I would like to see you do a video comparing different air bag systems showing which ones work better for different styles of riding. Maybe cover what features you may want to look for depending on how you are riding.

We do have a video coming soon on our top picks for airbags to look out for. Hopefully that'll help answer your questions.

I used to not even consider alpine stars and other airbag brands for the intial price and needing to send it back if deployed. Having user swappable user serviceable electronic airbags is great. Now if they can just bring a product like this one for upright (adventure) riding.

They did launch the Tech Air OffRoad in February that is designed for ADV / Enduro / Street use if that is what you’re looking for.

I hope they update the tech air 5 to the dual chamber.

My question is! Is the off road one & the rest of the airbags. Using the same algorithm system, for changing settings to ride in the streets etc.. or is there a difference between picking one. I don’t know if I’m explaining myself. I ride on the street but I think I like that the off-road one gives you a lot more protection.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 12 дней назад
The “street” algorithms are identical, but the off road version offers 2 distinct off road algorithms, while this 7x offers a Race version for the Track. So you’d have to figure out which matches your riding style more and go that route. The off-road airbag does offer more passive armor though, if that is something you’re looking for.

@@RevZilla thank you for your response. One last thing, the off road one goes all the way down the back like this air 7x?

You say it can measure lap times through the app ? Do tell because i have not seen such an option.

This is a very different bag design than the 5. Can you compare the coverage of the single bag strategy of the 5 vs the dual chamber 7x? I have both and it looks like the 5 may even give more coverage, especially where it wraps around the ribs.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 5 дней назад
We will link down below the product pages for each, where you can see the Alpinestars-provided photos of the bags cut away from the unit when inflated. Coverage is about the same in some areas, but overall protection still stays about the same. The Tech Air 5 has a bit more side protection (common crash area w/ cars, curbs, etc) while the 7x has more tailbone and outer shoulder protection (common with sportier / track crashes, etc). www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-tech-air-5-system www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/alpinestars-tech-air-7x-airbag-system

I think the Tech Air 5 is still the best protecting airbag vest on the upper body currently. I wish the Alpine Air Tech Offroad and Alpine Air Tech 10 had rib protection as well as protection that goes lower to the stomach. The airbag vests at the moment from Alpine only protect the upper body and lower back to hips for the Air Tech 10. Maybe they will come out with a better coverage airbag system in the future.

What suits is this compatible with? Like with the zipper and Velcro patches. Anything that says tech air 5 compatible or is it different?
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 12 дней назад
It is different that Tech Air 5, as that unit doesn't have any jacket / suit connection built in. There isn't anything currently in their line that it zips into directly, but we expect that to change during their Fall launch. However, the 7x can be worn standalone under any fitting jacket in the meantime prior to the supporting products launching.

Been riding with mine on the street since I got it at the CotA launch. Comfortable under most of my jackets after I removed the back and shoulder pads. Doesn’t fit under my race suit though since my chest is too big. Kind of annoyed that A* hasn’t released any compatible jackets yet
@antoniomatic7572
@antoniomatic7572 13 дней назад
What are the model names of jackets that the 7x is comfortable under? Does the long back(tail) of the airbag bother you when siting on the bike?
@BenYarmis
@BenYarmis 13 дней назад
@@antoniomatic7572 I have a Revit Sand 4 jacket and a Street and Steel riding shirt. I do have a bit of a hunchback according to my friends but whatever. The tail does poke down a bit below my jacket but for me it goes just below the top of my butt crack. My bike is on the sportier side (vs upright or reclined) so I don’t end up sitting on it at all

You say you can inspect the bag yourself and determine if you want to run past 4 deployments without service. I like that idea since my falls are typically slow speed collarbone breakers. I don't even damage my adventure jacket, I doubt I'd need a bladder replacement anytime soon. That being said, the A* TA 7X manual specifically states (just like the offroad model) that after 4 deployments the unit will lock itself out until it is professionally serviced. (Per A* User Manual) IMPORTANT! The Electronic Control Unit (16) records the number of deployments. After the fourth deployment, the System will permanently indicate a System Fault, displaying a solid red LED (2a) on the LED Display (2). The System will remain locked until a full service is performed by an authorized Alpinestars’ Tech-Air® Service Center. Can you qualify this difference in information? Also, is it possible, in your information regarding this could apply to the off-road model as well? Thanks for any info you can provide.
@RevZilla
@RevZilla 10 дней назад
You are more than welcome to reach out to Alpinestars for their official comment. However, from we were told the system will no longer lock you out after 4. The manuals were printed months before this change. Astars still 100% recommends the swap / inspection for a new bag, but the system should no longer lock you out.
@vinceb4105
@vinceb4105 10 дней назад
@@RevZilla Per Spencer at A*, both the Off-Road and the 7X can go beyond 4 without locking out a reload.

@RevZilla
@RevZilla 9 дней назад
You might find the Tech Air 5 to be better for your scenario, depending on the riding position (the 7x is a bit more sport-bike full tuck designed). However, if you want to change your own cartridges, then the 7x should be your ticket.

is it true that if you wear an airbag under a tight jacket that it will crush you as it cant expand?

@G.W._Cook 13 дней назад
No, it will slow down the deployment of the airbag to a point that it might become ineffective. And you need 4cm of room for the Alpinestars systems, as per the user manual.

Suddenly, I’m perfectly happy with my Dainese Smart Vest. Certainly, $1k is still cheaper than a hospital bill (in the USA), but there’s a point when it’s just obscene. This is where Alpinestars is headed here.

Alpinestars needs to chill on their pricing, not paying $1,000+

You are getting 2 canisters & 4 deployments & potentially even more if you decide to keep using it without sending it! & your life probably being saved at some unknown moment.
@henryslager9406
@henryslager9406 12 дней назад
If you want a cheaper airbag, get a mechanical Helite Turtle 2. New canisters are a lot cheaper as well. Back protection goes really low like this one, but the back protector doesn’t go down to the lowest point so you can sit comfortably upright. Compared to the A* it misses the collarbone protection, but it helps your neck from overextending, and the side protection is much lower so it should also protect the hips. And also great is that it has a much larger air volume, so it’s a lot thicker protection when deployed.

You don't have to pay 1k. You can pay nothing and just keep riding as you have been. But clearly this interests you, because it resulted in you complaining about the price.

I am subscribed to Revzilla but most of your videos don't appear in the Subscriptions tab on RU-vid. The last Revzilla upload to appear on the Subscriptions page was the "How to Modernize a Vintage Motorcycle | The Shop Manual" video. It appears that RU-vid is hiding your channel, Revzilla. If your videos don't appear on the Subscriptions page, I have no idea they exist!

We don’t give every video a notification for our viewers since we launch and upload so many at a time. RU-vid isn’t hiding us, we are just choosing to not hit our followers with a ton of notifications all at once everytime we upload. Thanks for the concern though!
