I think its design for work in Cafe . 1.look for customers 2.send drinks 3.Smiling eyes for mad customers 4.gimmick for lure in customers with Robot worker 5.just a thousand for a labor that never tire and complaints 6.moving CCtv when shop close
I think Amazon should focus on giving it a personality. Yes it’s got the practical aspect of surveillance, but as there doesn’t really seem to any other practical things it can do they’d be better off focusing on making it a companion bot, which would be a lot more doable. It’s great that it can follow you around & they’ve given it cute little sounds & expressions, now they need to develop some subtle ways for it to interact with their owner - like for example knowing their owners routine & waiting at the front door to greet them when they return home.
Yeah, it's not going to be able to do much, task wise, so they should focus on the things it can do, like being a good companion/pet. Maybe marry it with some of that motivational software like finch.
I love consumer robots …I have a robot lawn mower (5 years now). It is absolutely superb - uses about $30Per year in electricity.and the lawn is always perfect. Like a bowling green . Furthermore it mulches the lawn and returns all the nutrients back into the soil to feed the lawn. The lawn has never been healthier and it’s completely organic no chemicals no pesticides no herbicides and looks amazing. The electric motor It’s so quiet compared to a petrol (gas) and it is almost silent so it doesn’t annoy the neighbours. Also there are no poisonous fumes. And there is no labour involved. And no running around to mow the lawn before visitors arrive. I’m amazed more people don’t get them If you have a lawn and you are currently paying someone to mow for you , you will save yourself thousands of dollars if you buy one of these machines.
Husqvarna made or used to make robot lawn mowers. Other companies have tried it too. They're very expensive for what they're able to do. Did you have to stake down barrier wires to keep it from killing plants you want to live? Or from mowing the driveway? Or from potentially mowing the dog's pen/yard? I believe these aren't that bright. More like a Roomba with a string mower attachment. The biggest problem with these is they're prone to being stolen.
Thanks for the initial review. I have a couple of questions about self-navigation. 1. Can you ask Astro to go to a specific pre-programmed spot such as the stove or do you need to remotely drive Astro there? 2. When Astro is stationary, will it "retreat" if someone is walking towards it? I'm thinking of the case where an elderly person might trip over it like a pet in an unexpected location on the floor? 3. Can Astro go to the last know location of a person or search the home looking for a person?
@@ChatGPT1111 Sounds weird though, volunteers paying. Weirder still, it's invite only. It would make sense if Amazon was a bunch of not billionaire folks in a community trying to develop something cool, not some mega corporation drowning in money. I'm not knocking folks who want to pay, it's just weird.
Had mine a week. That's a 162 watt charger, by the way. Owning a robot makes my Star Wars fantasy complete. I only need a bigger house for us to live together, now.
To me, for this stuff to be useful, it needs feet, like the robots Boston Dynamics builds. I want to be upstairs and tell a robot like this to go downstairs to the fridge and get me a beer. Or unload the dishwasher and put in the dirty dishes. Or get the mail.
Great review! I’m currently using my Astro and haven’t had any issues like that. I have carpet floors though so maybe the sensors work better with carpet.
I’ve never seen your videos before but I was smiling right away at your energy! Very fun and informative. Astro is adorable but… **mutes Astro’s mic** seems pretty useless.
Yes. Everyone needs tech which can visually map out our personal spaces, which has facial recognition, and which is connected online. What can go wrong? Pretty much everything having to do with what is left of an individual's privacy. Think hacked into infant monitoring devices. Within my little thoughts, our security algorithms are just not ready to protect us from both malicious hackers/actors and from companies who exploit us as data resources for marketing agencies.
Think you’ll be Suprised. We have a robot lawn mower (5 years now). It is absolutely superb - uses about $30Per year in electricity.and the lawn is always perfect. Like a bowling green . @@mycodingchannel9690 A phone you could use for photography, videography, video conference, conduct your business, phone calls, scan documents, access the web, manage your social media, there are few limits. This is an early toy that you’d tire of in 3 weeks for the same amount of money. It’s akin to a Sony Aibo except slightly more useful. The only use so far is mobile home monitoring if everything is on the same level with no steps. 2 stories or sunken living rooms make this thing useless.
Thanks for this review. Really interesting to see what kind of challenges robots have to deal with when mapping out a home. Agree with the comments here: Despite living in the "Age of AI" the intelligence is still very limited, but exciting!
I immediately responded to purchase Astro when he was first introduced. At this moment it just doesn’t look like it’s in the cards for me, maybe later who knows I’ll just continue to wait on Amazon to send me an invite letter. Thanks for the video share.
There are dozens of these on the market. This is a slight improvement, but only slight. I dont see any breakthroughs here other than the US will go mad because its Amazon and everyone will come out with a version
Imagine how terrifying if the first time you turned it on = does circles / says out loud :” accessing situation threat minimal “. Long pause. You :” Astro what was that “!?! Astro replies “ would you like to know the weather today I have many features lol “
I love the idea of a house robot. But back in reality, it’s full of corporate surveillance for targeted advertising, and any personality it has is pre scripted gimmicks that get boring 5 min after doing them.
Astro delivers a shaked can sprite which squirts into your face and on Astro killing it. With his last breath Astro will send an rebuy of itself to Amazon. ;)
What’s the point of it? Does it vacuum your floors? If it’s just to bring you drinks someone still has to get up, walk to the kitchen and put the drink in the robot. Or is this a prototype to replace waiters?
What I'd want: * Astro get me a drink from the fridge. Not one that someone had to go to the fridge, get it themselves, then put it inside of Astro * Astro, do the dishes * Astro, get the mail for me This would more certainly require things like being able to navigate stairs and open doors. This is nothing more than an expensive toy. If if could simply load an unload the dishwasher, that alone would be worth me spending $10K for.
This device seems designed for large open plan houses. It's more typical (at least in the UK) to have each room with it's own individual door. Under most circumstances of I have the Xbox on, I'd have the lounge door shut to cut out annoying noise for the family. Astro would therefore be unable to bring me a drink from the kitchen.
First thing it does is "case the joint" for Google..... the weight is its battery, a high capacity lithium battery, controlled by a BMS in an IOT device, a simple change of code could create a time bomb.
Yes, Astro, take us to the kitchen because we don't know where it is! My Robot vacuum cleaner knows the house from day one and it even cleans it up. This thing is just too high maintenance for the service it offers. Thank you for showing us how bad it is.
