AMAZING MODIFIED LOG SPLITTER

In this video, I take the modified Huskee 22 ton log splitter out and tackle some pretty good sized red elm and red oak rounds.
The splitter was originally modified by Frieden Welding of Elgin, Iowa.
Layne Frieden,owner of the business, is a long time friend and fellow classmate in school.
What he came up with is a simple but super effective system to make taking on these massive blocks less of a challenge. In fact, it is a real breeze. It makes this task so much simpler that I can now do it alone.
Grab a refreshment, have a seat, and enjoy watching this modified Huskee log splitter take on the big boys.
This has turned this rather ordinary box store splitter into the Chuck Norris of log splitters.

Hi Gary! Well you sure did turn a Volkswagen into a Cadillac of log splitters! It clearly makes the work a LOT easier and I can relate to that more and more the older I get. Great work!

Thanks Ben. Sure made this rather average and ordinary log splitter into a race car. Those blocks are still too heavy to handle alone. This sure solved that problem.

Thank you Kenny. It never ceases to amaze me as to how much easier this task of working with the big blocks has become now. These weren’t the biggest that I’ve had to contend with. They are still far too heavy to try and horse around without power equipment and that creates a good chance for someone to get seriously hurt. Now I can work alone… and usually do. Thanks for watching Kenny

Good morning Gary. That's a nice back-saving mod you did on the splitter. Being oak the rounds that size would be pretty darn heavy and your splitter mod made it easy to manipulate them. That's the 1st time I have seen someone burn down a tree like that. I gather it was a lot safer than getting under it to cut it down. Have a great day!
@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 7 месяцев назад
Thanks Paul. I stressed over that tree for more than two years. I was so afraid that it was going to come down on a cow or a calf. Jay and Kevin that rent the pasture from us were well aware of it and gave it a good wide berth. Last year, in cleaning up some downed basswood, I came up with the idea to pile it up around widow maker on all 4 sides and burn it down. It worked super well. Thanks for watching Paul.

How's she goin? Oh yeah, you got 'er done Gary! That was a good way to get the widow maker down!! That red oak looked too good to cut into firewood, but I understand why you're doing it!! That ended up being a nice load of wood and for those big heavy rounds, the hoist and winch on your splitter is the cat's ass for sure!! Thanks for sharing and take care!!
@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 7 месяцев назад
Thanks Mike. Boy that boom and winch sure leveled the playing field between me and those big blocks. She has taken on a lot bigger blocks than those but even these were more than I could handle. The biggest of these were a little over 28 inches across. The biggest I have handled to date were white oak over 40 inches across. Those were the ones we did this modification for. Sooner or later, someone was going to get hurt fighting with those getting them into the splitter. Thanks for watching Mike.

Thanks Rick. Part of the reason for the modification was so I could handle the big blocks alone. It was hard to schedule help from friends when our work schedules didn’t coincide. The other thing was the safety factor. Even working alone, it is just so much safer now. Thanks for watching Rick. It would still be a lot of fun to get to work together.

All that hand cranking wore me out!! I figured you would have either a 12 volt or hydraulic drive winch.. maybe a hydraulic round table 🤔 Or, being Tractor Talk with Gary, perhaps a loader attachment that would suck the log chunks in and set them in the splitter 🤔 Just something for you to think about.. Thank you Gary 👍

@tractortalkwithgary1271
@tractortalkwithgary1271 7 месяцев назад
Well I don’t watch football Will so I guess that leaves me to cutting firewood. 🤣 The winch and boom have certainly expanded this splitter’s capabilities or maybe just mine. It was built to handle some massive white oak blocks. Blocks 40 inches across. Biggest white oak I have ever seen. These red oak blocks in this video are about 28. Still too big for me to be wrestling with. Thanks for watching Will.
