the reason that we do individual packets inside multipacks is so you can put them in your packed lunch. that is why most multipacks contain 5 individual items.

Aussie here- Vegemite and Marmite are same in the way that you need to build up your tolerance to it. Once you get used to it’s flavour, saltiness etc you will start eating it in bigger portions.

Battenberg cake was created in 1884 as a wedding gift for Prince Louis of Battenberg and Princess Victoria (granddaughter of Queen Victoria) and paid tribute to England's newest royal family member by using his last name as the title of the confection.

If you like ginger, theres a biscuit "Fox's Ginger Crunch Creams" . They are like a golden Oreo but replacing the biscuit with those ginger biscuits

Marmite crisps are a good “gateway drug” to Marmite because they’re quite subtle. When people try Marmite for the first time they invariably use too much and also often aren’t expecting the flavour so the combination of unexpected flavour and way too much of it is just overwhelming. I’m a seasoned Marmite eater and often wince at the amount of the stuff I’ve seen people consume in their taste test videos 😅 the trick is always to start with as little as possible and build up your resistance over time, you know like people used to do with poisons 😂

We have a lot of snacks in individual packets in the UK so they can be put into your "packed lunch" for work /school etc.

Don't be ashamed, Marmite will always get you in the end ;) Tbh a lot of people I see tasting Marmite for the first time use way too much so it's not surprising they hate it. It's a really powerful taste and very salty, the tiniest smear, size of a pea, smeared over butter or other spread works best. You also need to try Pink Wafer biscuits. They're crispy like the Caramel wafer biscuit wasn't and literally taste pink :)

The battenbergs are a sponge cake coated in apricot jam then wrapped in marzipan, which is essentially an almond flavoured icing

Cake bars are probably individually packaged because they are often included in people's/ children's lunchbox, so being individually wrapped provides the protection needed to stop them being smashed to pieces. Plus it keeps them fresher

The best way to eat most biscuits is to dunk them in hot tea! Coffee's OK, but tea is best? 😊

ginger nuts...the almost perfect dunking biscuit...they just don't break down and drop into your tea/coffee unless you drop it or forget it

Ahhhh Natasha loves marmite now! It's how it starts, you'll be smothering it on your toast in no time 😂

If you liked the Battenberg, you need to try Bakewell tart or slice. As a side note in the 1990s the UK developed a new way to mark emergency vehicles, now popular in many countries called Battenberg. There are probably cops and firefighters etc. all over the world that don’t know the markings on their car or truck is named after cake!

Blackcurrent and apple is a very common combination. The apple helps to reduce the bitteerness of the blackcurrent, and as you noted, adds it's own sweetness.

The Battenberg cake is covered with Marzipan!You didn't taste it? According to history, the first Battenberg cake was made in 1884, when Queen Victoria's granddaughter married Prince Louis of Battenberg (the alternating blocks of colour resemble the Battenberg crest). This traditional cake is very popular in Britain, and makes an eye catching afternoon tea snack.

Of course Natasha liked Tunnocks Caramel Wafers……they are Scottish!

Ginger nut biscuits are excellent if you’ve got an upset stomach, they do wonders to settle your digestive system down.

Kipling Battenburg cake is covered in marzipan. Tunnocks bakery was established in Scotland in 1890 and is still a family run business on the same site. Their caramel logs are similar to the wafers but they are covered in toasted coconut and I’m surprised you haven’t tried Tunnocks Tea Cakes - a soft biscuit base with a bubble of soft creamy marshmallow surrounded in chocolate.

I think the reason the Marmite crisps taste good is because the Marmite is a specific dose. Every time I've watched Americans eat Marmite they spead it on like peanut butter and it blows their heads off.

Apple and blackcurrant is a regular combination in the UK and I guess just as the US is more used to grape flavoured products we have blackcurrant. We have things such as the tarts you tried, apple and blackcurrant pie fillings (or ready made pies), Robinsons do an apple and blackcurrant cordial (squash/ juice drink) which you dilute to taste with water. Not sure if you have tried Ribena yet, which is a blackcurrant juice? The cordial version (diluted with water) can be drunk hot or cold, there are Ribena juice cartons and carbonated soda drink versions too, but the cordial IMO is my favourite.

My mum just visited us from the UK (we're in the Philippines). The only thing I requested was Marmite. I've now got 3 large jars, which will last me a year!

And if it’s NOT too late - you MUST MUST MUST try buttons that have been kept in the refrigerator - the “snap” yum! - then also when you eat them have a gulp of tea - and the chocolate melts 🙌🏼

As a kid I recall first trying Marmite and hating it, but quickly learned to love it and eat it several times a week ever since.

As I know you do a bit of cooking I would just mention that jam tarts are really easy to make at home and you can obviously use whatever jam (err jelly) that you like best. When I make them for Christmas I use a cherry jam. Personally when I make them I use an unsweetened pastry base but I think all the commercial ones use a sweetened pastry. BTW Blackcurrant and Apple is a classic British flavour - it is pretty common.

Oh that made me laugh out loud when it came to the marmite crisps 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣….as a marmite lover, that is how I feel when I eat just ordinary marmite on toast! 💚🧡

The "pink" you're tasting with the Battenburgs is the combination of the marzipan (the almond-flavoured confection wrapped around it) and the apricot jam they use to bind the sponge and marzipan together.

Most people overdo Marmite. It's a very strong flavour and only needs very little spread on bread or toast to get the best out of it. When done right it just tastes savoury and a bit like dark soy.

The thing I love most about your reactions is the ones that take you back to the past in memories.

The caramel wafers are my favourites since childhood. The milkman used to have them on his float, and I would say my Mother wants caramel wafers today (she never did) Then she would get the bill at the end of the week and I would run! Lol. Did it a few times, and was worth it 🤣

I am with Debbie for the majority of these. When I open a box of Cadbury fingers I have to eat the whole box. Jamie dodgers are gorgeous too. The pink flavour was coming from the marzipan

I love marmite, the secret to using it, is to it use very sparingly just the tiniest amount (no more than a 1/4 of a teaspoon) on a slice of buttered bread, it's also great added to a beef stew.

Marmite…the food that divides a nation. I love it. If it’s a more crispy Caramel bar you’d like, just pop them in the freezer for an hour or two…chocolatey, crispy, chewy heaven, great with a frothy coffee.

Try popping the Tunnocks Caramel bars into your fridge, so that it becomes snapable, it does make a difference, also try the same dodge with other chocolate bars especially with a Curly Whirly. Jammie Dodgers are available in alternative flavours, I think that the most common alternative is the Toffee kind , but I think that there’s a chocolate variety too and I don’t know if they are made by the same company or not but we also have a very similar biscuit that has a layer of vanilla cream surrounding the blob of jam before the second layer of biscuit is placed on top. I believe that they are known as the sandwich cream biscuit. I think that the reason why the Marmite crisps are so different in taste opposed to eating Marmite spread on anything else is because there’s so little of the Marmite added to the crisps. It’s actually more of an artificial flavouring that is used to give the Marmite taste, in much the same way that some of the meat flavoured crisps are marked as suitable for vegetarian or vegan consumers as there’s no actual meat in the product at all, they are flavoured with a chemical cocktail to make the consumer think that they have been eating a meat product.

Try cold toast with butter and just a little marmite on the butter!! Perfect with coffee or fresh orange juice! Perfect hangover cure too 😊

It's good to hear you say Caramel correctly, I have watched your compatriots pronounce the word as Car mel. If you put the buttons in the fridge, they are lovely when cold, nice and snappy.

Where I lived in Scotland we said "carmel" instead of "caramel". Tunnocks Caramel Wafers were my dad's favourite biscuit. Thanks for posting - the Marmite crisps was a surprise. 🙂

My mother always dressed me in white from head to toe when I was a small baby. However, her father-in-law used to give me a chocolate finger as a treat whenever she wasn’t looking. It melted and oozed through my fingers and got everywhere and there was no prising it off me. She absolutely hated him! 😂😂😂😂

You can legit pin point the micro second when someone comes to the Marmite side 🤣 it always gets you in the end, like a killer at the end of a horror film.

Re Battenberg cake. It is named after the Battenberg family - more particularly Prince Louis of Battenberg who, in 1884 married Queen Victoria's granddaughter Victoria. During WW1 they changed the family name to Mountbatten (compare Saxe-Cobug-Gotha to Windsor). Prince Louis and Princess Victoria were Prince Philip's grandparents.

always enjoy your videos. I love the Tunnocks caramel wafers but I can never eat just the one as my dogs also love them and I have to share - if you can get them Tunnocks also do a wonderful "teacake" Their description is: Soft marshmallow on a biscuit base fully coated in real milk chocolate.

I adore Tunnocks caramel wafers. The chew, the chocolate, their slight oddly stale nature. The dark chocolate ones are my favourites.

The secret with Marmite is to use the merest smear. A little goes a lonnnnggg way with that stuff. Here in the UK we describe all kinds of experiences as "marmite", meaning either loved or hated but nothing inbetween. When Natasha kept her arm still for long enough, I finally realised the writing was in Hebrew and said "grandfather grandmother". That was unexpected - taxed my brain for a moment there! 🙂👍

Marmite crisps are lovely, because the amount on them is controlled. Often when you try the actual marmite on toast etc you put far too much on. Marmite is lovely spread very very thinly, too much and it isn't good. Give marmite another try used very sparingly and you will probably like it

The reason many people (‘rookies’) don’t like Marmite on first tasting is that they take too much of it. It’s supposed to be a very thin spread (a scraping) on toast or bread, not a huge thick layer or great dollop of it. It’s also great as a flavouring (maybe a teaspoon or tablespoon) in soup. The reason you’re liking it in crisp form is that it’s just a smattering, a flavouring. Just as it should be 🤷🏻‍♂️

Battenberg is one of my favourite cakes (I love both marzipan and apricot). A good homemade one with a cup of tea or coffee during a spring fête is incredibly relaxing

The Caramel wafers in the gold and red packaging are Scottish, very popular here. Don't let that packaging confuse you, it used to say "made in Scotland" on the front but after the independence referendum the owners removed that slogan as they were unionists 😂

Re the Marmite crisps - you are steadily being converted to the true way of Marmite Love. One Of Us! One Of Us! One Of Us! 🙂 Regarding the mini poppodums, if you don't like curry I'm not surprised you didn't like them because the poppodum is primarily an Indian crisp, and these are flavoured with classic strong Indian flavour - that of lime (and coriander) pickle. An acquired taste for many in the UK as well.

Those sensation poppadom's are lovely, I have them all the time. They go great with a chicken tikka curry, dip them in ... yummy. The Jammie dodgers do come in other flavours, I had them yesterday in blueberry jam flavour.

The biscuits are some of my favourites and the cadburys milk chocolate buttons are my all time favourite “just chocolate “ treat , when you open the bag .. the smell just hits you and then they melt in your mouth . Battenburgs are supposed to be had with unsweetened hot tea. So having it with coffee make a ton of sence. It's an afternoon tea thing. And the jam that holds the marzipan onto the cakes is apricot so that probably helped a lot in you liking it.

I love Cadburys giant chocolate buttons, they come in various flavours, milk chocolate, white chocolate, milk and white chocolate blend, orange, mint, Caramac, and also a soft caramel centre version. They also come in dark chocolate but they are called Cadburys bournville giant buttons. Being named after Bournville in Birmingham England which was built by Cadburys for its workers to live.

A great aunt used to make her own plum jam and distribute them to family. When I was 11 or 12, that years jar was really sour and for no reason I can remember, I added some marmite to my pb&j. It took the sourness away and nearly fifty years on, I still make a pbj&m every now and then. Going to make one now!

i’ve gone back to the start of your trying british foods series, from the beginning until now. and wow, debbie is looking more and more youthful. Even in personality somehow. The longer hair definitely suits you debbie! You look beautiful. I enjoy watching both of your videos, they’re great.

A lot of the individually wrapped ones are things you’d typically put in lunchboxes. The caramel wafers take me right back to school days! And ALL the chocs and biscuits taste 1,000,000x better with a cup of tea! Yum!

The flavour on the poutside of Battenberg cake is called MARZIPAN and it is made from Almond paste. A layer of marzipan is used on top of our wedding and christmas cakes before they are frosted.

That's perfect with the Mr Kipling jam tarts - Natasha can eat the apricot ones, Debbie can eat the blackcurrant and apple, and you can share the raspberry ones. No fighting for your favourites!

Hey ladies, you are both just great fun and so entertaining so I’m newly subscribed 😊 I’m from a city in the North East of England called Newcastle and I can honestly say, don’t worry about how you pronounce caramel please say it as you know it, I mean Debbies’s double pronunciation was funny 😂 but here in the UK throughout our different regions we have different meanings for the same word and some pronunciations are different too, I for one respect where you guys are from as much as where I am from 😊 great video lasses (lasses being a geordie term for girls, ladies 😊) it’s a shame you don’t except snack gifts as there are many things from my neck of the woods I would love you to try haha purely for my entertainment of course haha

The mistake you made with Marmite, was trying the most intense flavour first. It's definitely something you have to build up to. The mini Battenburgs are my favourite out of all them and would give them a solid 10. I eat marmite from the jar in spoonfuls where I love it so much.

I’m glad you used the Chocolate Fingers as a straw. Here in NZ in the ‘80’s we used to do this all the time and when the Tim Tam Slam started it really annoyed me as it was portrayed as something new and cool. Chocolate Fingers, the original hot drink biscuit straw!!! 😂

Oh btw, my great great great grandfather gave tunnocks the money to set up his factory, u should try caramel logs, (the same biscuit covered in toasted coconut,) and tea cakes!

I love the mango and red chilli poppadoms not keen on the lime ones either, and omg ginger nuts dipped in some strong coffee is just amazing.

Oh my goodness. So many of your items are what my gran would have considered 'luxury' treats. The kind of biscuits, chocolates and mini-cakes that she always dragged out for Christmas, Birthdays and Special Occasions. I really enjoyed your taste tests today. Nice one guys. OMG, I absolutley love Twiglets, I think they even used to do a white chocolate covered twiglet at one point which were delicious :)

You said that all these snacks were bought in a US local shop! It just occurred to me that Cadburys chocolate is now owned by Hersheys and as soon as they bought it they changed the recipe to Hersheys chocolate and the sales plummeted in the UK, It may well be that the CDM (Cadbury’s Dairy Milk) bought in the US may well be the Hershey’s recipe again, because you like Hershey’s chocolate!!! HHHHHhhhaaaaaaa!!! The horror!

With the caramel wafer bars, when they first came out you could only get them from the milk man, now they're in all shops, one of my all time faves from a child up to today, funnily enough I had one of those earlier lol. My other fave biscuit is chocolate hobnobs, delicious. I also love chocolate fingers, once you start you can't stop til the box is empty lol.👌 I like to just let the chocolate buttons melt on my tongue it's just tasty.

I LOVE battenburg! The cake on the inside is just coloured sponge usually stuck together with some apricot jam. The flavour is in the marzipan on the outside. It's like almond sugar paste and absolutely delicious!

I put anything with chocolate on it, in the Fridge before eating, as I like the chocolate to be firm not soft. Loved your reactions to the Marmite Crisps, so funny.

Lemon curd tarts are fabulous, you must try to get them. I like Marmite, but don't like the Marmite crisps, strange really.
