Hey Christian, so glad you chose my comment to discuss! This is Patrick, I met you in the Oceana drop-ins recently. The timing of this was right on for me as I am in a rough patch. I love the 3 solutions you posted to counter the 3 problems that define insomnia. It just helped me sit and "float with" some uncomfortable feelings. Still working on improving self-kindness, which i am now aware of and is a bit better. When I first read about self-kindness in the program, I thought it was a fluffy add-on, but now I see it is vital (and hard for me). Also, as a teacher, I love how you helped your daughter - and what a great analogy for us. Thank you.

PATRICK!!! Great to hear from you 😊 so glad this was helpful. Yes, when I heard about self kindness I wasn’t convinced about it either but when desperate I tried everything. So thankful I did, now I practice self kindness daily, humbling experience.

I like your style of teaching, Christian. You are easy to listen to and you are very knowledged in the "mental health" area. Thank you

I say to myself ‘I am safe enough’ and ‘I am good enough’. My body/brain seems to accept this and it filters into a reduction in hyperarousal.

Hi Cristian. Thank you for bringing to light how we can look at the problem of insomnia and what we need to do to move forward, with the use of your daughters dyslexia. I always enjoy real life situations as a means of exploring the problem and how we can approach /view a way through what we are experiencing. I wanted to share my own current experience and hear what your thoughts might be. I'm using the sleep school approaches as consistently as I can and I'm finding that my sleep is improving, however still experience speed bumps, usually in the form of an all nighter. I tend to intuitively know when I'm potentially in an all nighter, as I struggle to fall to sleep, then usually get out of bed to watch TV, go back to bed and then find that I'm still unable to fall asleep. I've noticed that at this point I will have thoughts enter my head, such as, should I get up again (or listen to a podcast whilst lying in bed), however notice 'resistance' in the sense of thoughts, for example, what if I just lie her longer, I may fall to sleep. I then have thoughts, for example, well if I do get up again, then I'm guaranteed to be awake for the remainder of the night. I find I'm in a freeze position in terms of what to do, ie flight, fight, freeze, which is when I feel a build up of frustration. I suspect I know what the answer is, ie to get up as its my intention to secure sleep, by remaining in bed that's getting in the way of sleep. I just wondered how common this issue is within your experience of insomnia recovery. Thank you, Ian

Hi Christian. So I’ve gotten a lot better throughout my journey so far. The only thing is that since I go to bed early the same time everyday during the week and wake up at the same time, my circadian rhythm is so on point that when my friends want to go to a dinner at 7:30 I get anxious because I’m usually in bed at 8:30, and wake up at 5, and even when I go to bed later, my body is so used to me waking up at this time that I can never sleep in. My husband doesn’t want this to run my life so we usually end up going. Anyways, towards the end of dinner I always start getting anxiety because it’s already 9:30 which is later for me and by the time I get home etc it will be 10, and I know I am anxious so it will be hard for me to sleep and then I just create a spiral in my head. I have been dealing with this issue for so so long and can’t seem to find anything to help. Do you have any advice? Thank you xoxo

To people who struggle with self-kindness like me, try self-understanding at first. At least when I understand what was going on with this person (me) when he became an insomniac, at least I "shut up" internally and sort of go like "Okay I get it. I get why you became like this". At least this is where I'm at right now and it's better in this regard.

My insomnia is such that I sleep for 6-7 hours, but I wake up every hour. I don't feel extremely exhausted in the morning, but I also don't feel fully rested and I dream a lot, it feels like I spend 6 out of 7 hours dreaming. My doctor confirmed that I don't have sleep apnea. What kind of insomnia is this? Anyone else who has this type of insomnia?

When you are fatigued and dislike it, does that reinforce to the brain that the fatigue is good?
@cristianzor_scs
@cristianzor_scs 19 дней назад
We all dislike fatigue I just don’t blame it on sleep, if I do it puts more pressure on us to want to sleep-something we cannot control.
