Tracks as beautiful as the game they call home. It's such a shame Nintendo couldn't be bothered to take notes: AM2R is by far the best incarnation of Metroid II, with the OST to prove it. Bonus points: some of the tracks bring home the same atmospheric/dramatic feel as the prime trilogy OSTs.
And a year later, the man with no life who happened to be a Metroid fan interjects with his own opinion... While the soundtrack is definitely superior, there's something about that tiny Gameboy screen limiting your FOV. It felt so isolating, and it really made the game.
Not to shit on samus returns cuz I dont think its a bad game or anything and it was a necessary game for mercury steam to try their first take on a metroid game so they could give us a masterpiece like dread yesrs later, but am2r is better than samus returns in every way possible, level design, art style, soundtrack and even bosses.
@@moonnis4608 Art was equivalent all proportions kept and especially in the environnement design. Bosses I'm not sure, they get carried by music mostly
I agree, one of the best, but I prefer the Remastered version, the choir sounds better in my opinion, but this one is good also. It has all the escence of what Metroid is, epic, heroic and mysterious.
Bethesda: Modder: *Makes an awesome, DLC-sized mod* Bethesda: Bro, that's awesome, why don't you work for us as a quest developer? SEGA: Modder: *Makes a whole new engine for a Sonic fan game* SEGA: Bro, that's awesome, come lead the development team for Sonic Mania. Nintendo: Modder: *Creates a full fledged fan game* Nintendo: Oh that's cool, here's a Cease and Desist letter. Stop using our IPs.
@@Cloudykins08And then the guy who nintendo DMCA'd gets hired by Microsoft lol, its so ironic, I love nintendo for their games but the company itself, its decisions and the way it handles its business and image it can definitely go fuck itself
When I went trough Power Plant Escape for the first time, I was like, "WTF, already escaping? Is this the end of the game?" Then it exploded, and I tought it was game over, then Samus appeared on the ground and got up. I was like, "No way...". Reloaded last save just to redo the Escape part faster, and confirm it was indeed a scripted part of the game, with fixed outcome. Amazing game!
i had to go through that segment twice because i was left with only 5 energy after the explosion...and died on the way to the save room...i did not like it
+Link Tahuterasu Spirit (Lixkn number: XLVII) You can actually go back after the expolosion and grab an E Tank that has been made accessible after the place blew up, with no enemies to mess you up. The same room also holds a Missile Container, but thats not really the point at 5 health. Now I wonder though, if you are at 6 health, does the explosion really only do 1 damage? And what if your energy remaining is 5 or less?
When this game first release, i was sitting and waiting for the countdown to hit 0 so i could download it, never would have guessed that it would get shut down just a little while later. 2nd best Metroid game in my opinion after Super
The Tower was definitely one of AM2R's highlights for me. I'm a "Lower Norfair" simp, so any rendition (or remix, or even parts of the track) is basically an insta-like for me. But then there's the whole Power Plant and its awesomely scripted escape sequence, and the Tester, one of the few bosses that really gave me trouble in the game.
Main Cavern, Hydro Station, and many others, has an awesome sound. It's like I'm there visiting this mysterious world. My absolute love of Astronomy makes this game incredible to me. Somewhere out there, there might be a SR388 full of wonders. Thank you for making this game that nintendont refuses to make.
The metroid game with the graphics and atmosphere we all wanted, but refined along with soundtrack. You gave us a good reason for still being alive today.
Yeah thats what I thought to. Also,. Industrial complex sounds like a mix between Bryyo form MP3 and Temple ground in MP2. My fave though is Golden Temple, a general huge improvement over the version from M2.
I actually like to loop both versions of the Main Cavern theme while writing. Its a wonderful ambiance type music that just *works* for keeping relaxed.
Sooo, uh, on a whim today I was Listening to the soundtrack today on my newish "Fiio FH3" IEM headphones and when "Genetics Lab" two parts played I noticed that *You can hear the Metroid Queen's (or maybe Samus's) Heartbeat thumping way down in the low Sub-bass* So unerving but so cool, it makes me want to play the game again because it felt like I was right there closing in on the Queen's lair all over again, holy smokes do I love this game and it's soundtrack, just let this be officially licensed Nintendo!
I just noticed that the cover art displays all the prime games in 1 picture! Far left: prime Middle: Prime 2 Far right: Prime 3 P.S. This is for those that haven't played the prime games
It will never be better than the legendary super metroid but I must say its up there in the top 3 best metroid games ever, enjoyed it more than the nintendo versions..nintendo should just hire this guy with a few other workers to make the next new metroid side scroller, all new abilities for samus, all new storyline, all new bosses, locations, enemies, PLEASE NINTENDO!
Anyone else here played through the original Metroid 2 before this? Because I did and I can say with 100% honesty it's probably the best remake of anything (not just a video game) I've seen.
No, lawyers took it down because it infrenges on their legal rights, they had to take it down. I'm not even sure if to many people at nintendo even know this existed.
This fan version has better soundtrack than the actual remaster version of Nintendo. Wow! It brings you the mood to want to play and explore every inch of the mazes you're in; not like the official....In the 3ds title there's only plain and boring background music almost everywhere you go (except the lava rooms, fighting the bosses or and the ones that sound Red Coil ost) And for me, the 3ds title, really kills that aspect of the metroid franchise....
Just noticed how closely related Hydro Station and Hydro Station breeding grounds are to Super Metroid's, Brinstar - Plant overgrowth Area, background music. May have been very inspired from that. Check it out, they sound some what alike.
AM2R's music is heavily based on other games in the franchise - Golden Temple is from Metroid Prime's chozo temple, Hydro station is based off Brinstar overgrowth like you said, Power Plant is of Lower Norfair from super Metroid, etc. and I think that's just really cool.
I never had the chance to play AM2R by the time i knew of its existence i heard of Nintendo claiming to get it removed and so the creator did, i was sad about it and to never get the chance to donwload it and enjoy it. Then i heard the creator of this was hired to be part of the team at Ori and the Wheel of the Wisps. So got me happy for the guy. The Soundtrack in overall, sounds even better than the Metroid 2 Remake. Made by Mercury Steam. Which i haven´t had the chance to play either, maybe later when i get me a 3DS. And well for this soundtrack i have enjoyed every track of it. It truly transmits what it is to be in a Metroid game and its atmosphere of tension, solitude and action. Thanks for the upload to and put it so well organized with time stamps and all.
This is pretty late, but I wanted to put this out there for the record. AM2R is still very accessible online if you know where to look. Since it was put on the internet, Nintendo can't take it down for good. Fans have actually been updating it and fixing bugs. I got a download of it a couple of months back, and I even got an .apk version of the game that fans made to let it run on Android phones. It's still out there, so best of luck if you ever get to play it. It is fun!
GFS Thoth, you REALLY should have added a faint AI voice calling out ship problems, a la Doom 3. "Primary Fusion Reactor offline. Vessel operating on emergency power. Life Support system is reporting severe malfunction."
for the water station, instead of brinstar remixed I would have used Maridia redone or lower torvus or the later part of the phendrana drifts where you get the gravity suit. Great soundtrack all in all
It for sure is better than SR, but Dread was hands down an amazing game. The only thing that sucks about it is the soundtrack, if somehow they pulled something like this in dread it would beat super and become my favorite 2d metroid game.
The Remixed music of AMR2 is "optimizing" in quality (The reenactors are genius in this regard) Since February 2020 I am in "Quarantine" (by COVID-19) while I found this done by the fans: I didn't know that there were such remixes.
Bloodsword788 Yeah lets hope that it is even better than AM2R ( wich is really hard to top ). The gameplay, graphics, detail and atmosphere look promising
I consider it their form of an apology for having to DMCA such an awesome fangame. However, I will not hold AM2R in mind when playing Samus Returns and I think others shouldn't either. Their game will be in an entirely different vein than this, and I feel it is wrong to compare them despite them both being remakes of the same game.
sickk kunt True words man. Btw after seeing the gamescom footage I am 100% convinced that this game will be good (but like every Metroid game, will it sell well. It just has to do well)
I was trying to figure out how to get the missing ending pics...... then I found out I had to take a long time to get It, the one of like, 6 hours of playing :/
This soundtrack (like the game) should be preserved for all time. It's an amazing accomplishment. And even the cover art here is brilliant as fuck. I love the way AM2R incorporates themes from the best of the Metroid series. If I was going to change anything though I would lose the Arachnus track (the composition is too different and varies from the others in this list). Maybe do a repeat of the Genesis fight music instead since that region of the game is considered supplemental?
Lower Norfair/Magmoor Caverns/The Tower - they are all excellent. Hard to be bad bad when the composition itself is so freaking good. Old games = the artists put their passion and their very soul on the product. This is the result.
first zeta metroid fight: First reads log about zeta metroid and discovers the name: Zeta metroid. Haha, zetta slow! Zeta metroid uses dash attack. Samus is ded edit: man was I cringe back then
Amazing soundtrack no doubt, especially considering it was for the most part a solo project. i have to say though that i do prefer Kenji's more complex arrangements
You know... I find AM2R a superior remaster to Metroid 2 than Samus Returns. Not only because of the soundtrack but also because of its gameplay and its retainment of the originality of Metroid 2 with added twists of Metroid: Zero Mission. Samus Returns from my view only feels like a glorified Metroid Prime game in the 2D spectrum in the guise of Metroid Dread's gameplay experiment. It's not bad but it feels pretty out of place, still.
At this point, Metroid fan games like Metroid Subversion and AM2R are as good as mainline games. Nintendo should hire a dedicated fan to make an official Metroid game like Sega did with Sonic Mania.
The full soundtrack is distributed with the game, if you can find a download. Locate the more recent fan patches, and you can get your hands on Doc's HQ remaster of the soundtrack.
is there a download for the final version of the soundtrack? it's starting to bug me the the sound track i have was from a demo build that only goes to the song Escape, granted the song the Tower is my favorite but still
Sorry Nintendo, AM2R is better than Samus Returns. It just is. I cant think of one thing about SR I liked better than AM2R besides its length which was actually a detriment to SR since the longer it went the more I thought about how much better AM2R is. Why would they added such a huge franchise changing mechanic like melee but it make it stationary? It made Samus and the game feel so stilted and slow.
