Michael is correct: "On January 27, 2017, the Texas Historical Commission voted unanimously to designate the dome a State Antiquities Landmark. Under the designation, the Astrodome may no longer be removed, altered, damaged, salvaged, or excavated without a permit from the commission." - from Wikipedia
We (city of Houston) voted few times to save it an they failed but city still owed money on it so they refused to tear it down. I was lucky to do some work inside the dome. It's disgusting an run down with homeless an dead bodies. On certain days you can smell the dome from Texans stadium. I voted to save it but at this point it needs to go. Lots of memories there but they missed the opportunity to save it as is.
This guy always pulls stats out of his rear. He’s probably only been to one ballpark in his life and does a google search as it makes up stuff. What a joke. I can’t handle the speaking voice either.
The biggest issue with RFK was the fact you have to get the Federal Government to agree on something.... good luck with that in a timely manner.. The old Astrodome is a landmark... Cleveland is just doing the normal whining about a new stadium because the lease is up.
Facts, you need an arena just for all of the great entertainers from oaktown alone. But oakland alameda cpliseum will probably be torn down once the last bill is paid on it.
I can see the Arco Park ruins from my home and I can confirm it’s been overrun by homeless camps. I went there a couple a months ago just to see and there’s easily 20+ large camps set up in there
We drove past RFK whenever we visited Washington D.C. last year. It was in the process of being demolished and it looked scary like an apocalyptic movie because they were doing it in sections. However, it is a great location for a stadium for city tourists and I don't know why they didn't just rebuild there originally. Also, our Uber driver who was a local said he wanted the team brought back to the actual city.
Gonna miss RFK when it comes down. Say my first Preseason game against the packers in 79 or 80. Getting autographs in the parking lot when players were hanging by their cars drinking beer.
I couldn't DO NOT RECOMMEND CHANNEL fast enough because Imagine not even knowing that the Astrodome is a NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK and thats why it hasnt and WILL NEVER be demolished.
I have a soft spot for the Astrodome. My Dad was a pro soccer player and played at some famous stadiums, but he never played at the Astrodome which I did. Sure, I was only 9 years old, but I did it.
A small sliver of it is now a car dealership, but the rest is vacant. I still remember the thrill of parking at the Astrodome and walking over I-610 on the pedestrian bridge into the park. Landscaping around the dome & the park were eons better than the ugly hellscape of NRG, mismatched parking areas, and vacant lots that now comprise the area.
3:48 and 9:58 Can Neo RFK Stadium be rebuilt for the National Football League’s Washington Commanders(Redskins), Major League Rugby's Old Glory DC, and United Football League's DC Defenders since the original RFK Stadium and FedEx Field gets demolished in 2026-2030?
How does that work?I believe chase arena is almost paying for itself after being privately funded...why did the warriors leave if they had control of the building and revenues generated
Historical landmark? It’s falling apart day by day and is not being used for anything. I would think the inside is totally garbage by now, full of mould etc….
0:47 can the Neo-Astrodome be rebuilt for the Houston Astros next door to NRG Stadium where the Texans, Gamblers and Roughnecks make their home games when the original Astrodome will be blown up in pieces?
Why the Astrodome is protected, one reason. NRG Stadium beside it, and if the Astrodome is demolished, then NRG will be damaged via the debris flying towards it
They have already removed parts of the dome without damage to NRG so this comment is kinda nonsense not to mention there was a vote to tear it down well after NRG stadium was built. NRG stadium does not it fact mean the dome can't be torn down. It's the history an nostalgia of the building we didn't want to see it go. The city government didn't want it torn down because they still owed money on the place an wanted to change it into something to generate money. Now it's a smelly gross eye sore with protected status an is hard to do anything with.
Astrodome is not gunna get demolished because there's a landmark plaque on tha Astrodome site since 2018 and it's been registered as a historic landmark so it's gunna stay around until tha Earth crumbles
Jerry's world/at&t stadium will never, ever get the texas vs oklahoma/red river shootout game in arlington, tx. Longhorns & sooners fans/administrators will NEVER vote to nove it there & away from the state fair/fair park/cotton bowl stadium. Cotton bowl has had renovations & looks beautiful for it's age!! People don't want to drive from dallas to arlington.
Trivia question: Why were the lower bowl seats in RFK orange? Because the San Francisco Giants were all set to move to DC in 1983. -84. I remember it being such a last-minute thing, that there was a big rush to change the 20,000 or so seats to orange in the time frame from the end of the Redskins season - they played home games in January, they went to the Super Bowl in Feb. ‘84, that they didn’t think they could get the seats changed by opening day 1984. But we all know how THAT whole thing ended up- in the shitter. 33 yrs of that man…
Finish your sentences Mr RU-vidr. You said It doesn't make sense to not demolish The Astrodome. Please don't speak for the world. You should add in That it doesn't make sense "to you" and you my friend are ignorant and narrow minded imo.
