Amber O'Hearn - Why Would Someone Adopt a Carnivore Lifestyle

Amber O'Hearn's discovery of the carnivore diet to address her weight loss stall on the keto diet. Not only did her weight normalise again, but she also noticed her depression and other psychiatric problems not only improved, but cleared up completely. So instead of reverting to the ketogenic diet after her weight came back down, she has remained on the carnivore diet for about the last 10 years now and is absolutely thriving!
Best way to get hold of Amber is through Twitter: @KetoCarnivore

I have been carnivore for a little over 6 months now and this is the time of year that I'll catch a cold and it turns into pneumonia; I'm pleased to say this year was different; I caught a cold but it came and went quickly and no pneumonia!

@Wu Me this makes no sense to me. Fasting speeds my recovery of all things. If my body wanted more or certain foods, it would ask for it. Digestion comes at a price, it costs a large amount of energy. This energy can be used for healing if you don't blow it on useless extra meals.

@@billyjean6419 Not saying at all it is so in your case, but not getting a cold, could also mean the body is not able to work up an immune response; like when giving statins to someone before an organ transplant suppresses immunity by inhibiting cholesterol production. This could for example be why vegans claim not to get sick often?

Two reasons I don't eat plants...(except coffee at the moment...working on that one !) a) I just love feeling so well. b) they all contain anti-nutrients which strikes me as a waste of nourishment ; if an animal has to die for me to thrive, the least I can do is make the very best use of the nutrients made available to me.

How long did it take for you to get cured?
@jes4026
@jes4026 4 года назад
I'm not cured but, my symptoms have been kept at bay since being a carnivore diet for 5 months. Before that, I was on a very low carbohydrate diet for 3 months. Initially, I was on the GAPS diet until I realized the plants were making me sick. When the GAPS protocal wasn't helping me, I started researching ancestral diets. I realized my ancestors did not eat many plants and had strict preparation methods when they did eat them for health reasons. So, I cut down on the plants, peeled and boiled everything, didn't drink the plant water or eat any seeds. After about 30 days of doing that, I noticed my joint pain was gone. That lead to learning about oxalate toxicity and the carnivore diet. My progression to low carbohydrate eating was gradual. Once I was just eating a few plants, I switched to full carnivore. I do have periodic oxalate dumping symptoms but, they pale in comparison to how bad I felt when I was eating plants. It's not a fast process but, I'm definitely healing.

Hi Chelle, Initially, I was buying the most expensive organic pastured beef, pork and eggs. Organs were also included. It started out this way because my baby and myself were struggling with symptoms and I didn't know what would tolerate. It did became cost prohibitive. Now I buy the best quality meat I can afford. We mostly eat beef and beef organs, we also eat sustainably caught wild fatty fish and seafood, organic pastured soy free corn free eggs when available, occasionally other ruminant animal meats like pastured pork, lamb and wild meat. We also eat a decent amount of organic grass fed beef liver and suet now. I do notice a difference when eating grass fed liver and I think it's because of the K2 content. My toddler is nursing still so, when I don't get enough of certain nutrients I can tell fairly quickly. Getting enough vitamin K2 and omega 3 is quite noticeable. Since my child is very sensitive to lactose and we are both sensitive to casein, we aren't eating dairy. Maybe one day it will be tolerated. We eat calcium from animal and fish bones. We don't eat poultry because of wheat, corn, soy sensitivities. I've heard there are other carnivores who don't tolerate chicken well either. We both have oxalate toxicity so, even if we try other foods in the future it will be low oxalate choices.

Because we discovered agriculture 10,000 years ago, before we discovered animal husbandry. Also, we (as a species) need more calories than we could get through animal husbandry (ranching). It's 2,000,000 calories for agriculture vs. 600,000 per acre from ranching, by some estimates. As the population reduces (Western world and much of the 2nd world countries are already at population collapse, while other nations are approaching it), we will no longer need to have 2,000,000 calories per acre. The question is whether the population reduction will be fast enough for many to switch over to a meat-based diet and reduce/remove plant matter from our diets. I do know that, if we tried to completely switch over to a meat-based diet right now, our population would collapse from starvation. We literally can't support our population on meat, simply due to the realities of math. I expect that it will be a couple of centuries before we can, just because our population will not truly get to a manageable number for a LONG time. It may be longer, as longevity medicine and treatments will start to advance in the next 50 years to the point where life spans are indefinite. that's a completely separate conversation, though.

Hi, Chelle. Many vegetables are high in sulfur, but animal foods also contain it. However, I think it's easier to find out if a carnivore diet would help you simply by trying it than by making a hypothesis about what is causing your health problems and then trying to figure out if a carnivore diet matches that hypothesis.

Amber followed up with her answer: Glycogen does not stay in meat after death. The cells continue to process it anaerobically until it's gone. Carbs are typically calculated by subtraction of known non-carb substances. In liver, it's likely lactate that's leftover.

Sympathetic dominant state because of chemical, physical and/or emotional stress; this results in release of cortisol etc.; thus suppresses thyroid and metabolism in general, and leads to weight gain - especially in area that serve as protection for organs. Look into various ways to reduce stress, for example detoxify (research the many ways to do this) - including fasting, deep sleep - in correspondence with daylight/nightdark cycle, regular exercise, deep breathing, and various other ways of vagus nerve stimulation, regular sun exposure, grounding, prayer & meditation, etc.

Personally got much value from high dose vit C supplementation; believe under stressful conditions we need much more than what is currently seen as needed. Vit C works with glutathione; is a natural anti-histamin, and can play a huge role in detoxification of metals and in breaking down calcifications. For more than a year I used 70mg/kg/day (for men it is 90); this together with magnesium, B Vitamins, Brewers yeast, Zeolite powder and Omega 3's; this to heal from asthma and seasonal allergies (currently still symptom-free and off all medications). MD Suzanne Humphries has an excellent YT lecture about using C - delivered in Sweden; as do MD Russel Jaffe (VITAMIN C FOR HEAVY METAL DETOX)
