The deadliest year was 2005, when 11 people died; three riders and one marshal died during the June race, and six riders and one course bystander died during the Manx Grand Prix in August/September 2005. Since 1937, the only year in which races were held but no fatalities occurred was 1982.

I've been riding fast bikes for over 35 years and even took one around brands hatch. At 180mph my arse was chewing the seat. I've never had an accident because my sense of self preservation overrides my desire for an adrenaline rush and I never speed on the road and treat everyone else like they're a complete moron and never assume people have seen me. ✌️❤️🇬🇧

You override your need for an adrenaline rush and yet you "believe" you've done a track day at brands and hit 180mph? Can I ask.. what park of the circuit did you hit that speed on? And what bike? ..how is any of this not a desire for an adrenaline rush? People don't book track days because they have nothing better to do. Riding fast bikes is one thing.. but riding bikes fast is something else.

The "NW200" in your reaction video is The North West 200, held in Northern Ireland since 1929, mostly features the same riders as the Isle of Man TT but differs in that it is a traditional race rather than a time trial. It is considered the second most prestigious event in this category, second only to the Isle of Man TT.

The Isle of Man TT isn't a single race it is an event held over one or two weeks each year. Different levels of rider and different types of bike are used in each race, including side cars (which may be slightly slower but even more insane!) Some of the clips are listing the specific race or a specific location around the course. For example this year there is superbike, superstock, supertwin, supersport etc.

The Isle of Man TT isn't a race - it's a time trial. Riders (not "drivers") are released at 10 sec. intervals. Overtaking occurs when competitors make up the 10 secs, to pass the guy released before them. The film is edited with actual road races (all start together), which I believe are mostly held in N Ireland. The "NW 200" is the North-West 200 held in N Ireland.

I am an man aged 87, and the highlight of my year (As a biker) was my annual trip to "The Island" for the TT. I was fortunate enough to be there to see the first 100MPH lap....I had just been demobbed from doing my National Service in the RAF in 1957, and everyone was expecting Geoff Duke to be the one who achieved this, however it was a guy named Bob McIntyre who actually broke "The Ton" I think that he was riding either a Gilera or a Moto Guzzi. It was a milestone at the time. Now we have 125cc bikes hitting the 100 MPH mark.

Those races are all from the Isle of Man TT, it’s just that there’s different power classes. For example, you’re not going to have lower CC bikes race against higher CC bikes so there’s separate races for each power devision, plus there’s also a motorbike and sidecar race as well, but it is all classed as the Isle of Man TT. PS, it’s also worth noting, that at the fastest points in the race, on the most powerful bikes, the riders are going circa 220mph or 355kph. It’s literally one of the most dangerous races in the world, up there with drag racing.

When we were working in A+E over the TT one of the thins we were shown to prepare us was footage of some of the crashes (both fatal and not) so we could get an idea of what might be arriving into the department.

The only personal experience I can compare to this one is the first time I experienced a NASCAR race. Now I was fortunate to be working with the ambulance service that works the NASCAR races at Texas Motor Speedway. So I got to go into the central area and be standing literally on the inside barrier wall at turn 4. The guy I was working with had been there before and told me I should probably put some earplugs in. At first I disregarded his recommendation. C'mon, how loud can it be? I was in for a surprise. I begin to hear the roar as the cars began their first lap. You could hear them coming and it was getting louder and louder, and then I saw them coming, and I truly wasn't prepared for both the speed and noise when these cars passed. TV and video doesn't come close to providing a clear picture on how fast these vehicles are going. I was just like that guy in this video at 3:15. I had this look of shock and I started backing up from the wall. I couldn't understand what kept these vehicles from flying off like planes, going as fast as they were going. I quickly got those earplugs in. So I know the TT would be insane to experience. I doubt I will ever be able to afford to go there to watch it. But what I can afford and experience, that is just as insane, is a top fuel dragster race. The noise and speed at one of those races is next level. So that is next on my bucket list.

Hey Steve, I actually worked for one of the top race teams, so i have a lot of knowledge from the perspective of a mechanic. Words and videos cannot do justice to the feeling and atmosphere of being involved with this event. Let me tell you a little behind scenes stuff, My job was to take full care of keeping the bikes in full race condition. We had 2 riders who rode in each class so a total of 8 bikes. *Edit- Yes the road racing season has smaller races in Ireland, Northern Ireland, Isle of Man and even one in England. The amount of focus and effort that goes into making sure that bike is ready to take on that course is serious stuff. Absolutely no room for errors and the track is really hard on rider and bike!! Many times i had nights we would be still making changes/fixes into the early hours. Bikes had to be ready to pass the days scrutineering at 07:00am or risk upsetting the whole plan or even missing that days race. I remember so many times i would keep myself awake and focused by imagining being on that bike at full speed, It really helped to always do your best work as any mistakes can be life threatening. Knowing your the last person to touch that bike before the rider sets off...... Well....I was always buzzing with anxiety and excitement until the riders came back safe. When I had the rare bit of time off, I would borrow a dirt bike and play on the green lanes on the middle of the island. Then head over to the town of Peel for some ice cream and stunning views of the castle. Really is nothing quite like it :)

The races are held on public roads and the lap is just under 38 miles long. So, the roads have to be closed to do this, so you can only do this for short period. They have different classes. 125cc, 600cc and 1000cc super sports. 130mph, 170-5mph and 190-210mph super sports. All bikes are production bikes. In other words you can buy one from your dealer. These guys push them to the limit. They are a highly skilled dedicated few, that unlike most of us mortals. That can push these machines to the limits. It really is a sight to behold of sheer, brutal, adrenaline filled insanity on public roads. One mistake can cost you your life. As the only things to hit are stone, brick walls, homes and pubs. Or just fly off the top of the mountain roads in to oblivion. There is also the motorcycle sidecar race which is 3 wheeled lunacy and break neck speeds. The TT is in my opinion the greatest racing event on earth. There really is nothing quite like it. Great upload brother.

Hi Steve, there is 1 course on the Isle of Man TT race but different categories race on different days. Also, racing finishes at 6pm each night and the roads are re-opened for the islanders to go and do their shopping, visit friends etc. It is not a dedicated track, super clean and well maintained. It is a road with normal road markings on which get slippery when wet. The riders are, in my opinion, some of the bravest men in the world!!!

Two weeks, first week practice and open to the public to race around on their own bikes. No speed limit. That is what you are seeing a lot of here. Not official racing. Second week actual racing in several classes including motor bike and sidecar. Not all at the same time. The big event is the super bikes, which what everyone waits for. This is the top notch racers and bikes. Its a time trial were they set off at 10 second intervals. 6 laps and it's all about who does it the fastest.

Something else that is impressive about these riders is that they will often compete in multiple classes in the same year, meaning they have to deal with different bike models and variations and their characteristics. This year (2023) Michael Dunlop won in four classes, on different bikes, on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Wednesday.

My top speed was 165mph (allegedly, officer), in a straight run. Hung my leathers up at age 50 yrs, due to health issues. I love the TT, it's an adrenalin rush like no other, on or off the bike.

Among those fearless men, a few years back, there was Jenny Tinmouth, a very fast lady who's best lap was 119mph. in 1966 there were the 50cc class, the 125, the 250, the 350 and the 500, went to see Agostini on the MV3 and Haylwood on the Honda4 their lap record was 108mph, the tyres were rather thin and the bikes power was only about 80hp

So Steve as an Englishman what nation of the British Isles does your bloodline come from? I’m including Ireland in that too. I’m not asking you to put your last name online just would really love to know how far you have got in tracing your ancestors. Be ye a Celt or an Anglo Saxon? Maybe you have traced to a very specific area. I had some ancestors that came to your land on the Mayflower. The records are out there to trace far back in the U.K. online now. I’d also like to know if your family has managed to maintain completely Brit or Irish blood. It sounds like you could be from the Appalachian area which at least from my understanding has managed to maintain the lineages that first came from here. At least more than most USA. Look at the origin nations of people in the USA pre and post 1965. You definitely don’t look like any dang Mexicant has snuck inta ye. But maybe some German or other Northern European. Love your videos mate. It warmed my heart to see your reaction to Fred Dibnah. Most my age aren’t aware of him and his rockin’ manly work. I’m early 30s and I’ve known of him since maybe 7. So thanks.

Also look up the bridge on the Isle of Man 🇮🇲 that people say Hi to the faerie folk. Many TT racers ask for luck and leave gifts. The bridge is near where people first come onto the island and people (although I guess many aren’t aware that this is meant to be done) say hello out their car windows to them as they go over the river on the bridge. Many who know more about the Fae stop and talk and leave gifts. People leave crystals or a silver coin for example. It’s one of many parts of these ancient islands where people take it very seriously. And they aren’t like tinkerbell or some Disney thing. Little winged happy magic people. Oooohh no. They will f**k you up if disrespect is shown to them or the area’s associated with them. Often near old stone circles and structures. Or woodland. People will loose time and have no memory of what happened to them or what they did. Or people have alien abduction type experiences and will appear in any way they wish. Also please do a video on Gef the talking mongoose from the Isle of Man 🇮🇲. Link here…. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gef A baffling incident that included well regarded paranormal investigators of the period. I’d love your take. And your take on all the Stone structures all over every part of Britain and Ireland. All older by a long shot than the great sights of Egypt like the pyramids. There’s thousands of different types of stone passage chambers and circles. And other things. But yeah. I’d love a Steve take.

There are lots of accidents every day on other parts of the island among the thousands who arrive on bikes, lots are used to riding on the other side of the road. The year I was there the road was closed almost every day because of that.

What you’ll find in these videos is that they will use footage from other road races from Ireland. Northern Ireland and Southern 100 which is another race meeting on the Isle of Man which is held on another course and just think it’s all from the TT. The TT is Held over a 2 week period. One week for practice and another for race week. Their are 4 different classes from Superbike, Superstock, Supersport, Supertwin/lightweight and then theirs the sidecars. Theirs about 9 or so races in total as they race some the classes twice in the week. NW 200 is a race meeting in Northern Ireland. One easy way to tell if it’s the TT or not is if they’re all on the road together at the same time. That will be from another road race somewhere. At the TT they start every 10 seconds. You’ll never really get anymore that 3 or 4 at the same time. And over the year’s spectator deaths from actually watching a race are very low. Just 2. Their is another race meeting held on the TT course in September called the Manx GP which is more of an amateur event. This has turned into a really long comment 😂

I never knew until recently that my dad rode this course when he was younger. He showed me a photograph of him tearing around a corner on his motorbike very similar to your first shot.. It must have been taken when either i was very young or before I was born. However, as the photo was in colour I suspect that i was very young. I have been to see the TT Race when I was early teens (i am in my 60s now), and it is both exciting and quite frightening seeing those bikes tear around very narrow streets with very sharp bends. The Isla of Man is a beautiful little island.

I grew up watching these races on tv and rode plenty of bikes as a youngster. I always thought I’d love to do it myself one day, until I went to the Kells event in Ireland. As soon as that first group of riders whizzed by me I thought fuck that, these guys are crazy! It takes a particular type of person to do what they do, they are simply a different breed of human being.

There are at least five or six other major road races each around Ireland (Munster 100, Skerries 100, Walderstown, Faugheen, etc.) and Northern Ireland (North West 200, Ulster GP, Tandragee 100, etc.). The Isle of Man TT has multiple categories for different classes of motorbikes. Seriously, apart from looking for interactions in the comment section, a two minute google will provide all of this information.

You are right some of the clips are from the NW 200. Which is in northern Ireland it would be easier for yourself to see in person and to enjoy atmosphere. As it not really limited to the amount of spectators like the TT.
