I plan to retire at 62 in another country outside the US that is free, safe and very cheap with a high quality of life. I could fully just rely on only my SS if I wanted to when that times arrives but I'll also have at least one pension, a 403 (b) and a very prolific lnvestment account with my Abby Joseph Cohen my FA. Retiring comfortably in the US these days is almost impossible. I honestly don't understand why people don't move to another country when they get older in retirement.

I was a stay at Home mom with no money in my IRA or any savings of my own, which was scary at 53 years of age. Three years ago I got a part time job and save everything I make. After 3 years, I am 56 yo and have put $9,000 in an IRA and $40,000 in my portfolio with CFA, Abby Joseph Cohen. Since the goal of getting a job was to invest for retirement and NOT up my lifestyle, I was able to scale this quickly to $150,000.

This is interesting. I'm willing to start saving properly or at least have a good investment. Please tell me more about it. I'm an amateur investor, i have 2 IRAs, I do not like the cookie cutter responses from; Fidelity, Vanguard Schwab, etc 7% -9% year on average. How do you invest?

The average single American male with no kids pays almost 40% of every dollar he makes in some form of taxation. Whether it be federal, social security, medicare, medicaid, and self-employment tax, state, local, sales, or property taxes. You lose $.40 of every dollar. While getting the lowest amount of entitlements from the government. You're basically paying for single mothers to exist. Also, remember that almost all of the federal taxes you pay go only to the interest on the national debt. Have a nice day!

Things were also way cheaper back then boomer.y parents bought their house in Miami for $100k and that was in 1994 so you cannot make such a comparison. Not everyone is irresponsible with their money. An average house in Miami now is about $800k!

Do you guys really think picking one partisan political party over the other is going to “solve” anything? Trump deficit spent like crazy, so both parties are at fault.. tax cuts do result in higher deficits because neither party is able to reel in spending.. the economy is WAY too dependent on gov’t spending for either side to pull back on spending.. they keep putting off the inevitable recession and it could get ugly..

Deficit spending is propping up the housing market and fueling increases in home prices. As long as the Govt is spending obscene monopoly money, prices will increase. As a side note, get ready for huge price increases in groceries next year as UNFI, a large grocery Distributor, is increasing fees by 500% starting Jan 2025. Those increases in fees will be passed on to the consumer...hyperinflation is just starting!

It's not that people can't afford homes, it's that they don't want to afford a home. People can't afford homes because they're bad with money. It's so easy to save and buy a home when you get serious about it, even at these prices. Get off your butt now, or lose the opportunity to ever own a home. This is where we are headed very soon; Owning a home will be similar to owning your own Airplane, most people won't be able to.

I wish you could file bankruptcy for student debt. I think if we implemented that, we wouldn't need student loan forgiveness. That sounds like a fare trade to me. The best answer would be to make higher education free, so as a population, we could innovate faster. Even better, we help these kids learn how to read and do math because I am afraid the next generation won't have any more lawyers, engineers, or doctors.

Colleges took government backed money and gambled with it in the private credit market knowing they would have a continuous stream of every growing income from more and more students. But now student population growth is shrinking and all those endowment funds are going to go bust.

@@winniethepoohandeeyore2 lets be honest here. The borrower is 18. And we voted to allow 18 year olds to get hundreds of thousands in debt. We caused it by privatizing schools. If schools were cheap or free, there’d be no debt. If we allow schools to charge 25-40k per year thats what they will charge. 18 is hardly old enough to understand debt, or the gravity of 100 thousand dollars. Basically taking advantage of young adults. Its like hacking a elderly person, or conning them out of their wealth. You dont take this attitude when grandma agrees to give her life savings in giftcards, because someone told her she had to.

The tax cuts for billionaires cost a LOT more than the student debt, and the latter are more stimulative for the economy (greater GDP multiplier effect). I would understand being against both on principle, but at least the latter are targeted towards the working poor (people outside the 1%) as opposed to the top 0.1% like the former.

@@prolific1518 What hyperinflation? They've been doing a great job of letting it out and then filling it back up and then letting it out with each inflate ATH. So if you are making ATH's while inflation remains level all good. Inflation only occurs when they send printed money to households.
