Thank you for that amazing comment - I read it with a huge smile on my face! Yes, it's probably my favourite journal that I've got on the go at the moment, and the closest to being full - I shall be sorry when there's no more space to play in there. Ah well, I'll just have to start another altered book journal when that happens... Thank you for all your lovely coments today.
So many wonderful things to love- those textured backgrounds are delightful! I also loved the incorporated dried flowers among the pages with your collage. Even the warm colored pages were so beautiful and soothing. A wonderful walk through your beautiful arty altered book! Thank you
Yes, it's really clear when autumn hits, isn't it, and all those warm rusts and oranges start coming! So happy you enjoyed the flip through. Thank you for sharing such a lovely, thoughtful comment.
Such a stunning book Alison. I found myself pausing the video on almost every page so I could take in every single little detail. You are so, so inspiring. Thank you so much for sharing your talents with us. Xx
I'm so happy to hear that - it's definitely one of my happiest places to play, this book... I shall be slightly sad once it's full! Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
✨ @w0rdsandp1ctures I found myself doing exactly the same, having to pause and zoom to see the beauty within each page, so many beautiful details everywhere😊😊 You are so very talented 🤗✨
@sheilastyrebriere @PaperInspirationsAU In a few weeks time there will be a longer flip through of this book, with me talking in more detail about what's involved in each page, so you'll get another chance to zoom in then! Thank you both for your support and lovely comments here on the channel.
Absolutely lovely!!! Looking forward to you explaining your process and sharing your creativity and techniques! Thank you so very much for inviting us on this journey!!!❤❤
So happy to have you along for the journey! We'll have a look at some other books in the meantime, so the talking version of this one will be in a few weeks' time. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
Wow just amazing!! What is even better is I just stumbled upon your channel and I absolutely had to subscribe!! Just beautiful work I love everything I’ve watched! ❤❤❤
Happy you found your way here - welcome! So delighted to hear you are enjoying exploring the channel... that's wonderful to hear. Thank you so much for watching, commenting and subscribing - much appreciated.
So happy you like it, thank you. We'll look at a few other books in the meantime, so the chatty version of this one will be in a few weeks' time. But in the meantime, there are already a Few Minutes of Fun showing the next page in this book under way. The background is here if you haven't already seen it - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KnJv3HypkX8.html - and the collaging is coming up in about ten days' time. So that will keep you going for now, I hope! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

This altered book speaks to my personal aesthetic. This is the direction I’ve been trying to take but didn’t know it yet. Thanks for sharing the absolute beauty of this book. 🤗🇨🇦🤗 Elizabeth
Thank you for sharing your talent and creativity! Absolutely LOVE your style and so looking forward to the follow up videos. Working on an art journal is at the top of my To Do List! You’ve definitely inspired me now!!
So happy to hear you feel inspired to play... there is a Few Minutes of Fun video showing the background of the next page in this book being created (and the rest is coming soon), so look out for that if you haven't seen it. And the next episode of Books, Books, Books is coming up later today! Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave your lovely comment.
Hello Alison! LOVELY!!! Seeing your flip through of this art journal was so enjoyable! I loved how you allowed time for my eye to scan the whole page spread to see the overview of its contents before then moving the book around to allow my eye to wander around the page with a magnifying glass of sorts to take in all the beautiful details! Thanks for taking your time & energy to share your creativity and inspiration! Have a wonderful day!!! 🙂 PS I am curious about how you do ‘rust’ as an accent on your pages as well as on your metal pieces (wire, nails, etc. - or are they already rusty?)
Thank you so much, as always, Sue, for a wonderful comment - such a pleasure to read. And thanks for the feedback on the camera movement - I wanted to get the page as a whole as well as the close-ups, as you say, but was a bit worried people might end up feeling seasick with all the moving around!! It's many different rusting techniques picked up over the years - some with paint, some with ink, some with texture pastes, some with a combination of all those things. I'm sure one or two will come up in A Few Minutes of Fun some time, but I'm also thinking of creating an actual class looking at some of the ways I do it. But the rusty wire mostly comes ready-rusted, except I do now have lots that held up my sugar snap peas in the garden last year and is now ready for playing with in the craft room. PaperArtsy Rusting Powder is a marvellous thing that I use a lot... shop.paperartsy.co.uk/rusting-powder-3322-p.asp - and that bottle will last you ages and rust lots of stuff. Hope that helps for now.
So happy you enjoyed it... and thank you for your lovely comment. There are pages left because it's still an active art journal. In fact, there's a page I'm working on in the Few Minutes of Fun series... the background is in the link below, the collaging is still to come. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KnJv3HypkX8.html
So inspiring, thank you. I love your vintage style and the colours are speaking to me... telling me I CAN go finish all those half done pages in many journals. Really enjoyed!
Absolutely you CAN... I sometimes have pages left for literally years waiting for the inspiration to strike (see the Books, Books, Books episode coming up in a couple of weeks!). So happy you're enjoying the inspiration.
Thank you so much for such a beautiful, thoughtful comment. (Haven't yet opened the pages on some of the really personal journalling... and I may never - so you are definitely right!)
It was a delight to see this stunning book😍...multipal times! Love how the seasons changes in your pages, how you use the thread and all those gorgeous flowers and fabulous details 😎 I am looking forward to hear you tell more about the making. Thank you so much for sharing and have wonderful weekend, Alison🌞
Thank you, Edith, for such a lovely comment (on IG as well as here!). We'll take a look at some other books first, so the talkie version of this one will be in a few weeks' time. You have a great weekend too.
Your techniques are amazing and the colours you use or create are just wonderful. The tag with the crackle flowers is just beautiful and then you do the flowers again on the next page and they look so ethereal. And like others have said the cover is amazing with those texture details. You have opened up how to use of all my Tim Holtz mediums. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous book.
So happy you like it all. I'm very fond of those crackle blossoms too - and there were months in between those two things happening. I had made the tag ages before I thought of including it in a journal page! So happy to hear that these videos are inspiring you to play around with your Tim Holtz mediums... there is so much joy to be had with them. Thanks so much for watching and for your lovely comment.
Glad you enjoyed it, and yes, we all have our own individual pleasures. I shall never understand pot-holing or baseball, for instance!! But it would be a dull world if we all liked the same thing! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Yes, I love all that scrunchy brick texture, and I was really pleased with the reflective "glass" (acetate) in the window frame. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.

What a beautiful book! Did you gesso the pages to start with? Do you just use one page or glue several pages together for extra strength? What is that frayed fabric you used? How did you do the cover?
So happy you like it. There's going to be a video coming which talks through the pages in some detail, so that will answer many of those questions. That's coming up in a couple of weeks' time. But some of the questions are already answered in these videos in which I'm working on a background and the collaging of one of the pages in it: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KnJv3HypkX8.html (background video) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IX8xtM9Ylo8.html (collage video) And the cover is basically a version of the rusty crackle tags and tissue paper... It's Tim Holtz Collage Paper, with rusty texture created similarly to the rust texture on these tags (but with slightly different ingredients... which will be turning up in another rusty recipe some time for A Few Minutes of Fun). You can see the rusty tags in these videos, though I think you may already have seen them? Though for the book I added the tissue paper first and then rusted over the top... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ydDRv40KKTA.html (rusty texture) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5mXswUtDO3I.html (tissue paper added) Hope you're having a great week.
Yes indeed, and yes I do... there's a whole video about exactly that in this book right here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KnJv3HypkX8.html and obviously I'll also talk about it in the narrated flipthrough in a few weeks' time. Very happy you enjoyed it - thanks so much for watching and commenting.

I don't, I'm afraid... I made this years before I started any filming. It's painted Tim Holtz tissue paper, and there will be some videos with painting of tissue paper (in fact, there already is one showing a large journalling page, where I'm painting my own Printed Tissue botanicals with watercolours ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AMisrNYVfRo.html if you're interested), and at some point I will probably get to some rusty textures too, but possibly not on a book cover. Happy you enjoyed it, and thank you so much for watching and commenting.
I started working in some of my art journals years ago too, and then they go on the shelf and I get distracted by all kinds of other projects (including other journals!)... but they're always there waiting when I need them again! So happy to hear you're inspired to pull your altered book off the shelf and play. Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
Thank you so much... I'm happy you love it. There's a longer video coming up this week with me talking in more detail about what's involved in each page spread. Watch out for that on Wednesday, if you're interested. Have a great week.
Happy you enjoyed it... if you haven't got any on your shelves already, charity shops very often have them to give away. Bizarrely, they often pulp the older hardback books - they're definitely missing a trick not tapping into the craft market!!
Thank you so much... yes, the cover was almost accidental - just me having a play with some of the (now sadly discontinued) Tim Holtz Tissue Wrap, and wondering how it would look with some added rusty texture!!
Thank you ... it's just one of many journals - there will be more coming your way in this Books, Books, Books series. Maybe one of these days I'll actually fill one up completely!!
Just beautiful. I can't decide what I like best an original book cover, with secret art journal inside or your lovely altered cover. I was also wondering if you think out your book before altering it? Or is this something you'll discuss in depth later on?
Glad you corrected think to thin... I was about to assure you there's no planning ahead! I don't tend to thin out, no - I like the crazily chunky look you end up with, and how that stands up on a shelf as a sculptural object. At the point when I can't open it to work in any longer, that's when I'll know it's full! I do glue several pages together, to get a firmer working surface. You can see that in the Few Minutes of Fun episode where I'm working on the background for the next page in this book - here if you haven't seen it ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KnJv3HypkX8.html (and the collaging over the top is coming up in about ten days' time too). I have other hardback book journals where I haven't altered the cover at all so, as you say, it's a complete surprise when there's something inside. (In fact, it's not unknown for me to take a book off the shelf in the studio to tear some pages out to use in a project and discover that actually it's got art journalling inside!). Happy you enjoyed the video, and thank you so much for your lovely, thoughtful comment.

Sorry about that - I wanted to get the page as a whole as well as the close-ups, as you say, but was a bit worried people might end up feeling seasick with all the moving around. The commenter above you felt the opposite and really enjoyed it, so you win some and you lose some, I guess! I suppose you could try slowing the video down to watch, but maybe better to wait for the version in a few weeks' time where I talk through the pages in more detail... I've filmed that differently, so hopefully it won't do the same thing to you. Thank you for the thumbs up despite the seasickness - that's kind!
@@w0rdsandp1ctures Oh great, then I will wait for your new video! I didn't know if you were aware some people can't handle this kind of video, but like you say, other people like it, so... In the end, you should do what you prefer, you can't please everybody. ❤️
Crackle paste through a stencil and some sprays, as far as I remember. I'll take a look at it and see whether I could create something similar for A Few Minutes of Fun some time soon! Thanks so much for watching and commenting.
