Angellou Harvard I am a foodie so I eat everything. The 3 most popular Haitian dishes are Bouillon, a kind of a stew, Legume, a vegetable stew and Black rice. Bouillon is a stew with a couple kinds of meat, usually cuts of beef, can have seafood. Has different root vegetables, potatoes, carrots and others. Love it. Black rice is a very simple dish. Rice and mushrooms. The spices used are so flavorful. If the rice isn’t cooked properly, soft, it won’t be good. Legume is veggie stew usually served over rice. Again the spices make the dish. Most Haitian food have a little h
The Gregorian calendar did not become effective in the West until about 300 years ago, thanks to Pope Gregory (who needed to change it for liturgical purposes). The Ethiopians had no reason to leap frog, as the West did. That is why the Ethiopian calendar is 7-8 years behind. The calendar goes back at least 5,000 years. It has been constantly adjusted over the millennia because it went out of kilter from time to time. The Egyptians who started it all had the additional Sothis calendar (the star Sirius) that functioned like a control on the solar calendar, so the calendar did not throw everything into turmoil. The 1/4th day adjustment was made to the solar calendar during Julius Caesar' s reign in the Roman era. So every four years becomes a Leap Year (4x6 hours = I full day on a Leap Year, or 366 days to the year.) It is where the name Julian Calendar came from. The Ethiopians are on the Julian Calendar, not on the Gregorian. Another difference - the Ethiopian calendar has 12 months of 30 days even, and an intercalary short 13th month of 5 days or 6 in a "Leap Year (Zemene Luqas)". Ancient Athens celebrated its New Year in September like the Nile lands, even though the Mediterranean region is bone-dry during the summer. Calendars are calibrated to meteorological cycles. September ushers in spring on the Ethiopian highlands. So, New Year's Day and the first day of spring (Tsedey) fall on the same day. The Jews are undecided as to their New Year. Rosh Hashanah (September) is New Year's day holiday. But they also follow the Babylonian cycle, so Jews have another conflicting New Year's day during the Northern hemisphere spring, after the vernal equinox (March 21). St. Patrick's day any one (March 17)?
Here in Ethiopia we have 13 month Our last month consistes 5 days and it becames 6 days every 4 year. Usually our new year is on September 11 but since this year is the fourth year we have our last month consiste 6 days so it is in September 12.
