Most unwanted Fish in Australia
Carp are an abundant invasive fish species that has been contributing to environmental degradation across the Murray-Darling Basin since the 1960s. Carp are an invasive fish species. Carp is considered a noxious aquatic species in Victoria, Australia.
In Victoria, It is an offence to release live carp (or any noxious species) into any waters. The maximum penalty (in court) is a fine of $14,084 for a first offence and $28,168 for a second offence. I would say, carp is the most unwanted fish in Australia. If you return Carp to the water in Victoria you are committing an offence!......
Carp is not easy to catch. It took me 5 years to learn how to catch carp. Carps are very smart and fishing them needs experience, patient and planning.

It absolutely amazes me that most westernurse in fisherman that I know have to have specialty fillet knives but when you actually watch a lot of other people and countries fillet the fish for using cleavers and regular butchers knives and chefs knives, and makes it look just so simple. You just impressed the heck out of me

You are welcome. My younger son thought the fried ones were calamari or onion rings. Lol. I really want to change perception of this fish. To be honest, I couldn’t eat them in the beginning but now I really like 👍🏽 it.

Yep. Thanks. I used to enjoy eating the intestines cooked by my late mom. She purposely cleaned it just lightly. A little bit of the gal bladder make the dish taste so good with rice. Yum 🤤

Tell me, does the cleanliness of the water affect how carp tastes in your opinion?
@corneliusoutdoors
@corneliusoutdoors 3 месяца назад
Up to a certain extent, maybe. Since the last video I posted, I have learned better ways to cook carp. The only difference I notice is the type of water they are in not the cleanliness of the water. A river carp tastes a lot better than a lake carp. Could be due to the activities involved. In rivers, the carp has to move a lot. Fighting the current, variety of food and so on. Similar to confined versus free range chickens. The texture and taste are different. So in terms of cleanliness of water affecting the taste? Not really. 😊👍🏽

For carp like this.. You just score the flesh... And deep fried until its crispy.. The bone will get crispy and doesn't need to be removed.. Just make sweet sour sauce to go with it and it's delicious

You say nothing goes to waste. Do you do anything with the gills? Does it go into your soup?
@corneliusoutdoors

That is correct. Just rinse it under running water. It turned greyish in soup. You can eat the girls right up to the frame of the gills. Yummy and crunchy. I have deep fried it before too. Really nice. Full of blood capillaries

@@corneliusoutdoors I'm glad you have a sense of humor. That's a rare thing to have now in the present day when so many people are so easily offended. I've just been watching videos on how to prepare common carp for eating. When I was a young child, my parents would catch and cook carp occasionally. Now I have access to fishing waters with giant carp living in them. After my childhood was over, I was always told that carp are "Trash-Fish" so they're not very good to eat. Been thinking about catching one and trying to cook it.
@corneliusoutdoors
@corneliusoutdoors 16 дней назад
@@timmontano8792 All good, mate! When I first arrived in Australia 8 years ago, I heard the same advice. After some research, I discovered that carp is in high demand in many countries, including Europe. We don't have this fish in Malaysia, and growing up in Borneo, fishing wasn't a pastime-it was a means of survival. I had to follow my dad fishing at night, often in the rain, paddling far while hungry, and using mainly nets or makeshift poles from palm fronds with 2 to 3-meter lines. It was a difficult ordeal, but it was necessary to find food. When I got here, I started using a fishing rod with a reel that I bought from KMart for $15. Learning how to use it and cast properly was a challenge, and I eventually gave up and went back to using a simple pole and line. It took me five years to learn how to catch carp effectively. Now, I enjoy free carp for dinner every night, though my family doesn't eat it. I've experimented with various ways to prepare and cook carp, including salting, pickling, drying, and fermenting. Recently, I even made Bottarga from carp eggs. I've recorded all of this on video but haven't had the chance to edit and post them yet. I hope to do so soon. So, you should definitely give carp fishing and cooking a try!
