Also the petrochemical industry can produce many valuable chemicals that are very useful to human civilization as a whole. So it makes sense to save oil for that purpose instead of burning it in cars (and create CO2 pollution in the process btw).

Why has US productivity gone up 400% in the last 40 years yet wages have only risen less than 15%, and that is mostly on the top end or workers, while the poor are earning less. The more people with disposable income, the more people can afford to buy new products and services, thus enlarging the entire economic pie. But that means you have to understand that your neighbour deserves a good living too. Most in the west are too selfish to even understand how the economy works beyond their own self interests. You could have USA made products with reasonable prices if you had economy of scales and peoples wages had kept up over the years. Sure my TV costs 4,000 and is made in Billings, but I make 1200 take home a week, its not that bad. The amount we are paying for essentials is removing all disposable income. Banks, Grocery, fast fashion Clothes, Insurance, Gas, Electricty...even water is costing us far more than it should and is going into shareholders pockets instead of being reinvested, or paid to the workers. Remember when you would buy a pair of Levis and they would last 4 years. Now you are lucky if they last a year, but they cost half as much. Spend more for built in obsolescence and forever profits.
