This video is about the Amazon Echo Stereo Pair mode that amazon introduced last week. It works great with Amazon Music. But does not work with other devices over bluetooth. This was very disappointing.

maaan, i bought the second echo based on watching half of ur video, now received it, going back to how to pair both for my phone, realised it doesn't work.

So glad for your video. I just spent a few minutes on the phone with Amazon support confirming the same thing that you ran into with this video. I am so glad I did not purchase two new echo dots on the black Monday deal this is exactly what I was expecting to perform with the two new speakers. If they get it working one day it would be awesome to have it and the sub connected to my Fire TV. Thanks again for your video

Hi Craig! Thanks for trying this out! I too was disappointed having had the same idea and wanting to replace my sound bar with untethered speakers and a sub. That said I came up with another idea and have posted on Amazons FB page. Was instructed to submit it through their web site. So I did. Basically my other thought is, if I got the Echo Link Amp and if I mounted it behind my 75” TV and connected it via HDMI or Optical cable, would the Echo Link Amp Bluetooth connect to the two Echo’s and Sub providing the same result? ... Here was their response ... First of all, I would like to thank you for the writing us back with your query about the New devices that is going to launch. Upon checking the product page, there is nothing mentioned based upon your query. So we need to look into this and it'll take a bit more time than usual. However considering you as a valuable customer, I have forward this information to our client team to get the more information regarding this issue and asked them to update us. And to help you with this, I have made a personal follow up on your query and will update you once I received the update from our client team within 1 or 2 business days. Please be informed that we can't speculate anything about the product until it is released. No need to worry, once we received the update I will update you through email. Satyajeet Thatte Hmmm! Seems interesting. Wonder if the 2.1 Sub setup would work, but then again I was hoping to not be tethered and be able to place the speakers anywhere in the room without running wires.

Thanks Craig. I have paired two 3rd gen Echo Dots and it sounds OK, but it is definitely NOT stereo. No left/right separation at all. Very disappointed that It won't connect to the TV also. I have been disappointed with Amazon in the past and yet I still try to like the products. I doubt I will purchase the sub woofer as it will serve little value on a mono channel. Keep the informative and entertaining videos coming.

I’d love to setup a house-wide sound system with Echoes. But I’m not even going to start until Amazon gets over its power trip of dictating what the source of music can be. When it works for all sources, I’ll do it.

Hello Richard, I understand what you are saying. It is frustrating that you can't listen to anything. To play devils advocate. I have a feeling it has to do with other people not sharing with Amazon. RU-vid put the freeze on being able to play RU-vid videos on the Echo Show. The new version has a browser to circumvent that. Apple is probably demanding a big fee to be able to play on Amazon devices. Amazon has let Spotify, Sirius, iHeartRadio, Pandora and others work natively through Echos and Alexa. I think Jeff Besos is smart wants to offer as much as possible. Knowing Amazon is where you will shop more and will turn to. $1000s spent shopping is worth more then $150 prime music membership. Just playing devils advocate. I wish it would open up. We use Apple Music in my family. It would be nice for that to be our default music on Echos. The echos bring so much more value than the HomePod does. Hopefully Apple and others will wise up and take advantage of the Echos as a delivery service, instead of trying to take over the Echo business. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Hey Craig: Thank you for all the legwork that you have done for me. Although I am an Apple person, I am moving towards Echo speakers. Before each purchase of a new Echo device, I get some “re-assurance” ...making sure that I’m not wasting my money, by checking the pundits' opinions. When it comes to RU-vid, I have a choice of a sheer endless supply of hot air - Or coming to your channel - getting my information in 10 minutes - or less. You address most - or all of my questions - Are we kindred spirits??? Sorry for unashamedly doing the linguistic equivalent of humping your leg. Kudos where kudos are due, for me, you are THE authority of Echo devices.

It's a shame that Amazon does not think like everyone else developing a product should think like the end customer and not like ....I'm from Israel and I bought almost all of its smart speakers and I also have Google products with all that Amazon started before Google so friends Gogol thinks like the final customer, so today Google has taken one step more than Amazon and you dear friend you are just amazing and to be a member of your site With a blessed Crusimis for everyone from the Holy Land

I hear what you are saying about not thinking like the end customer. I do appreciate that Amazon does usually go back and revisit features more so then Apple does with its HomePod. very disappointing!! Why would Amazon only allow them to pair with their own music, absurd! I got the sub-woofer too and essentially it's now a big paperweight! Amazon mislead us on this, big time!! Total waste of money!!

Also highly disappointed that the feature doesn't work with the Fire TV. Was hoping to get stereo or even surround audio with multiple Echo devices.

Hello, it is disappointing that they did not get that worked out. My feeling is that the Devices do not have good enough Bluetooth to be able to maintain that kind of connection and not have a bunch a lag between the video and audio. 3 years later and I’m stuck in the same place trying to get both to work from my phone. I have two echo studios and the sub but when I connect my phone it only comes out of one. I can’t find a fix anywhere.

I cant play audio in both speakers via my laptop ive paired them and tried multi room but audio only comes through 1

Hello 2pac songs 2019, That is the bomber of the set up right now. It only works when streaming audio through the echo streaming services. Bluetooth disable it. I was hoping to hook up my fire TV cube and have stereo audio out of it. I tried all different combinations with no luck. But if you use any of the supported streaming services through the echo it works out fine. Thank you for watching. Have a great day.

I tried this with two echo 4s and had the same problem however I did sort it out by using a splitter cable and now I can listen to external sources in stereo too

@Tyrone Lebronson Hi I made one myself from cables I already had but you can buy them on Amazon, the one I made is 3.5 male to two 3.5 males so one is plugged into the tv headphone socket and then the other two go to the Echos jack inputs and you adjust it to line in on the alexa app, it works great there's no background noise and sounds awesome it does not interfere with the way that the Echo usually functions in other words the units still function as normal but you also have the luxury of adding outside sources such as a tv in stereo sound, there probably are other ways of doing it and also making it bluetooth but this works great for my needs.

Hello, my apologies for the delayed response. I have not heard of anything else that has been improved with it. Saturday my two echo plus (2nd gen) and my Sub arrived. They have a great Sound, were easy to pair and i am very happy now with them. Only Thing i dont know is here to use the temprature sensor in german. If i ask the temprature Alexa only tells me the weather from Internet. But this i will get soon i hope :-) Im looking forward to your review of this 2.1 bundle.

When you pair fire tv and two echos together, you need to clear any pair between those three devices you did, otherwise just those two paired devices working

Hello Aaron, it is quite disappointing. someone did mention that there could be video and audio syncing issues streaming audio over bluetooth. Craig a Massive THANK YOU from Jimmy in Liverpool UK. I had the exact same result as you only...I thought it was me not doing something properly and tried for about THREE hours to fix it! I have the new Echo Dot Alexa Speakers, bought two and have them bluetoothed to my Omen Laptop. Absolutely brilliant playing music, stereo sound excellent but then I watched something on Netflix ONLY ONE SPEAKER WORKED! So started the three hours! Then found your RU-vid Chanel when I then knew I was wasting my time trying to get the two echo speakers to work - deflated and I feel cheated!

They only have an aux out sadly.. no wired input on these. I also wanted to do this with my projector.

@@5elect5creen As of 11/26/18 the (new-2018) echo plus description on Amazons website reads: "Currently, stereo pairing, speaker groups, and multi-room music only support music playback over your wireless network, and do not support Bluetooth, 3.5mm AUX in, or TV/video connections" ...so, no. These speakers were quite disappointing. The only difference from the 2017 version is the sound quality and volume controls on unit.

I didn't think this new stereo pair feature worked with Bluetooth connected devices, I know there are Bluetooth speakers that allow for stereo pairing. Plus, pairing via Bluetooth will introduce lag into the mix, and you'll notice that if you're watching videos and listening to the sound via the Bluetooth connected devices, and you don't want lag. Does this stereo pairing feature work when playing music from Spotify? I really hope it does, because of it doesn't that would be most disappointing as I think Spotify is far better than Amazon Music Unlimited. In Australia at least, Amazon Music Unlimited isn't a very good service in my opinion, it's not good at all. Can you connect two generation 1 Echo Plus units together for stereo pairing?

Hello Lachlant1984, It was wishful thinking on my part. I can see what you are saying about bluetooth lag. I had noticed that before with certain speakers. According to the app it shows Spotify as supported. I do not have a premium account and cannot try it out. When going through the list of of Music services, Spotify, Pandora, Tune in are shown as supported. iHeartRadio does say unsupported. I have tried it with TuneIn and it is working well. I do not have the other services to see if they are supported. I have heard that Spotify is great. I am mixed on Amazon Music. The tough part is my family is all apple products and uses Apple Music. It is hard to justify switching to Amazon Music Unlimited. I've tried to listen to audio books through Audible on my fire tablet thinking it's all Amazon alexa equipped and nope... It only plays from both speakers in Amazon music.... I am disappointed, I have hearing issues so depending where I'm at in the room i can't hear it. Thank you for the video

You cannot have stereo ( 2 echo pairing) on a single plan ...... Only place Amazon tells you this , is in the pricing guide .. No where else on their site , tells you this , not even on their how to pair video etc . Not even on their product page .. It does not say you have to upgrade to a prime account to listen to amazon music in stereo . I have forwarded this information to Trading Standards as this breaks consumer law , by not disclosing further monies have to be paid

I tried this. And when i get to clicking on both speakers and sub, it allows me to click on either one of them but then unhighlights the sub and a speaker and says network error basically saying that I’m on not on the same at Netwerk however, I am. how do I fix that?

Hello Craig, Just watched this video 'after' receiving my second echo today intending to set up a stereo pair. Top marks for your presentation style, content and video quality - really good and made the process very easy to follow. Everything is working properly and I am quite impressed with the improvement over a single echo - the future purchase of a sub looks even more tempting now! Like others have said, it is disappointing to learn two speakers only work as a stereo pair when playing music from certain sources. This upgrade was mainly so my wife could enjoy listening to her favourite radio channel, 'Smooth Radio' in stereo but sadly, this doesn't appear possible. We are fine playing tracks and playlists from our amazon music account but I have just been trying to find out if there are 'any' radio channels over here in the UK which amazon echoes will play as a stereo pair... if not, and I suspect this may be the case, amazon drops a few marks for what could have been a much better proposition.

It is a big improvement and does work well. It is very disappointing that you can't use bluetooth to on a stereo pair. As for radio, have you tried TuneIn or iHeartRadio. Those are two supported services. I am not sure if they work in the UK. Those have been very good for radio stations in the US. Thank you for sharing your experience. So the summary is that you cannot get 'real world' audio stereo from any source. It's simulated stereo that only works from limited audio sources, namely Amazon Music and Spotify? Amazon suck in not being absolutely clear that these devices do not provide real stereo as understood by the majority of people interested in stereo audio output.

Hello Rinesh, you can use a fire TV Cube or an echo paired with a Fire TV stick. The fire TV cube does have an infrared emitter to turn on new and older devices. Hello Chero Chan, The stereo pair is meant to give you a separate left and right channels to create stereo sound. The multi room group is meant to have separate echos in each room. Normally echos have the left and right channels coming combine and coming out of the same speaker. This is how each Echo would behave in a group. Thank you for watching. have a great day.

Hello DorElev 28, I have not ordered a 2nd echo dot 3rd gen yet. The stereo pairing worked for last years model of Echo's. Amazon has the 3rd gen listed as supported for stereo pairing. I would think it would work as well being a newer device. The prices are great on them during this holiday season. You can even get 2 for $50 now. I hope this helps some. I've updated to latest software, now does "Stereo Pair / Subwoofer" only appear when there are two 3rd Gen devices connected? If so, I'll wait a few days when I should get my second 3rd Gen Echo Dot. Interestingly, I stand next to my 3rd gen Echo Dot and ask it to play music, and it plays through the speakers connected to my 2nd Gen Echo Dot!

Hello Ian, There should be the option when you hit the + in the upper right hand corner of smart devices. The bottom choice should be stereo pair/subwoofer. I had two second generation echos plugged when I tried it. Even when I only had one plugged in, I would see the option. That is weird that it’s not showing up. As for music playing on the second generation over the echo dot, that is interesting. I had never heard of that happening before. Are both echoes on the same account. I would suggest restarting the echoes. You could also see if it needs an update. If you put the echo on mute, unplug it, plug it back in, leave it muted and let it sit for a couple of hours, it will look for an update. I wish I had a better answer. Thanks for watching. Thank you. I guess I’m not crazy. I set up two echoes in my bedroom, stereo paired them, played some amazon music. I can’t hear any separation. Two speakers playing mono. After messing around for two days, I’ve concluded it must be a software bug. The app asked me to select a right or left speaker. Pointless in the current situation. I am also disappointed that my Tidal subscription is useless for this setup. Hopefully amazon is aware of this issue and is working on a fix.

Hello Dave, that is interesting. It is disappointing that you can't do services over bluetooth. I am traveling now and need to play with stereo pair more and listen to it closely. When I tried pink Floyds money, it sounded very distinct that there was a right and left channel. I do hope that it is only a bug that can be fixed. I did a test using “left right center” audio samples from Spotify. Definitely mono. There does seem to be a spacial sense to the music but I think it’s a delay trick. Don’t get me wrong, I love my echos for smart home and harmony integration, I’m disappointed with this stereo pairing thing. If you’re getting separation with Pink Floyd Money, then I’ve done something wrong with my setup. I can’t imagine where I messed up though. The steps are pretty straight forward. Cheers.

This was my thought, as well. Mine is also mono without the separation, just two speakers playing at the same time. I thought it was just me but this explains it perfectly plus I wasn't able to choose the respective speakers for left and right! Very frustrating! 😤

Craig's Tech Talk I have my combo in the kitchen. Because of work schedule I haven’t had much time with it yet. I’m not sure if can hook the sub to multiple groups or if I’m just limited to the pair. (That will be disappointing). Will find out soon

Nope one sub one stereo group. You can have the sub in 1.1 or 2.1 configuration with compatible echo devices. But now you can have the Sub pair in a multi room music. Also with the new update you can have an echo device in more than one multi room music group where as earlier you only could have an echo device in one multi room music group.

Thanks for the video. I bought 2 echo plus' to get stereo and discovered several issues. I used to send the music from my echo via blue tooth to my HiFi in another room. Unfortunately this no longer works because of the stereo pairing, It connects, starts to play then disconnects when it tries to send music to the 2nd Echo and the HiFi. The other issue is that I had the single device 3.99 subscription for Amazon Music Unlimited. I assumed that as it was just 1 song playing in stereo that it would still work. But alas, Amazon want you to upgrade to the 9.99 version because you are streaming music to more than 1 echo. You simply get samples of the track you want and get asked to upgrade. I spent 2 hours on the phone to customer service and got no joy out of them. Most of them had net to no idea about stereo pairing anyway. A huge disappointment. A tech note: Amazon said that the 2nd echo isn't a slave speaker being sent the other channel, it actually streams the individual channels to to each echo from the cloud. Not sure how true this is, as very few amazon people knew what was going on. On the plus side, if you ask for the radio via Tunein you get it in stereo. Spotify streams in stereo and it looks like apple music is coming to Echo in December too, so I can ditch the echo subscription.

Hello Steve, You are welcome and thank you. I am sorry to hear that the stereo pairing has messed with your existing Bluetooth setup. It is disappointing with the limitations of the stereo pairing. Also very disappointing with the way that Amazon has handled the single echo plan and stereo pairing. It should really be looked at as a single device when they are paired. As for the streaming 2 separate channels from the cloud, that sounds odd to me. I find that to be an interesting answer. That sounds like way more work then a stereo stream being fed to both devices and the echo internally outputting only one channel. I never know what to think with some of these support people. Glad to hear that some of the other services are working well for you. I really do hope there is no limitation on Apple Music when it comes out. Hopefully it will work like prime music and the others. I want to be able to do multi-room audio groups and stereo pairs if I want. When it comes out I will do a video and share what I find. ... update to previous comment... visited the radio station, noted all tracks in the playlist and created a new playlist in amazon music which now plays in STEREO, no talking and no adverts... As the old saying goes... "where there's a will, there's a way!"

Thanks Craig, great video. Question: could you connect your two Amazon Echoes with an audio cable, instead of using Bluetooth? It sounds to me like Bluetooth is a one-at-at-time protocol -- you can either connect an Echo to your Fire TV, or you can connect one Echo to another Echo. Can't do both at the same time. So maybe if the Echoes were linked using a cable instead of Bluetooth? I have a different puzzle. I bought a Bluetooth speaker for my wife's nightstand, to get a wider stereo image on the crickets we like to sleep to. Alas, pairing the Dot to the speaker SHUTS OFF the Dot. You have a choice of HIS nightstand or HER nightstand -- but not both. This seems to be the case for either Bluetooth or the audio cable. My world is shattered!!! Hoping the Amazon team addresses this in a future software update...

Hello Rcarlberg, thank you very much. I am glad that you enjoyed the video. Unfortunately you can only use the audio cable as an output of audio to an external speaker. It is annoying that it shuts off the echo speaker when it is connected. The only real option to play across two speakers would be to have 2 echos as a stereo pair and playing music from a supported Echo service. Or, putting two echos into a Multi-audio speaker group, then requesting a song/sound. Both options only play from a supported music service. I was able to play Ocean sounds on my office group consisting of an echo show and an echo dot. If crickets is not available it would not be an option. It would be nice if stereo pairs were opened up to the bluetooth streaming. Thank you for sharing and for watching. Have a great day.

The Alexa Plus has a line in and a line out correct? Could the master not be paired to the device and the slave receive audio from the aux cable? I suppose it would be mono if it would work.

Hello DJ Tress, Unfortunately you are not able to use the AUX as an input. Once you do use it as an output it disables the speaker that is out putting. So there is not a way to have both speakers playing at the same time using the AUX. Once you start using Bluetooth to connect up two devices, it disables the multi groups of echoes. With my WiFi it was a bit buggy on echo dot gen 3. I wish they kept the micro usb power cord so I could Ethernet into it. Instead they used some old style round hole power input. Amazon makes a Ethernet adapter but only for Ethernet devices.

Hello David, sorry to hear it was buggy for you on Wi-Fi. I hope that’s been cleared up for you. Yeah it is a bummer that they had to switch for micro USB. The new generation threedogsuse twice the amount of power. That is what helps with the sound quality. They had to move over to a separate power supply to accommodate the extra power. Hello Rob, it is annoying that it doesn’t work over bluetooth and limited to supported streaming services. The good part about the sub is that it connects directly to a pair or single sub. I actually returned my sub. It was too big and didn’t offer enough for me. I believe you can still stream bluetooth to echos paired with a sub. I might be wrong though. Thank you for watching. They tried to do what the HomePod and other speakers are doing with stereo pairing. But it’s a disappointment when you realize that it’s limited. If you have an Apple TV, and you want stereo sound, a pricy but very loud with beautiful sound option is 2 HomePods stereo paired together.

Hello, the only real solution is multi-room audio for more than one echo. But you need a wifi connection for that. Unfortunately you can’t use the echos with out a wifi connection. They are worthless without one. It is frustrating. Thanks for watching.

Hello Lucas, I hope you enjoy your echos. You can pair the two into a stereo pair, but it will only work with streaming services. If you have a fire hd 4k or fire tv cube, you can pair two echos to act as a stereo pair for watching video. Damn it man. I wish that I had seen this before I bought my second Echo Studio. I have a fairly elaborate setup. I run my gaming computer to my computer monitor and a TV, then just switch screens depending on what I'm doing. The second HMDI chord actually runs underneath my floor into my TV. Anyways, I wanted to run the speakers in a pair using Bluetooth. My question is: If I were to buy an Auxillary chord splitter and just plug both of the speakers into my computer, would I essentially have a pair by bypassing Bluetooth?

I just got a second Echo and paired them but the limitations ARE very annoying. I’m an Apple Music subscriber so only took out the low cost Amazon Music Unlimited subscription for my original Echo. Even THAT music won’t play through stereo paired speakers which is plain stupid - I get that they want more of my money but not allowing my first Echo to ‘share’ with the second when paired is just mean. Only music available with my Prime membership (very limited) will play on both speakers. So - I guess it’s that or pay for full Amazon Music Unlimited membership. Not happy. Great video though 😊

Hello Chris, I agree that the limitations are annoying. I am an Apple Music subscriber and wanted to bluetooth connect to a pair. I was disappointed their own fire TV cube would not do stereo sound. That is really annoying you can't use your one echo service across the pair. That does not make sense. Technically, you are still streaming on one device. I wouldn't separate the pair into different locations. Thank you for sharing this limitation. Hopefully the will do something to change this. The good news is you can get a $.99 trial for 3 months of Amazon Music Unlimited. Just have to remember to cancel at the end. Thank you for watching. Have a great day Chris

Hi Sharon O- I was in the same boat as you (thinking it was me and not the Echo's inability to link up to the Bluetooth tv in a stereo pairing); I was going nuts trying to make it work! THEN, I saw this Craig's Tech Talk video; I could have saved hours of frustration by watching the video first. I, like Craig, am disappointed that my Echo Dots won't pair up on a Bluetooth connection. Oh well- lesson learned.

bought an amazon echo recently and have had nothing buy problems with it. the music stops and starts i have tried resetting the device unplugging it and plugging it back in and still havving the same issue i even called tech support and i am still having the same issue Any help would GREATLY BE APPRECIATED

I am not sure why it would be doing that. I would ask them to replace it. If it is having that many issues. Since you bought it recently, they should replace it or tell them you will return it.

Great video! I recently got a second Echo(2nd gen) and set it up for stereo with my other echo. I use Spotify mostly, and I haven't noticed any stereo sound. Is this what most people are experiencing? I have tried with Amazon music and am hearing the same thing (no stereo). Hoping an update fixes this problem if others are experiencing it. Thank you!

Hello Jason, I am sorry to hear that you are not getting a stereo pair. When I set it up and was listening to Pink Floyds Money, I could clearly hear the separation. But, I have heard from some others that it is a simulated stereo, but not a true stereo. I am not sure about it. I do hope they do get an update to improve on the stereo experience. Hi, interesting. I use an old Bose 5 channel 4000 System that is connected to a Samsung Smart TV that is great. The Pod is connected to a Sonos that is connected to Spotify, Amazon Music & Audible Books. I also use a Revo Super C Super Connect that sounds great. In UK & here in France Amazon have a deal with 2 Echo Pluses & a sub for £299.97. Love my gadgets BUT really can't talk myself into buying it! Oh well...

Craig, I'm confused! 😕 I tried pairing my 2 3rd Gen Dots and don't see the screen showing the 2 speakers altho music is coming from both speakers, unless the format has changed since this video. Do I have to have an Echo Plus or sub for this to work? I even called Amazon's tech support who first tried telling me I needed a family plan to have both speakers work at the same time! Finally....I asked Alexa to play your "go-to" song and it came out of both speakers! So it appears I have the stereo sound without actually pairing them! The screen where you can designate left or right never appeared, neither did it show the respective speakers. I'm assuming you know more than their tech support did so I'm depending on your expertise. Thanks so much! 👍

Hello Lyla, that is weird. I just tried a pair and it gave me the left and right option. I wonder if one of the Echos software is out of date. You can try to mute them both, unplug for 30 seconds, plug them in and leave them muted for a couple of hours. If left alone like that, it will check for an update. Maybe that will get them in sync. You should have to specifically pair them and pick a left and right. I hope that works. Have a great day.

@@CraigsTechTalk I was doing some research on Amazon's site www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201602210 and found a tip to ask Alexa/Echo "check for software updates" and whaddya know....they both had one waiting which will take about 30 min! ☺️ Hoping this will solve the problem! 🤞 Will keep you updated! 👍
