amazing video -- I have not been able to find anyone to explain how the reservoir gets filled or sucked -- you showed it's between the little space of the radiator cap AND you showed that there's a STRAW that goes to the BOTTOM of the reservoir and sucks it back in -- I was so confused how it can suck it up from the top when there's air in between -- AND you explained that the extra nozzle is for excess -- AMAZING -- thank you so much
I dont really drive far but our subaru car radiator is always empty and requires I refill daily, or once in 2 days, please what could be the cause of that? Could not putting on the car ac to drive have an effect on drying up? Please help!
Very vert informative... dami ko na pinanood na video about this topic ...ngaun ko lang talag naintindihan kung paano hinihigop ng radiator ung sa reservior... very nice sir... prof. Ka po ba sa school ng automotive? Napaka liwanag mo po mag explain sir...
I disagree with need for double seal because the purpose of larger seal is ONLY to direct discharge water into the expansion tank. Expansion tank is OPEN to atmosphere, so there will be only slight pressure in the small rubber hose from radiator to OVERFLOW tank. You do need the single seal to overcome vacuum when radiator cools and pulls coolant from overflow tank back to radiator.
Great tips about the radiator cap! showing the water bottle expansion and contraction was helpful/ You explained it all so well. thank you. so if my coolant reservoir is empty, should I fill that in my cold engine if my radiator is full? Thanks! I love how clean your engine is. :)
@MrDIYer how long do these caps last? example like honda city ? 21000km 2.5 years old ? hot humid weather, especially now with El Nino La Nina almost everywhere? I assume the cap should be good still right ? Would i be wasting money buying a new one ?
Wow that was awesome.. Thanks I’ve been noticing my reservoir is low every 2/3 months I just top it off.. a few days ago when I got home I got out of the car and I could smell coolant, looked under my car and there is drips like it’s sprayed all over half the bottom of the engine. My question to you my friend, is that a symptom of a radiator cap? It’s a 09 Subaru legacy with the original radiator cap.
Sir another thing, we must be aware of pressure bar rating. higher pressure bar rating can also lead to coolant loss. the more pressure can hold by the radiator cap, more coolant will evaporate inside the system.
Well explained but why would the expert make the seal inefficient so that a new cap needs an old seal? If I bought a new car,the radiator cap needs an old seal? I've heard your explanation but not getting it. Respect.
I had an overheating issue and i replaced my thermostat and then everything ok till now. My coolant is running low iam missing 300 ml in 200 km. Could it be a bad radiator cap or a bad head gasket? Also i placed my hand on the exhaust pipe and there was steam. Is it normal?
Thank you for the nice informative video! My car's engine keeps losing coolant, but I see no leak from the radiator, hoses, water pump or expansion tank whatsoever. I don't see any coolant stains on my parking spot either. I thought maybe it would be from the head gasket but I if it was the case then there would be oil mixing with coolant or vice versa, and no smoke coming from the exhaust, oil level check pipe or oil addition cap. What might be the problem?
@@vinreynon1307 no i couldn't, but I did find the leak. It was from the water pump and heater hoses but the antifreeze dripped over the chassis or stuck on the hose as it has a kinda sticky structure, so I couldn't see it on the ground. My mechanic showed me that when he lifted the car...
Well done but I think you forgot to mention that much smaller valve at the Centre of the radiator cap that opens from the suction (negative pressure) to allow coolant to be sucked back from the reservoir/tank
one question sir.. newly overhauled radiator and just replace a new radiator cap how come the radiator still loss a little amount of coolant and it is going to the coolant reservoir.. what seems to be the problem? could it be the thermostat? hope you'll answer my question sir.. thanks..
Absolutely well explain. The other day I drove my car for more than a week, when stop at shopping centre RED Temperature light appeared on my Dashboard I checked the Reservoir completely empty also the radiator took about a litre & half of water. I did not drive again until yesterday and Red light appeared Radiator took over 2 litres of water. Got the Road Side Assistant out he said he does not think its the head casket as the car starts with no problem, he could not see any leaks under neath the motor / on the ground. How do I put the Coolant in the Radiator, if there is still some water inside and do I have to mix the coolant. I have a 4 litre of Distilled water. Please help no $$$ I'm a 74 year old Pensioner. Marami sir. Aside sa timing chain ang 4m40. Marami narin version.
So basically you used the very top seal out of the two old seals from the old cap and put the old top seal from the old one onto the new caps seal that had one seal, making it double sealed? Is that correct?
My 2010 FX35 is very weird as that i'm not losing coolant at all, but all my coolant ends up in the reservoir and is not sucked back into the engine. I replaced thermostat and radiator cap but still at a loss. cars not over heating but i need at least once a week siphone the reservoid and place back into the radiator. I just installed a new new cap last night, lets see if that helps.
Very nice exlanation sir. Tanong lng sir may thermostat ba ung pajero mo sir?
I’m guessing this is my issue too? I also think I got air where the coolant is My bmw Used to overheat every 2 months and the coolant would be empty. Now it’s losing it every week or 2, the coolant goes empty but no leak. I’ll see if it’s the cap for it
@@thepariah7445 my cap was broken. But it would still overheat. I took it to a different mechanic. Told me the Radiator was cracked and was leaking slowly which showed no leak spots Changed the coolant reservoir, and one of the front hoses that connects to the coolant reservoir. Paid $970 just got the car back yesterday. Haven’t driven it but mechanic told me it’s all good. He also said those parts easily break cause they’re made of plastic. Only annoying thing
@@AmazingTSDO how often was it overheating? I bought the car over a year ago and everything’s been fine till maybe august. I bought coolant and filled it up and everything was fine. Then I had to do it again 2 months later. And now again.
Make alot of sense my car was dumping coolant from the bottle then after adding more coolant then it started leaking from the radiator cap I guess it was it's time to change so I went ahead and change it
If yes, ipa overhaul ko ba or palit na mismo? Driving a 2009 honda civic.
Not sure doubling up the seals makes them more effective. As an analogy, if you used a double gasket on an oil filter, you greatly increase the chances of getting an oil leak.
