I mis-spoke in the beginning...I meant to say "The Blind Boys Of Alabama" (not the fictional Soggy Bottom Boys from the film 😆🤦‍♀️) who I heard do a cover of this song YEARS ago. And ironically, my parents, or one of their friends, had a jaw harp back when I was a really little kid, so I should have recognized that in the intro! Since I can't edit the video once it's uploaded, I wanted to add this since a lot of you have not so politely "reminded" me 😂 This is by far the best cover I have ever heard! Cheers 🍻

This song blew me away when I first heard it & I was completely hooked. These guys are all so talented. They lean towards country but they can do any genre. They all can take the lead depending on whos voice is best for the song. They are known for their tight harmonies. Tim Foust is one of the best bass singers out there (5 octave range) & their beatboxer vocal percussionist Adam Rupp can simulate any sound such as drums, harmonica etc. Some of my favorites are "Take Me Home Country Roads", "In The Blood", "Blue Ain't Your Color", "How Great Thou Art", "Elvira", "Hillbilly Bone", "American Pie", "Brother In Arms", "One Man Band", "Listen To The Music", "Sea Shanty Medley", "Skull & Bones" etc.

Though published in 1913 by Dick Burnett, who did not compose it, this song is an old American Folk Song. It was old when published - he just put it to paper - which then enabled him to earn from its use. Prior to that it was learned "by ear" having originated in & around Kentucky, Tennessee and thereabouts. Again, it's an old American Folk Song and because of it being mainly a verbally shared song there were different variances to be found.

He was doing the drums, harmonica and other sounds. Adam Chance, we call him Chance, was doing the didgeridoo. He’s the baritone/bass. Austin Brown was the lead here and can yodel. I think Home Free's two best "harmonizing songs" are "Helplessly Hoping" and "Auld Lang Syne." They do Crosby Stills and Nash even better (my opinion, obviously) that the original. Wait on Mayday until you are familiar with each member's vocal role. But, in the meantime: When A Man Loves A Woman, Folsom Prison Blues, Brothers In Arms, Life Is A Highway (2023), In The Blood, Listen To The Music. Really, there isn't a bad Home Free song; it just depends on your mood.

@marytramp5678 5 месяцев назад
In the Blood is one of my favorites. But i don't really understand why everyone says to wait for Mayday if they have already heard Ring of Fire. He was way in his tenor in that song just like Avi did. it's just that 1) during that bit they focused on Austin and nobody really notices it. & 2) All anyone paid attention to is the fact that he hit that G1 and held it for so long. not to take away from that bc that was Amazing.
@brendasorenson6186
@brendasorenson6186 5 месяцев назад
@marytramp5678 IMO Mayday really highlights the change-ups. You hear Tim's massive G1 in Ring of Fire and forget everything else. Plus, Chance's moment is hard to miss. But, with such a large HF music catalog and the individual members' own catalogs, it's harder to surprise reactors with Mayday. Mayday reactions are often the best reactions. My 2 cents. 😊
@marytramp5678
@marytramp5678 5 месяцев назад
@@brendasorenson6186 I completely agree. Mayday really does highlight the change ups. But by having new reactors listen to a bunch of ther other songs first they already know Tim's range and capabilties so it's not a surprise. By encouraging them to listen to it rihgt away they can be blown away not only by Tim's vocal range, but also Chance's! Because until Mayday, we really don't hear him as anything but background.until later It isn't until later that Chance gets to flourish with some actual solos and is highlghted. like you said it's getting harder and harder to surprise the reactors. Even if they haven't actually listened to HF yet, they most likely do know about their ranges, but knowing and hearing it first hand isn't te same thing so they can't actually grasp the depth that each singer has. so why put it off? that's what i was trying to get at. Not to mention if you hear something like Mayday, man it will set you on fire to hear even more. we both have valid pints and neither is wrong.

@@scottdarden3091 so have I, lol. The main reason I think it is a jaw harp, is because it is used often in traditional southern-folk-bluegrass music & a didgeridoo has its origin in aboriginal Australia. Sub'd bcuz of HF....Here's a cheat sheet I myself stole from a commentator...(Wish I could give them credit for their efforts).... The group started in 2001 by brothers Chris and Adam Rupp They won The Sing Off season 4 2013 that's where they became very popular. They are the only country A Capella ( all vocals no instruments)group but they are honestly do so so much more than just country music they can sing any genre and they do. There is no Lead singer in the group. They each ( except Adam )sing the song and who’s ever voice or voices sound right for the song gets the lead unless is a bass/ baritone song then that’s Tim or Chance. A lot of time they each have a part in the song. Fans of Home Free are known as Home Fries and are very loyal to the guys. Adam Rupp: Beatboxer Extraordinaire ( 41) can make any sound imaginable (A whole drum kit, harmonica (his Nomonica we call it )plane flyovers, trains, castanets, bugs ,birds etc).Co founder from Mankato Minnesota. Rob Lundquist :Lead tenor(beard and glasses) ( 40 )very soulful voice and master whistler from Minneapolis, Minnesota Tim Foust :Bass (had long dark hair now short with grey ) ( 42 ) 5+ octave range can go so low he blows speakers or sky high from Nederland, Texas Austin Brown: High Tenor ( Long wavy hair )( 37 ) voice of an angel from Tifton Georgia. Adam Chance(Aka Chance):Baritone/Bass ( 39 ) deep, rich voice(Does the juice harp sound in Man Of Constant Sorrow) has short dark hair short beard from Baldwin County, Alabama. Replaced Chris Rupp ( Adams Brother and co founder in 2016) They have collaborated with many singers and legends Don McLean: American Pie Oak Ridge Boys: Elvira Kenny Rodgers: Children Go Where I Send Thee (Please watch the end message) Billy Gilman: One Voice Alabama: Christmas In Dixie Mark Wills: Don’t Laugh At Me ( important message at the end ) Lee Greenwood & US Airforce Band: God Bless The USA Any many more. They have 3 amazing songwriters in the group Tim, Austin and Chance So they have a very large playlist of covers and original songs End of the Road (Boyz 2 Men cover ) When A Loves A Woman Helplessly Hoping (5 part harmony masterpiece ) Unchained Melody Butts Medley/ Remix Listen To The Music Can’t Outrun You Brothers In Arms Stargazer Trilogy( All Originals written by Austin) Give Me A Sign ( Chapter 1) Stargazer Lilies( Chapter 2) MR (Chapter 3) Skull And Bones ( original written by Chance for Ubisoft new video game Skull And Bones) Might As Well Be Me ( Original) Playing With Fire ( Original) Remember My Name (Original) Oh Pretty Woman Life Is A Highway Stand By Me Cruise I Want Crazy Christmas In LA ( Newest Release Mayday(DON’T WATCH TILL YOU ARE VERY FAMILIAR WITH THE GROUP AND THEIR RANGES ) There's not a song that you pick from their 200+ catalog that is bad I haven't found one yet. They are just funny, down to earth, humble really nice guys. They are the best A Cappella group there is IMO Sorry for the long read

Austin Brown, the high tenor and first to sing, announced that he will be leaving the group this fall, but he may drop in from time to time. There’s no problem with the group, and they’re all good friends.

Yes, touring doesn't mix well with family life. I don't blame him, but it's sad that he won't be with them anymore.

HF Lineup: Beatboxer Adam Rupp is the last original member. Tenor Rob Lundquist (glasses) met the group in 2008, and was asked to join the party fairly quickly. Bass Tim Foust has been breaking sound systems since 2012. Tenor Austin Brown, the first soloist, came aboard in 2013. Baritone Adam "Chance" replaced group founder Chris Rupp in 2016. Brown has announced that he is leaving the group by the end of 2024, and the Home Fries are cautiously optimistic about how HF will adapt and move forward.

He has not yet klft the group and will be with them through until fall. And I wish people wouldn't talk as if he didn't already have a successful solo career. He will be writing and singing even more, and working on collabs, without the time wasted on going from one side of the country to the other.
@patriciamcl54
@patriciamcl54 5 месяцев назад
@@MrsRealistic He will still be singing!! He already has a considerable body of work as a soloist, mostly his own compositions, and can do far more if he's not touring.

These guys do a lot of upgrades to songs but also write their own fantastic songs. "Catch me if you can" and "Dive bar saints" are two of their own. They recently released a live version of their "Sea shanty medley" They sound just as good if not better live.

This is the song I always recommend to people to start out with Home Free! That Nomonica blows me away every time! And no one growls like Tim, he gives me quivers! I mean, imagine him doing that right in your ear, just feeling his throat vibrate while he growls...Whoooooo! I mean, er...uh...we...I...um... Sorry, what were we talking about? Anyway this is also one Geoff Castellucci, the Bass from Voiceplay, does a fantastic solo (is it really a solo if it's the same guy doing four to five {heh, Voiceplay in-joke!} parts?) Low Bass Cover of too. And he even added a bridge so perfect, I thought it was just a verse I hadn't heard before!
@larrywright4539

That was Chance doing the mouth harp/jaw harp/juice harp - take your pick, it's all the same. He was using a throat singing technique found in indigenous people's singing. Check out The Hu or Otykan for other examples of this.

what a great reaction. You picked up on so much. I don't know how many times I listened to it to get that far. Ok. here goes. Best solo - When A Man Loves a Woman; best cover - End of the Road; Funniest - Butts Remix; Best arrangement - Do You Hear What I Hear; Best Harmony - Brothers in Arms (or everything they do) Most shocking - Mayday (save it for later). My faves: One Man Band, Bless The Broken Road. and some of their individual stuff is awesome too. And the sounds are real. Seen 'em live twice. Welcome to one of the neatest rabbit holes, ever.
