Including the Prism cooler on 65W chips is pretty generous. On my "65W" 5700G the Stealth cooler only held up to ~90W before throttling so I ended up spending buying a Gammaxx 400 on sale. I probably would've been happy with the Prism and saved the cooler money, had they included it.

AMD said at CES that lower cost MBs are on their way. DDR5 prices have come down because few people are building systems with it. For both AMD and Intel, Zen 3 is wildly successful, maintaining about 6 - 7 of the top 10 best selling spots on Amazon. I think it's safe to say that sales on Amazon are representative of how people are buying in general, so Zen 3 is easily winning over the last few month. But then Intel 13th, 12th gen work their way in, probably mostly with DDR4 and then you get Zen 4. But this is all about to change because as I said DDR5 prices have come down because few few people were buying it, AM5 MBs will exist that cost less, and now there's the 7600 and 7700 and really the 7900 is looking excellent. But gamers are still waiting for Vcache. I would be if I didn't have the 5800X3D already. The amount of uplift in gaming performance for CPUs since 2018 is more than 100%. The 7800X3D or 7900X3D are going to be outstanding gaming CPUs for many years. But I'm waiting for Zen 5/6.
@lostintechnology1851
@lostintechnology1851 Год назад
Better to wait friend, amd fucked up the cooling on those cpus big time and gives me ivy bridge flashbacks. I really hope they change the design for Zen5/6. Also 4K gaming is really still not a thing for newer titles unless you go to massively expensive territory which sucks since 4k monitors make fonts look so good. I have a 5800x with a 6900xt and 14 cl RAM which still struggles a lot. But I am not seeing myself buying a 1200W psu to power those newer components. Hopefully in a few gens things get more up to high resolution displays without a system drawing 1000watts while gaming.

I'm interested in compatible openCL[sycl] linux-driver x hardware combinations. Not high end workstation builds, it would just be nice to have some working gpu compute availible on a mid-range machine, as a hobbyist testing stuff.(Once the stuff works I can rent some GPU server time if more power is needed.) I've been burned on a couple builds in the past that should have been good to go in theory; but oops just kidding, you got the GPU geeration with the bug, or that GPU is incompatible with the motherboards version of PCIe for gpgpu purposes. General gpgpu benchmarks would be interesting anyway, I've always been curious how compute performance is effected by the different core arrangments and workstation vs gaming card, how strong is the correlation between gameing FPS and compute workloads.

question. what happens to these cpus if you do the pbo eco mode stuff with them and can you even do it/does it improve any performance? i'd imagine it won't improve performance the way it would with the x series chips if at all. i ask because im eyeing the b650e steel legend board pairing it with a 7700 or 7900 non x with some kind of amd card. nvidia and intel are just too expensive and power hungry at the same time compared to what amd can offer. my 12400f and 3070 is doing ok but i hate how limited i am with my tweaking of the 12400f and gsync has been a worse experience than freesync for me on this monitor.

@ThunderKat
@ThunderKat Год назад
Even with a mid-range GPU when it comes to games I would pay extra and get the 3D-cache version to help with RTS games... Now if the price is right there no need for the X version when you have the 3D for those seeking extra performance but with overall PC cost adding a better cooler and paying the same for the X is a better option since your PC is more future proof, same as putting a overkill PSU for this low TDP lines. This none X look like a great option for pre-build computers with cheap components on it.

I bought an unsocketed 5800 prior to the general release of the 5000 non-X SKUs precisely because I wanted 8 cores but at the lower power draw for my preferred ITX form factor. Hopefully the DDR5 and PCIe5 cost to manufacture for motherboards comes down when I'm ready to upgrade.

i dont think they will become go-to parts because they're sub-par performers in multithreaded. which isn't really all that important but the people willing to drop high end gamerbux on a cpu are probably not just gaming, they are streaming or doing vr shit, which according to my coworker is pushing a 5700x to its limit. i'm not sure that the 5700x3d is filling a market segment that people actually want or need - it's basically a modern 9900ks but in a world where the market doesn't want or need that.

Honestly energy is so expensive at the moment that part price is not a factor like it usually is, providing it's not a scalped price listing of course. I might actually consider moving off mobile back onto desktop again if they can produce something that is actually power efficient when paired with a current gen AMD gpu in particular as we know they draw less for the same performance from the wall compared to Nvidia current offering even though they perform higher overall. Hope it's not just me cause this seems like the more sensible approach unless money is no object what so ever then fair fine no worries.
@eclipsegst9419
@eclipsegst9419 Год назад
Huh? Power is cheap in first world countries and anywhere it isn't there are politicians that need hanging. Anyways, if you REALLY want power efficiency its more about how many cores you buy than what brand. My 3300x won't use over 55W even overclocked to 4.5 all core. Also, Intels aren't that thirsty, they just look bad when pushed to the limit because they are capable of bonkers clockspeeds, but for gaming loads and at an idle they are actually more efficient than AMD. Ill be going back to Intel because ill save more keeping my DDR4 and on motherboard cost than power savings could net me in 10 years. And just in general, normal people don't load CPU to 100% all day. Those numbers don't mean anything without context. Gaming power draw with a normal GPU limitation is far more relevant.
@TheOriginalJAX
@TheOriginalJAX Год назад
@@eclipsegst9419 Well I live in the UK and this year my bill is 5X higher than last years this winter so far and the only thing keep energy prices down at all is the government enforced price caps, Which are artificial and going to result in sustained high prices for the foreseeable future to offset any losses from the current cap enforced. Socialism is great until you actually try it because that is what price caps are, socialist economic policy. It's not core count per say but core distribution because of the chiplet architecture design. because 4 cores per chiplet, Which is also why the 6 and 8 core models draw similar amounts of power because they both require 2 chiplets to house the cores on the SOC. Saying that if they squeezed out a 4 core variant of the 7000 series that would be interesting. Interestingly I have not seen enough data yet to see whether intel is actually more efficient overall or say majority of instances in just gaming, But nobody is really doing the work either so no surprises honestly. Problem is certain games favour intel and others AMD which muddies waters further as this is normally down to platform specific optimisations, Like limiting games to 2 too 4 cores which most was an optimisation targeted towards Intel CPU's in turn knee capping even more AMD's pseudo FX chips which were not that good to begin with, I stayed on a phenom II true six core because of all this and never lagged so far behind the intel chips that required me to upgrade, Then I jumped on the Zen 1600X naturally but this was back when electricity was actually cheap, so I could just keep oc'ing my phenom II to keep up in terms of raw single core performance so efficiency did not matter in the same way it does now. I agree with what you saying overall, it is context dependent in terms of use case and workloads and how they tax the hardware. Cause yes gamming workloads are inherently different to productivity in this regard. you will average less heat and power consumption cause like you said most games do not pin cpu/gpu to a 100% 100% of the time it's running, usually, normally lol. some games just don't bother with optimisations at all and the best thing to do is to just down clock the gpu to stop wasting power in those scenarios. so you see what I am saying here while I'm not jumping on Intel just yet I'm not ruling them out either, As there are hardware combinations that yet to be released and tested this generation being why.

Unlike AM4 in a general sense, AM5 hasn't landed well enough. And unless they can fire up the whole platform, they are in danger of being still born. 7 series and AM5 isn't selling well, and just has not taken off. There is stiff competition from intel in the space. The energy efficiency is great, but having to buy a whole platform to get there - is a issue. They should really consider doing an AM4 variation of the 7 family. I think they are also missing the boat with their most terrific mobile platforms. The 6800 Mobile (family) + 680M - needs to ship in an AM4 and AM5 package. Low power, great performance. Has an absolute place in these terrible energy cost times.

My dad sent me a link to something showing AMD releasing an AM4 chip with Zen4 cores strapped to the 5000 series I/O die. I have no idea if that would even be possible or if AMD would actually do that.

@AdmV0rl0n I guess anything is possible. It would really be if the juice is worth the squeeze. With the absence of lower cost mb, it would be good for AM4 users with existing boards and DDR4. Probably hurt AM5 adoption though.

AMD needs 10 core chiplets and they need to reduce the price per core closer to or below $35 per core.
@joemarais7683
@joemarais7683 Год назад
They don’t need to reduce the cpu price. They need to stop gouging AIBs for their chipset pricing, and incentivize them to not sell AM5 boards for double the price of equivalent LGA 1700 boards. All these CPU releases are just smokescreens to distract from AMD’s inability to compete in platform pricing overall

I dont agree with the 7700 being the better choice. The price cascade is just too ridiculous. The 7700 seems to be in a bad spot in my opinion. You should either go all out (7900) or just get a 7600 (when the X version is 20 bucks or more expensive) and enable PBO.
