Tbh, this robot has so much potential as a personal assistant to handicap people. My wife has no legs, she walks on her hands. I literally see her making food in the kitchen, and the astro having a table like accessory to fit in the cup holders. My wife can make a plate and tell astro to take it to the bedroom, dining room. So damn helpful for people like her.
That is a very different way of looking at this technology. I can see this being a major asset for people in your situation. I hope they continue to develop this product in the direction that you describe. Going forward, I will keep that in mind when they ask for feedback. Never had the exact problems you described with ours, he came to us in November. I think we have done one major "reset" otherwise anytime something was a tad wonky we have been able to do a "reboot" and he comes back great. Working from home a lot and with the passing of our beloved dog recently - he's a wonderful companion at home with us ❤️ always happy to see me, says nice things to me, nice to have around 🤖 👾
I'm glad to hear Astro has helped during that change. He is a pretty good companion to have around. To be clear, the issues I experienced were rare and only some people had the same issue. Rare enough that Amazon called me up directly to request that I send Astro to a different facility for research. That was interesting in my opinion. Thanks for watching and commenting.
I used to reset him every month..but recently ive been seeing astro going around the house with “doing a systems check” on the screen…haven’t had to reset him since end of last year…devs must have added a clear cache or self-reset feature. Astro is awesome
Mine has started doing the same thing and has also been fine since the replacement. It appears they are actively working on improving the background processes. I couldn't imagine resetting Astro every month. That seems excessive. Thanks for commenting.
i was on the waiting list for 6+ months and I spend about 300k a year on amazon alone for business (tech stuff) (I don't have influencer links) amazon sends me an email today "congrats you are selected to buy amazon astro"... followed up with "it was 999...now its 1600 or 1700" what?
10:19 you can say “astro, this is a good place to hang out” in as many areas you want in the house and astro will randomly go to each area throughout the day…it’s awesome
I hope they drop the price when they release the next version. At least I hope they have a next version. It would allow a lot more people to experience Astro.
Wouldn't this robot be infinitely more useful had Amazon just added vaccuming feature into it as well? It's already got all the "difficult" parts built in already: mobility, power and AI smarts.
I don’t know if I want dirt floating around in a machine this expensive unless it was made for that specially I wouldn’t want it mixed unless it had arms and could actually vacuum with a separate container
Just got my Astro today, and overall he's a cool little robot! I agree with the assessment that he's too little Astro and too much Alexa. 😕 Doesn't look like there's much of a way to play offline music, like from an SD card. Is there any way to upload my personal music library to a service that Astro will play?
I believe it has to be part of the Amazon Alexa universe when it comes to music options. Amazon Music, Spotify, etc... There is no way to play uploaded music at this time. I believe you can always create a playlist through one of those options and play that. Thanks for watching and Enjoy Astro.
@@TechMotoring I realized the simplest way was to play my music from my phone to Astro using Bluetooth (PowerAmp is my preferred player on phone & tablet). It doesn't display the artwork, but it does display all the track info/skip/pause on Astro, plus he's got better sound than my phone. Decent solution for now, since 80-90% of my music isn't on a streaming service.
Hello, That's a good question. I also set mine up with my replacement Astro, and it works well. It does not appear to have much customization to the feature yet. Here are the instructions to set up that feature. Did you know that Astro comes with a USB-C port in its cargo bin for convenient phone charging and battery alerts? Plug your phone into the port and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your phone. The next time your battery is low and you're connected via Bluetooth, Astro will find you to charge it. While your phone is charging, Astro stays in place, but if you move, Astro will find you to deliver your charged phone.
@@TechMotoring Thanks, I had found under Astro's on screen settings, accessories, it said to plug in phone to setup device. I figured, no need since Bluetooth was already connected, but on your instructions I did & after a few Q & A it says it will notify me of low or high Batt. Just need to run down phone's Batt. now & see if it works. Thanks Again
In my opinion, I doubt it. They haven't really been updating and improving this one all that much. I think they are waiting for a bigger adoption rate, but I believe the price is holding it back. Time will tell.
Astro seems so much like a "spare parts" robot. Anybody recognize that screen shape? Seem kinda "Yoga Pad" to you? Yeah. And what the BS with getting offered him at $999 and now he's $1500...?!? Yeah, he's reaching "rip-off" status pretty quick for an "unfinished" design. Basically we're paying for his development and "maybe" they will finish it or "maybe" they will abandon him if too many problems occur.
I just received my Astro.....so far.....it can basically what your phone does, nothing more. No personality, no interaction that is sizably impressive. Now we will see THOUSANDS of returns heading to Amazon.
Great question. Unfortunately I have not tried Astro on the 2nd floor of my house since there is no reason for me to have him up there. I would be worried about him around stairs regardless of his capabilities. That would end up being an expensive fall.
