I feel like Slipknot isn't exactly what people think. Yes it's metal, there's screaming, there's some creepy imagery and shit going on.... but the talent and artistry is amazing. Corey Taylor, the vocalist, has a beautiful voice when he sings. I recommend you listen to more!

Corey Taylor is crazy. He's got a solo career and leads both Slipknot(harsh vocals, crazy fills, and masks) and Stone Sour(close to only clean vocals, no masks). He's collaborated with a few rappers, too(Tech N9ne, Kid Bookie, etc). And the Slipknot fanbase are called Maggots. Y'all should definitely experience more of Corey Taylor, but you may need to keep the lyrics on-hand. lmao

Slipknot is kind of THE metal band almost every metal fan has embraced, and because they cross genres and touch on those primal emotions that we can all relate to, they are VERY prolific. 100% I think you should check out a few more of their tracks. They’ve also been around for years, and they have a multitude of different sounds. I’m positive you’ll find some that suit your tastes. Their early career is more harsh and thrashy, while the new is more melodic but refined. The one thing that Slipknot is, is pure. The music hits different when it’s pure, and they have the skills to keep their spot at the top of the NuMetal podium. Enjoy!

⛔️ Long comment ⛔️ (I have Asperger’s) Great reaction and a great 1st Slipknot choice. I’m a 41 yr old born again Christian metal head who started really getting into metal in the mid ‘90s so I feel like I can be a good resident metal ambassador to this channel, as I also love hiphop. Metal and hiphop are the most masculine-testosterone-driven genres of music, lots of machismo. Both genres started in the ‘70s and the band most credited for the origination of metal, Black Sabbath, got their inspiration from a horror movie with the same name. So that’s why you’ll find a lot of creepy, scary stuff in metal, but even that is just a fraction of what you’ll find. The genre has evolved and branched out over the decades. Metal from a sonic standpoint is really all about the guitar riffs and the drum beats. The more adrenaline pumping riffs and beats the better the metal in my opinion. Some bands are more repetitive than others and utilize hooks and other bands are more into the technical side of musicianship, playing hard and/or fast pieces of music with lots of changes, so beware of that. Not all metal sounds the same, although it might at first lol. I don’t think Slipknot are devil worshippers. Is there a lot of devil worship in metal? Sure, but mostly with underground bands I’d say, but it’s hard to say who’s doing it for real and who’s just doing it for the shock-effect. So, you’ll find a lot of horror elements in metal, not every band creates from that vibe however. A lot of metal bands are just all about adrenaline pumping energy and you’ll find a wide variety of topics in metal lyrics. It’s a very diverse genre, like hiphop, with different vibes for different moods or settings. But overall, metal is a dark, scary, and energetic style of music, but you’ll also find beautiful and uplifting metal. Besides horror movies, metal was originally inspired by blues, rock, classical, jazz, and then punk was introduced to metal and this where you get thrash and the more pissed-off drill sergeant style vocals. Pretty much every genre has been mixed with metal. Just as the krump style of dance manifested in hiphop, metal has its own high-powered energetic, violent style of dance. It’s a sight to see a whole pit of people doing karate ninja moves all to the beat next to each other, it looks like a gang fight. You see this more at metalcore, hardcore, and deathcore shows because these sub-genres have a lot of breakdowns (which originated with funk & hiphop) than at regular metal or thrash shows, where at the latter you’ll find a more pushing and shoving style of dance. I’m too old and out of shape for that now but I’ve gotten my dance moves on in several pits growing up. I’m more of a metalcore guy. Slipknot is considered nu-metal which is a rap-inspired sub-genre of metal, but they incorporate thrash metal, death metal, and dabble in metalcore. Pantera is more groove-metal but both bands are legendary in the metal community. As for more Slipknot songs to checkout, Psychosocial is another good one for newbies. My personal favorite album of theirs is their self-titled debut album from ‘99. The 1st track on that is just a 30 second creepy/eerie clown sounding piece of music, but tracks 2 thru 6 are all great in my opinion. Tracks 4, 5, & 6, “Wait and Bleed”, “Surfacing” and “Spit It Out” are good for newbies. Surfacing and Spit It Out have turntable scratching. As the releases become more recent they’ve evolved to incorporate more melody and singing. For a Pantera introduction, I’d say “Cemetery Gates” or “Cowboys From Hell” would be good songs to start with. This comment is more than long enough so I’ll stop here.

Our fandom name is Maggots. Also, thank you so much for being willing to check them out despite having a prejudice view of them initially. That shows great maturity on your part. Rock and Metal have a very undeserved amount of prejudice against them as being evil, violent, satanic or just straight up noise when that couldn't be further from the truth. It's the same as someone saying all rap is about h*es, drugs and gang stuff over the same recycled beat when we all know that's not true either. Rock can be energetic (Metal/Thrash), have hip hop elements (Nu Metal), slow (bluesy, power ballads, ect) and so much more. It's so much more than just noise and aggression. It can be beautiful, heartbreaking and emotive. It's simply a different way of expression. I hope you continue a deeper dive into this genre. I see you have a good head on your shoulders and can come to truly appreciate the skill needed in this genre (vocals, lyrics, instruments, composition, ect.). Some songs I recommend to check out: Alter Bridge - Blackbird, Metallica - Fade to Black, Alice In Chains - Would, Slipknot - Snuff, and Audioslave - Like A Stone should be a good starting point.

Duality was on the third album that came out in 2004, it was uploaded to YT later. Also the members of slipknot have done many interviews on how disgusting the masks can get, especially in their early career they were notorious for not washing them between shows and the smell was disgusting. Spit It Out, live at Download 2009 is a very popular one with reactors, shows Corey's crowd control, and also how much Joey their former drummer (RIP) really brought to a live show.

Slipknot is an aggressive band but their lyrics are deep and people don’t realize that although they’re screaming there’s depth to them. This video was shot at a fan’s home and they were paid a bunch of money to allow these fans to basically level the house. You talk about horror Corey Taylor is a horror movie cinaphile all of his masks are based on horror movie masks. The one he wears today is based the serial killer from the Clive Barker masterpiece Night Breed! The first line about pushing his fingers into his eyes refers to when you have migraines if you put pressure on your eyes while they’re close it helps to relieve the pain some.

8:43 What an amazing revelation-learning that individuals who worship god(s) that differ from yours (or worse yet, atheists such as myself) also have valid thoughts, feelings, and emotions. I, for the life of me, just can't understand how religious individuals (such as yourself, apparently) are given such a bad rap of being egotistical, obstinate, and judgemental. 🙄 ⚛️♥️♾️

Now do vermilion 1&2, snuff, wicked game(acoustic), people=shit(rap)...etc..... Corey Taylor is the singer and he's every bit as dynamic as Ren... One of the most musically talented people ever.

11:41 those masks, especially at this point are all designed with all you mentioned in mind. The lead singer Corey Taylor is probably the most intricate because it works with his mouth opening and closing for vocals.

They wear mask as a way to make viewers focus on the music and lyrics instead of the people making it. Corey Taylor has an amazing voice and majority of people dismiss them for their looks before they ever listen.

Stop thinking metal is all satanic, Id say 90% or higher has nothing to do with Satan. Metal relates to people so well because the songs are deeply written about their own personal experience, good and or bad. The write stuff about depression, drug abuse, alcoholism, loss of a loved one, anger issues, suicide, etc. Not everything is all on the darker side of life though. Underneath all that screaming and growling is well written lyrics.

Slipknot fans do have a name... we are "maggots".. a throwback time their song "Pulse of the Maggots ". Slipknot is "nu-metal" which is a criss-cross of rap / hip-hop / metal.... prolly why you guys connected with it.

"I push my fingers into my eyes" refers to Corey's migraine. When he applies pressure to his eyes during a migraine attack, it relieves the pain. You can only understand that if you've ever had a real migraine ;)

Find Slipknot’s DISASTERPIECES live from London 2002. It is incredibly better than download 2009, which seems to garner a lot of support here on RU-vid. Just react to the whole show. It’s insane.

I dont know where all this "worshipping Satan" thing comes from. Here in Europe, nobody says or thinks that. Maybe its because we grow up differently with more contact with the genre. I believe that American media once told everyone that metal is devil worshipper music and everyone NOT listening to it would believe it. Once those people get in touch with this music, they realize its not devils music at all. There are songs (or even bands) that are exceptions but the vast majority of metal songs and bands talk about serious, very deep stuff or even educational history things like e.g. Iron Maiden.

Corey Taylor, lead singer, is kind of like a Metal version of Ren, in terms of range. Maggots, fans are called maggots because from the stage the crowd just looks like maggots. AOV is a song you should check out, hits a lot of sounds ( heavy, melodic, singing) and watch Corey Taylor solo, live version of Snuff ( the one with a billion views )

I can appriciate u opening up to something u'd never listen to on your own, but your preconceived bias is shining thru in your reaction, the masks are a way for them to keep thier anonymity and so the music can be the focus instead of the ppl playing that's also why they go by numbers instead of names (at least in the begining), in the song he's talking about putting pressure on his eyes to relieve a migraine, he's not talking about gouging his eyes out like u are probably assuming... that said its huge going out of your comfort zone and trying something new, so thanks for checking it out.

Ignorance is universal remember all those times hip-hop was defined as thug music not every mumble rapper is dying from Percocets and lean and every rappers is not a criminal gangster . So when all metal is labeled as satanic, it’s just as fucking annoying. But thank you for adopting and overcoming. Fear is the mind killer.

Close your eyes and put your pointer finger against one eye lid and then your thumb against the other and bow your head slightly into it. That pose fits in my mind, though I haven't sat and made sure the lyrics go 100% with it. But its a pose that says, "I'm stressed, tired and don't feel like putting up with this BS." That was my interpretation of the first line rather than literally pushing your fingers into your eyes in a physically damaging manner.

Dudes, most metal is not about satan. Most of it is very poetic and deep, you just have to pay attention. I get so tired of people branding metal as satanic... for Christ's sake there's satanic rap, and pop, but that's never mentioned. Just that evil satanic metal...

Sometimes it's kind of sad to see people assuming metal song as satanic and full of rage, but not for me tho, metal songs is a great therapy for me, whenever I feel frustrated I used to listen some metal songs after that I feel more calm and I feel confident to face anything. A lot of band who use growl and scream on the vocal not even a satanic. We just enjoy the energy and the hype.
