Doug & Ashley, I've just watched this home's entire series and I have to say I have NEVER seen two people work so hard to completely overhaul a home. The fact you completed the job top to bottom, inside and out, in under two years is absolutely astounding. Not to mention having a toddler and homeschooling to boot. You folks exemplify cooperation, communication, and commitment. I'm proud to be a diyfferent member! 😀👍🏼

I've been watching since the schoolhouse. You inspired me that I could do big reno. I just completed vaulting my ceiling and putting in Rockwool (because of you) now to tackle drywall. Thanks for the inspiration. from a 57 year old grandma in Wisconsin.
Doug and Ashley, what a difference. That shabby looking “trailer” is now a beautiful home for your family. I am so impressed by the two of you. The outside does justice to the beautiful inside. I really liked the “jump” off of the ladder celebrating the last piece of siding. Hope you and Ashley now take a little down time and do something relaxing.

It's incredible! A whole new house! I had forgotten how bad the old siding was...it didn't seem nearly that bad until I saw the video! How refreshinng!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful! The amount of work both mentally and physically you two have put into rebuilding your home is astounding. The physical speaks for itself but also the mental strain of planning and measuring, trying to avoid as many pitfalls along the way, and then encountering a few, all while sharing your journey with us! And your two apprentices have been such a joy to watch!
The before and after pictures are simply astounding. I'm sure it would have cost double and probably more if you paid someone to do all of that. Best thing is, you guys have the knowledge to fix something if it goes wrong. No waiting on someone to come and charge you an arm and a leg, lol. The worst part is over. Winter is coming and you guys can relax in your beautiful little cozy house.
You underestimate the value and quality of materials. Ashley and Doug are right regarding the worth. The labor alone will be hard to recoup on a resale. Plan on staying a while.
With a commitment to each other, your children, and incredible talent, you two surpass people twice your age and experience. You have truly created (with your own "four' hands) a beautiful home for your family. You should be so proud of yourselves. And don't waste your time on negative comments. Don't even mention them..You two will have a wonderful future and I believe you can have all you wish for. I can't wait to see what you do with your acreage and ability...I know it will be fantastic.I hope Ashley gets her donkey/mule. I think your house looks beautiful. I disagree though when you say you renovated it, actually you built a house because the only thing left remaining of the original structure is the framing and foundation. You built a house and certainly deserve that credit. I'd like to see an episode where you have a family celebration of the completed job.

Love the finished house. Good to go into the winter season with a warm cozy house. I hope you plan to make the landings for the steps to the doors a good large size. I have too often had to deal with a small landing that is only large enough for the door to open. When carrying in children, groceries & packages having a good space helps. AND when Santa comes to the children he will need a nice wide space to carry in all the packages for Miss Belle and Master Maverick. I hope he doesn't forget Ashley & Doug !!!

There are a million ways to skin a cat, so to speak. You two picked one of the top 2 ways to do it and it looks beyond superb ! Bravo !! As for the rain over the doors, there are rain diverters that attach to the roof, as I'm sure you both know, we have them on our house's in VT and they work awesome. I know you're proud of what you have accomplished and rightfully so, but I just wanted to say, that all of us are as equally, if not more proud ! You did a MAGNIFICENT job and most professionals would be jealous. If it was possible to give multiple thumbs up, I would be one of those people !!!!!

Your house looks GREAT. Just a little note: The easiest way too figure out roughly what it would have cost you if you had contracted the complete job out. Simply figure your total material cost and X it 3-4 times more. Most times $$$ area is figured in. Some contractors-companies will add an extra 5-10% on top as a sales commission. I've seen higher formulas used from big time companies with large overhead. You did your homework. I give you both 5 stars ea.

Congratulations on completing your beautiful home!! You are right when you say you are doing renovation to suit you and your desires. If we tried to live our lives to please everybody, we would never accomplish anything and end up dissatisfied with the end result. Your end result is fabulous.
That final shot of the original house was shocking. What a change. And you did it all together! Even Belle and Maverick (remember when he drew those cute circles on the floor to copy what you were doing?) Ashley, we see you holding things, fetching things and cleaning up but I know that one of the hardest things must have been living in an unfinished house. Months without a kitchen must have been horrid. No room for the baby. Dangerous materials all around. You deserve a big reward.
The two of you should feel very proud of the beautiful home you've made for your family. Your work is thoughtful, precise and meticulous. What a wonderful example you are for the kids. Can't wait to see the next project.
