I have no choice. My new Mantra is "J.P. says I've got more". I just wanted you to know how thankful I am for all you have done and taught me and that you are greatly appreciated and have literally saved my life. Thank you, Rob
@@jpqsmex They are doing better. the physical challenges I faced getting out of the park actually helped strengthen them so my physio isn't as intense lol
Congrats man! I think you showed the unsexy sides of survival like the calculated risks of saving energy by not boiling water or gathering wood and not everyone appreciated that. A little like Bear Grylls. Also how much thought you put into your strategy and stay consistent and true to it. Really enjoyed watching you and Temoujin!
Great job Juan! My wife is Latina and you've inspired her to get into nature. I thought it was so cool that you were the first contestant that didn't have to boil water to drink it. I also thought you were the most balanced with being active and passive. It was a lot of fun watching you, we were rooting for you the whole time. My wife was so touched she cried when you were reunited with your partner! Job well done!
I just finished your season, and I am SO proud of you! You will always get haters when you're a big winner. It's just the world we live in unfortunately. It was fascinating watching your methods and ideaolgy. You had a plan, you carried it out, you suffered, you overcame, you did FAR more than any of these nasty negative haters could ever do out there. There's no way for you to even articulate everything you went through, but I appreciate you coming on and sharing your experiences and life with us. Thank you, and God bless. Sending support from Seattle!
Your resilience was beyond inspiring. Congratulations on winning, you absolutely deserved it. I hope everything is continuing to go well for you. Keep ignoring the haters.
I was so inspired by not only your victory but your intellect and strategy. At the end of the day, it's not just "survival," it was a competition, and clearly your strategy was the best. Felicidades!!!
Why are you wasting time worrying about what the haters write. You’re strategy was the right strategy because YOU WON! There is more than one way to skin a rabbit. Everyone is welcome to their opinion but their opinion on your life means less than nothing. Congratulations 😀🎉
Screw all those people that doubt how you won. You read the situation you were in and adapted. That’s what you’re supposed to do in a survival scenario. Congratulations to you and Jennifer!!
A huge congratulations! I just finished Season 9 and I was rooting for you from the start. Being the first Latino to win is a huge accomplishment! It definitely was an emotional ending and I could only imagine what you were feeling when you got to see your “partner” after having no contact with her for over 70 days. Wishing you many blessings in your future.
Hola Juan Pablo!!!! Felicidades en ganar Alone. I wanted to let you know that as a fellow paisana Mexicana..me da mucho orgullo que hallas ganado. Your creative and genius mind created a path for success. I like your approach and philosophy. 👏👏👏👏
JP your strategy proved brilliant but I think your mental fortitude was the main factor. It is not for chance that Karie Lee, the second runner went that far, despite having little food. She had a positive attitude all the time as well.
That was great strategy , the fishing pier was so cool, absolutely amazing job man, congrats from San Diego CA Gracias por inspirar a toda la comunidad Latina de cazadores, pescadores y a los que nos encanta acampar y la naturaleza!
Thank you so much for your dedication and strategy for survival. With the world in constant danger of societal collapse, I moved my family out of the desert, and into the east woods of KY. We are up to 4 beautiful babies, 1 girl and 3 boys! All under 4 is really tough, especially on mom, but I believe that they will love having someone to play with. I have been loving the weather, the start of homesteading, farming, and stewardship. I truly hope that you and your amazing girl start a great family together, and again I wish you all the best!!!
You are amazing!!! You did such a great job! It was so sweet to see your last day out there when you saw your girlfriend again and please don't waste your time with the hateful comments some people made.
So happy you won. There are so many contestants that I wish could win in all the seasons but I was so impressed with your mentality. I kept expecting you to jump up and start ice fishing at any moment you seemed to be playing such a long strategy.
Can’t stand these negative comments. A man was in the cold for waaaay longer than these keyboard survivalists. Strategy won. Working smarter not harder won. Helllo?! Get the f@ck over it. Hater a$$ people… prob some Jan 6 type folks hating on a POC winning. “I said what I said.”- Nene Leakes
especially this kevin hart jerk. he is ridiculous. it's just laughable seeing someone try to outdo this young man with strategies he just doesn't need any longer. he already won. he got paid. period. these haters are acting like toddlers.
So annoying how many hater comments you got from ignorant people. Your strategy was genius and most people couldn't have pulled it off and wouldn't have thought of it.
It sucks you have to address the haters Juan, I thought you did an awesome job, and loved the way you approached the competition both from a winning and survival perspective. You really read that passive active spectrum right and put the energy in where it counted. Lot of the people just want that 100% active role, because they feel like you can force nature to comply with your will, and it's just not the case. The no fire strategy was MASSIVE!
Hi Juan Pablo, I found you pretty enjoyable in Season 9. Congratulations for the victory! Also I liked this choice of questions and how you portioned the time to answer them. Will watch Part 2.
I'm late to the game, just finished the season. I was rooting for you but I had some doubts when you decided on the fasting strategy. But then the more I watched I realized you were playing some 4d chess. You adapted to the environment you found and won it your way all while bringing some fresh and interesting strategies to the show.
You were so awesome! I’m so happy for you! Are you and Jennifer married? I think your strategy was brilliant everything you’ve said makes perfect sense. I wish you all the best!
I'm sure they're are those commenters who are purists about surviving, but I rather win $500k than to "survive". Way to go for figuring out the game and winning it.
I think that you should be required to finish creating a rain and wind proof shelter and a raised bed in one day, By day 14, you should be requires to have made at least 5 1-gallon cookpots and lids, capable of boiling and storing water. By then, you should also have made 1000 sq ft of 2" mesh netting and a servicable watercraft. The netting can be made in a week and the craft in one day.
if you know anything, you can make a perfectly adequate shelter in 12 hours or less, for the time of year that they are there. They can spread out that build over at least a month, probably 2 months, two.. There's no need of a heat source inside of the shelter for at least 2 months, and certainly not a fire. When they can take all of the clothing that they are allowed to take, can take a tarp, and are given yet another tarp and can use dry debris, snow, the tarps and frozen debris to insulate themselves from the cold. There's no need of a sleeping bag, cause a reflective Tyvek bivy is more useful than the sleeping bags. They are not moving, so debris can do the job of the goosedown in a sleeping bag. You need a lot more of the debris, but you've GOT plenty of the debris on-site. You MIGHT have to dry out that debris, but that's the work of just one day.
People dont understand what insulates you from the cold is not the goose-down of the sleeping bag. it's the trapped AIR that is 'caught" by the overlapping feathers that keeps you warm. You can arrange for 3 layers of tarp and one layer of tyvek and have 2 ft of debris/trapped air between you and the cold. Heat is lost by radiation, conduction and convection. when you SEAL the shelter, there's almost no convection currents in the air, you lose very little of your body heat to convection. Only when you're asleep is there a pinkie-sized vent hole in the shelter. When you're on a raised bed with lots of debris under you, you're touching almost nothing that conducts your body- heat away from you.. When the cold is kept away from you by 2 ft of trapped air, which is held between impermeable membranes, full of dry debris, you lose very little heat to conduction or radiation. The shelter must be kept small, very little bigger than a coffin, so that you dont waste your body heat into the cold air between you and the shelter. Many people cannot handle being so-confined for long periods of time. However, it doesn't even freeze for the first month of this challenge and you ARE free to frequently go outside and use a pair of Siberian fire lays, projecting their one way heat at you from both sides, to warm you, while the tarp and pole work-pavilion keeps the wind off of you. So you can be outside when you need a break from being in the tiny sleeping shelter. You can also use the Siberians to heat both sides of big rocks and take the rocks into the sleeping shelter with you. This should not be done until you're nearly too emaciated to make metabolic heat. The 4 head-sized rocks should be put into a row of pits under your raised pole-bed. Surround each stone with a 2" thick layer of wood ashes, so that the stone is insulated from the cold ground. Heated air rises, so you want those rocks under you. At first, the hot stones will make it too warm in the shelter and you'll have to remove some of your 8 layers of clothing and the debris that you put between those layers. As the stones cool-off, of course you'll have to replace the clothing items and debris. Then, as the stones cool more, you'll have to brush aside the ashes that are on top of the rocks. As time passes, you'll be forced to expose more and more of the stones to the air and eventually, youll have to move the stones outside and re-heat them. Half an hour of being exposed to the heat of the Siberian fire lays, from both sides, will heat the stones sufficiently to warm your shelter by 20F degrees for 5 hours. or more, if your shelter is adequately sealed, reflective, insulated and SMALL. That's all you need to be able to handle the 0F degrees which is as cold as you'll encounter on this challenge. This tactic greatly reduces the need for firewood and your time exposed to the cold. You dont need a warming fire at all for at least the first 2 months of this show. 90+% of competitors are long gone in less than 60 days.
Dud for indigenous people going alone in the wilderness it's a way passage to being a man and show you're a great hunter buy bring back meat to feed the tribe.
the producers need to stop letting men on the show that are more than 20% bodyfat, or 25% for women. They also need to require that people DO something, other than hole up in their sleeping bag. What a crock, gain 50 lbs of blubber and lay around in a shelter.. Wow, how imporessive. Like anyone couldn't do the same thing. How is that watchable TV, hmm?
I felt like this guy nvr shld have even been.on the show. His strategy was to freeze and starve. To me he was just really really lazy...worst contestant ever...that's my opinion. They rarely showed him bc there was nothing to show. No way this guy ever shld have won or even been on the show. LAZY LAZY LAZY LAZY LAZY
Says you from the comfort of your couch. JP actively worked the problem, evolving a solution that fit the circumstance. Instead of eating a bear, JP became the bear. (Ever hear of hibernation?) Please save your stupid and shallow comments for Family Guy, or whatever you busy yourself with when you’re note trolling.
While I was rooting for you for most of the show, at the end, you were hoping your body wouldn't give up before the rest. You weren't living. You gave up period. I lost the respect I had for you.
Have you watched the show? The people who went out immediately went back in and ultimately quit because you expend more energy than caloric intake due to the cold. Its mathematics.
