It’s so validating to hear about the the emotional toll of acne. The struggle is so real 😭
@replicxnt

I know how you feel. I started to have awful acne at the age of seven years old. At 14 I went on Accutane, and my skin was amazing. But it didn't last long. I was struggling so bad a few months ago and I was honestly contemplating ending it all. Even though I have a three year old boy. I went to the doctor sooo depressed and asked for Accutane. He said yes and just wrote me a prescription without even looking at me. I was on the verge of taking Accutane but bailed out last minute. I did a tonne of research. I read papers, articles, watched videos and decided to ask my family doctor for Adapalene and Tretinoin. He didn't really know much about them. Everything I have done to clear up my skin the last few months is self taught with the help of research. I have been using Adapalene and Tretinoin and in just three months, my skin has changed dramatically. I also have given up dairy and started intermittent fasting which has helped. I wish you the best of luck with your journey to okay looking skin. I mean that's what we are asking for right? Just regular skin like other girls. Not perfection. Good luck 💙

Great timing! I just switched a month ago to Altreno from regular tretinoin. I'm 51 with extremely dry skin and regular tretinoin was difficult to apply as it had no slip and therefore difficult to apply the 'pea-size' amount all over my face. Altreno is MUCH easier to apply and less irritating. It took 6 months to build up to application every other day with regular tretinoin and it still caused excessive peeling and dryness. I can use Altreno every other day with zero dryness and peeling. Love it.

Thank you for this info and explanation. I have struggled with deep, painful acne since my 20s (now 36) and am always researching and trying to evolve my understanding and routines for treatment. I just stumbled upon an article my derm about Altreno and then found your video! I am at the end of my Retin-A Cream (which I've been using for a couple years) and am going to ask to switch to this as I definitely struggle to treat consistently without disrupting my skin barrier (at just 0.025%) and I always suffer from dryness and sensitivity with treatment no matter how much I cut back or slowly ramp up. Thank you again! I'm excited this exists!

I have had acne all my life. I am really happy that retinoids are going into better formulations. I know there is not much research about The Ordinary retinoids. I use the 5% in squalane oil with next to no irritation and also a French retinoid A313 with a little more irritation. Both are easier than anything I have used before and they both work for acne...for me anyway. And hopefully wrinkles. Thank you for another great video.

I just recently started watching you about a week ago and you are now my favorite RU-vidr! I have suffered with acne my whole life and now being almost 30 years old I am still struggling with it as well as scars and hyperpigmentation. I have tried so many things and recently started using facial oils like rosehip, tamanu, Sea Buckthorn, and hemp seed oil. I have a lot of redness and anything I put on my face irritates it. I have dry skin and I would love to know what you would suggest as far as what products to use and how to use them in order daily. I have been watching so many videos and I don't know what to choose from all of the products you talk about but anything budget-friendly would be great. I have been wearing makeup ever since I have had acne at 11 years of age and I would love to feel great in my own skin and have confidence. I have screenshot a lot of the products you talk about but I don't know if I can layer certain ones or how to use them in order in the day and at night.

I love Altreno! I have acne and rosacea, and I started with epiduo. It irritated my skin so much, even CeraVe moisturizing cream would burn my skin. The Epiduo wasn't very effective and made my skin peel, red, and burn. I kept it up for several months and finally went back to my dermatologist. He prescribed minocycline and Altreno, and I absolutely love it. My skin wasn't as sensitive, it would still peel but didn't feel overly dry, and I never experienced burning. I had to discontinue use of the antibiotics and Altreno because I'm pregnant, but I can't wait to use it again to get my clear, smooth skin back.

Can you do a video on Retin A micro? Wondering how this compares to Altreno...
@TigerMonthlyHits
@TigerMonthlyHits 4 года назад
Allison Cavano I love RetinA micro. Definitely much easier on the skin compared to regular RetinA due to it having microspheres, plus you don’t have to wait for your skin to dry for 30 minutes before applying. Should definitely still use a moisturizer though. However it still contains ingredients like alcohol in the base. This new one sounds like they were much more mindful of the base ingredients to carry the active ingredient.

Lynne Burrell she gave me 0.05% and I use it twice a week. I give it about 20 minutes to dry and then top it off with moisturizer. My face has been a little dehydrated but zero irritation. Before the altreno my derm had me using adapalene but my face was constantly irritated.

I’ve been using Veltin, which has been great. It’s 0.25% tretinoin with clindamycin. It is less irritating than Differin was on my skin. I highly recommend it for anyone needing acne treatment.

Shannon Graham I was the same, my already dry skin became even drier using .05% once a week. Then I found this channel, ditched all my expensive skincare and switched to Cerave PM morning and night and used a high SPF during the day. Gradually introduced 0.25% tretinoin over a few months then switched up to 0.5% with no dry irritable skin at all. Maybe the same method will work for you too? Good luck 🤞

Tretinoin is my favorite thing ever. 2.5 months consistently using .1% every other night and I can't believe how it completely got rid of the crazy blackheads I had all over my cheeks. My skin was always bumpy and those blackheads would turn into pimples that left dark spots behind. Your tips were super helpful because I had almost no irritation! I've tried using tretinoin in the past and I was using it with all my other fancy perfumy plantsy stuff and had so much irritation I had to stop. Keeping it simple was the key and now I'm super happy with my results. I can't wait to see what my skin will be like at the 6 month mark. Thank you for all of your amazing advice!!!

Sounds promising! Wonder if insurance would cover this for an older woman. My insurance will not cover tretinoin for my acne, because I’m 61 and they think i would just be using it for wrinkles...even though my physician prescribed it for acne. I’d buy it anyway, but it costs a few hundred dollars per tube. Love your videos and vlogs...thank you for posting! 🥰

I just switched to Alteno last month and it's $115 & no health insurance is accepted. But it's a huge tube and will last for months if you use a pea-size amount every other day. I love it. It is so much easier to apply than regular tretinoin and it's definitely less irritating

My 17y.o son recently stopped using ximino for acne. I had concern of continued use of antibiotics. He has also used Epiduo , Differin, Tazorac but the acne has not been under control over the past 3 years. He has decided not to try Accutane. My question is why would his dermatologist not suggest Tretinoin or Altreno?

I’ve been using Altreno for a few months now too. I never used any prescription tretinoin in the past, just OTC retinol. I don’t pair Altreno with moisturizer at night and I only really get dry skin/peeling around my upper lip and chin area. So far, so good...at least compared to stories I’ve heard with people using other brands of tretinoin.

would you consider doing a video on basics of anti-aging and perhaps some products that would be ideal for someone who's just starting out in the anti-aging realm. (i.e. people in their mid to late 20s). I want to start preventing early wrinkles (aside from sunscreen :) ), but don't think a doctor would be prescribing any prescription based skin care. so I'd love some recos for off the counter prodcuts :) Thanks!!
@jt8142
@jt8142 4 года назад
F L: Dr Dray has said in a number of videos/replies that the only evidence based “anti-aging” ingredients are sunscreen and Tretinoin. And sunscreen is the most important product because if you’re not applying and re-applying it everyday, it doesn’t really matter what else you’re applying in the hopes of improving your skin health and appearance as UV radiation and visible light will impact those efforts. The problem with OTC skin care products (other than sunscreen) is there are no regulations or standards; therefore, manufacturers can make whatever claims they want to about them, their formulations all vary, and there are very limited scientific studies on their efficacy.

I had severe cystic acne and nothing worked until years into it, my dermatologist put me on spironolactolene. Now I'm also on tretinoin and almost fully acne free. Not scar free, but I'm willing to accept that. Now, if I'd only listened to you about fragrances better. I put some scented lotion on my shoulders from a small sample and now I have a shoulder rash 😔

Okay you know I love you oh, your mom, and Tybee! There is a lady in the comments, however, who says that retin A caused hair loss so she had to discontinue use. Now I've watched quite a few of your videos especially with regards to Retin-A and I don't think I missed anything because I have alopecia and would not want to use it if it causes hair loss. You have not said that so I'm wondering if this is just something unique to this woman or some kind of reaction when Retin-A is supposed to be fairly safe.

Hi Dr. Dray, thanks for another great video! My derm just switched me over from regular tretinoin to Altreno for wrinkles (I’m 48 and don’t have acne). I’ve been on tretinoin for 3 years but have very dry skin and can’t use the tretinoin daily. I can tolerate the Altreno nightly but now I’m concerned since it’s only proven to treat acne. Am I better off with 0.1 tretinoin 3-4 x a week or Altreno nightly if wrinkles are my main concern? Thanks!!
