This would make a perfect little memory box. I have a sister who passed away quite young and I could add a picture of her along with some memorabilia, make three, one for me and my other two sisters. Thanks for the idea and for sharing it with us.
Cheesecloth....cleaning out the bathroom cabinets and started to throw out an old open package of sterile gauze. Took a quick look & realized that I could use it instead of buying a yard of cheesecloth. It's not as tightly woven, but so far it is working on my simple projects. Love that I discovered your channel.
Cute! Two things I would like to suggest adding. Through one of the buttons add some knotted thread. I would also add something behind the clipboard… It looks kind of bare back there!
Yes, yes! We DO share that same aunt! I fall in love with all of your projects. This tin is precious. 💕 I love your second set of words: “As you rip so will you sew.” (Paraphrased, I think.) Those scissors look 3D. Awesome job!!!You crack me up!!! Your sense of humor reminds me so much of how I speak when I’m “in my happy zone” teaching my students grammar. Man, I will be glad when I can get back in the classroom! Everyone needs that one odd person whom you can’t help but learn from. (Yes, I did end this sentence with a preposition, but it’s all fine “bc I’m a professional.” ) Thank you so much for sharing your project time with us!!! I love it!!! 😎💕💖
Every time I end a sentence in a preposition, I think that there are ppl out there who are tsk-ing me 😄 Unfortunately, I type how I speak and that is NEVER a good thing! Imagine a squirrel dodging 8 lanes of busy traffic 🤭
Nik the Booksmith, they shouldn’t tsk you. (I was tsking myself in jest.) Once I mention teaching English, I feel compelled to check my writing in case a rude person takes it upon him- or herself to “correct” me. (Most of the time, they are incorrect.) You are very popular, so my odds of being corrected by another Booksmith fan are greatly increased. 😉 My praise for your speaking style is genuine, and I genuinely believe my similar fun way of talking out fun grammar lessons is a reason my students’ standardized test scores increase the year they learned from their “odd” teacher: The info is so entertaining: How can they forget? 😉 You are an entertaining, effective teacher. How can I not enjoy your videos? I love them, and I come away having learned a lot, even if I don’t realize how well until later. 🤗💕
I'm a retired RN, and I have an old medical dictionary that's about 5" tall and lots of other medical ephemera. I am envisioning making one these with doctor's orders on the clipboard, etc. You've had a hand in creating monsters looking all over for little ephemera to put in little time and boxes.
She really appealed to me because my mother was a nurse and I could put a tiny picture of my mother inside of one of those and it would be wonderful I love this project I am that great grandma I am not great
So glad you took a break so I could see this neat idea and process you've come up with!!!!!! Oh, my gosh!!!!! I love watching your videos and listening to you talk us through it all!!!!!!! Keep up the GREAT work!!!!!!
STOP IT! Now I have to run out to buy lots of tins to make a dish cupboard or a linen closet or a bookcase with mini books or a toy chest or a doll collection or a curtained window or a gate with flowers or...or...or. Oh my. I have to make them ALL! I can’t stop thinking of ideas! Oh, dear. I love miniatures.
I love listening to you!!! Your thought process, and then you crack me up!!! This little tin is so very cute!!! I have a couple of tins I have saved for quite awhile, now I know why!!! Lol!!! Thank you for the great idea, I think it will be a lot of fun to do and I love little things too!!! Hugs💗👵
Hi Nik. I have altitude this all over the place. Glad to hear I can wipe them with paint thinner. This little tin is very cute. I love your idea of using what you have. Although I did just buy a bunch of buttons at the thrift store, along with four lace style curtains (yes, to tear up), old Latin dictionary..... Hugs kay
I just love this tin sew much!!! I love all the tiny details. Miniatures jus make me smile so much because of all the tiny and thoughtful details!! I do have one suggestion, but since you are the artful mastermind, and I have not even graduated to become a lowly apprentice yet. your thoughts and ideas are so much better than mine: a piece of folded or rolled muslin or a muslin strip tied in the top of the clipboard. Thanks so much for sharing. I have so much ephemera and bits and odd pieces from my two grandmothers and my mama (my BFF) who all passed within 5 months of each other in 2014. I have tons of tins. this may be a great way to display those little odd pieces together! Thanks for the inspiration, as always!!! And I am very much "Squirrel", too!!!!!
They say a change is as good as a rest. Nice what you can do in between projects. We buy 12 full Altoids fine at a time from Amazon. Peppermint aids concentration. That's my excuse. Love your videos. Thanks from Wales.
Amazon sells them in batches too. One can get the 'altioids' shape and size and even the smalls size ones. Also, round or square shapes can be had too.
So cute! It 12:00 a.m. and I am making little clipboards. Good thing it is freezing out with slick roads, or I probably be heading into town to buy Altoids!
I love that idea! I have a lot of little photos like you used of my mom and dad, that were taken in the 30's and 40's. I think I will make one and use one of those photos. :)
Wowzeees!!! This was sooo cool!!! I love this video, can't wait to try one for my mama. Thank you so much, you're an angel for sharing. You've got wings baby!!☺😉☺
I was wondering where you were. Every morning I look for my Nik video. I realize you have a life, family, and everything else, and I realize that you have to have time to craft and not just make videos all the time, but those of us who are Nik video junkies (and we know who we are), have missed you. No pressure of course. I can just keep watching all the old Nik videos. And I can watch all the instructional videos again - I do learn something new each time. I'm about out of dyed paper so I COULD dye some more. I don't want to make you feel guilty. By the way, I really have enjoyed the shadowboxes! Waiting for the next tome. Happy New Year to you and yours!
gosh, I should show you all what I have been up to! I did a major clean-up, declutter purge of my pantry, linen closet and spice cabinet. I think I need a vacation now...😏
I have those tins. 5 of them!! i don't know why, maybe because they were 50 cents at Tuesday Morning! Now I know what to do with 1 of them!!! This is perfect Nik!!!! Love love love this cute cute project!!! Seriously, I am that nurse who loves to sew!!!!! ♥
I love your channel, so I've been catching up on some videos I've missed. This shadow box idea is wonderful and YES, my Christmas list for this year is done! Tfs!!
Oh this is super gorgeous, I recently made a larger shadow box of the same theme, so much fun...I also use these great little tins to hold mini junk journals now thats fun TFS Love your craft xox
Soooo cute ! Also realizing I do have a tin box like that at home (well, it's painted in pink in the outside, got it with very cheap earrings years ago but whatever, a little bit of acetone would probably solve this issue). Another thing I want to try my hand at, now!
Yes, it’s so adorable and cute !!! Oh Nik, before I get a change to get one thing done you have me wanting to do something else 😘. Ok, have a few tins to play with. Also I love old cigar boxes and want to use them as a shadow box . Thanks a bunch Nik, so much fun with you 👍🏻 !!!
I think it is adorable, just one req, have the camera closer as you work. So it probably would be easier if we were looking over your shoulder. Might just be me since this is the first time I watched your channel..
Awesome project! Where do you find all of your materials? My daughter and I enjoy and are always looking for crafts and small art projects to do when she comes home from her mom's. I really think she'll dig this.
Hi Nik! I am "late to the party", but enjoyed your video very much right now! I love little altered tins so much and yours turned out great! I love all of the little pieces you found to put inside your shadow box scene! That "spool of thread" is so tiny! Where did you find that at? I've also never seen the hanger paperclip before. Sounds like I must need to get out more often! Did you say that the scissors were made of paper? If so cool! They sure do look like they are made of metal. Your shadow box scene, altered tin turned out fabulous! Great job on the video & the tin! TFS P.S. BTW, this was my first time visiting your channel. I am subscribing now. Happy Crafting!! Samantha
Love this, I've been saving all my Altoids mints boxes buy now they make them embossed so you can't just take off the paint and reuse them!! I haven't done much because of that. Shame on them!! Funny how some companies view their customers and what is working for them behind the scenes and others do not. Look at Duck Tape and what they did, they found out that people were using it for arts and crafts and their business exploded when they catered to their customers needs...there are others too..anyway thanks for this little tut its adorable..where do you find the little pins? You are so fun and remind me of my silly self that wanders loosely in my mind!
