Amazing Process of Repairing Caterpillar Gear 

I wonder why after doing , or doing all that job of extracting and removing all extremely delicate pieces, don't think about handling them more carefully ? Aren't they creating lots of more problems while fixing a problem. This is a matter of common sense, doesn't it ?

An amazing display of brute force in place of knowledge. I suspect the amount of damage done to those final drive components far exceeded the original problem. I'm pretty sure they will get to tear that whole thing apart in a couple of weeks.

No the big ones ah don't worry about the dirt and grit and watch it with that big cold chisel those are my new sandals . Call up your cousin see if hes still got that lathe working . TELL HIM NOT TO BEAT on those bearings we are gonna have to reuse them ....

As a field repair goes, pretty good. Of course any induction hardened components subjected to unequal heating with Welding as with this stub shaft will embrittle it and once under mechanical stresses it will probably snap in half.

I'm always astonished how these people still have all of their toes and fingers.

LMAO, they go to all the trouble of welding then machine the spinal to specs. Then throw it on the floor once pulled out of the lathe.

Is there anything that they cannot fix? I very much doubt it, definitely team work makes the dream work. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Recuerdo cuando trabajé en una empresa vial hace ya varios años y reparar esas D 8 con pocos medios era un dilema...desde Chaco Argentina

No gaskets, Silicone, or otherwise, as that geardrive requires lubrication, the new main bearings were not ‘packed’ with grease, just a smear on the outer ring and sides, no torque settings etc. They weld ‘filled’ the center surface of the reduction gear in the lathe, but never repaired or replaced the drive that has large chips of the chrome vanadium steel broken off. Indeed it is an astounding sight they still had their fingers, hands, toes, feet. In their part of the world it’s “djinsh ala”. I know it’s spelled wrong.

I wonder more about dust in the process!! Dust means nothing or them! Those gears are going to fall apart again, maybe is the nature of this dusty process is right!

They obviously don’t possess the correct tools…. Who owns the Cat? Tell them to effin fix it, the sooner they do, then everyone can go back to work. Unless this is owners work shop repair crew.

With simple tools they get the job done. I just wish they wear PPE (owner provided PPE)

What a good way to ruin a lathe Welding on it when it can be done separately away from the lathe And definitely no gear repair seen Just a hub on the lathe

Can Any body tell me why the guy rolls the oil seals in the dust before fitting them ??? Also hitting two hammers together is not a good idea !!!!!! ,greasing the bearings would be an idea too 😮 bless em 😊

Any final drive work on any large frame low drive Cats is about as hateful as it gets!…these guys are doing it in less than ideal conditions with rudimentary tools they likely made themselves…determined and skilled workers!!

That final drive sprocket is so wore out bet the chain is gone too. I’ve seen lions with teeth that weren’t as sharp
