I've slept on another brand (the other major brand) of water pillow for five years and it is phenomenal. I bought it because I was annoyed with the way pillows tended to be too bulky at first, and might hurt my neck (even though I really don't have any neck problems) and then they get increasingly compact, and again, a neck problem. I just stumbled on the water pillow one day on Amazon, and found the clinical study of them online and read that. Indeed, the water pillow does not change in bulk. If it loses water, the loss must be tiny. Mine doesn't take "a little bit of water," it takes nearly three quarts, which is one small downside to the pillow because it makes changing a pillow case or transporting the pillow more difficult because it is so heavy. This does not bother me because although I'm old, I lift weights and bike hundreds of miles a month, but it might be a consideration for a frail elderly person. Instead of adding bleach to it, where the water ended up green after a year, I use maybe half an ounce of peroxide added to the water and it has been crystal clear, so much so that I don't bother changing the water every year as is recommended. The amount of water you use in the pillow is a personal preference, and it can vary depending on the "give" of the mattress surface, the weight of your head, and the texture of the mattress surface. Yet, too little water and the pillow is squishy and not supportive, and too much water and the pillow can be too hard and a pain in the neck. You have to be persistent in experimenting with water level and once you get it right, if you do change the water, you'll want to drain it into a container so that you can measure exactly how much water you use and write that down somewhere. If you get a new mattress, you may find the pillow needs a different water level to go with it. There is also a technique (comes with instructions) to getting all the air out of the pillow, and that is important to do both for comfort and to prevent bacterial growth in the water. The pillow does support the upper neck a little more than a regular pillow because unlike a regular pillow, the water shifts to fill in that empty spot. I thought it might take a period of adjustment to get used to but for me it was special from the very first night. It is so comfortable it makes you fall asleep faster just as the clinical studies show. If I tell anyone about how good they are, they just laugh at the idea of a water pillow like it is silly beyond belief. But it's something more people would try if they were $15 instead of $40 to $65. The pillow I got was $30 on Amazon, but just a few years before the same model was selling for $100. Once you use a water pillow, it becomes obvious how inferior other pillows (in hotels, friend's houses) are in comparison. Aren't chiros supposed to know everything about such matters? And here it took your office having some free sample you're supposed to foist on patients before you even tried it.

i have this water pillow as well.but i have also a straight neck and not as it should be a little curve.i used this pillow for a while but for me was it somehow impossible to get the right amount inside. With a flat pillow i get still stiff neck and shoulder but not more so much.when it is to high the neck and shoulder stiffness increased very much. now i saw your video and try it out again tonight.I have already a very stiff neck and shoulder.hope tonight it will be getting better. I just would like to know if it is ok to put this pillow in a pillow case or better not? Is there anything what i have to know what makes it easier for me to find the right amount for myself except showing in this video? I bought also a pillow with a neck roll inside. It has inside a hole for back sleeper and the other side is for side sleeper. This pillow is so high i tried it a few days but my neck and shoulder muscles were getting just super tide.problem there is i can't return it.

I am curious if you can put very cold water in it each night?

do you have to add something like you do in water beds, to keep the water from getting funky?

The recommend changing the water once a year. I figured it would be funky, but it was as fresh as when i first added it. Dunno how that could be true, but it was. As for the quality, I'll just say that I tried many pillows for my neck pain, and this pillow is the first to solve my problems. It's great!

This Chiro Pillow isn't comfortable for me at all. Update: Two nights ago was my first night using this pillow. I filled it with way too much water, and I was restless most of the night. I couldn't get comfortable in any position. Last night as my second night, I emptied more than half of the water, and it felt more like a pillow once I did that. It's more comfortable now. 😊
