One of the alltime greatest groups. Dick Clark & American Bandstand could only afford to pay airline tickets for one of the Trashmen, drummer Steve Wahrer, when he flew from Michigan. Really is strange that noone can come up with any other video photage of this legendary group.
I like The Trashmen but their definitely not the first Heavy Metal band, that title belongs to Black Sabbath But their definitely the first proto punk and surf rock band
The only part of "Surfin' Bird" that Steve Wahrer actually wrote was the transition from where the song goes from being a cover of The Rivingtons' "The Bird's The Word" to being a cover of "Papa-Oom-Mow-Mow", also by The Rivingtons. Early pressings had Wahrer as the songwriter. They were soon after contacted by the Rivingtons' attorney with a threat of plagiarism if the credit wasn't changed to The Rivingtons. So, let's give songwriting credit to whom it is due: Al Frazier, Carl White, Sonny Harris & Turner Wilson Jr; The Rivingtons.
